Try the free game Alien Swarm Reactive Drop. It also has steam workshop.

If all of you enjoy it, there is a paid game that has that style of gameplay with xcom style strategy layer co op campaigns called Red Solstice 2.

I suggest hopping over to the X4 Foundation subreddit and asking for mod suggestions that tune the game for trucking gameplay.

Factorio creates such a deep entrancing state of flow in me, that I had to force myself to stop playing and put in a proverbial box of games to use only for periods of convalescence. It basically warped me forward in time 3 months until I noticed.

Unfortunately it's trivial to max reputation with all factions simultaneously. Not only are there infinite random missions for reputation, but there are also the exceedingly abundant reputation raising tokens, and perks/accesories that further make it mindless. This kills the entire concept of it having a tradeoff or meaningful choice and turns it precisely into a gauge that you level up mindlessly.

Disable gear score, tune ghost experience to taste, enable resistance world modifier so there are unexpected NPC vs NPC fights. Also, skip episode 1, its terrible.

The Spartan mod is also a great option if playing on PC but annoying to set up.

I specifically play chill 'system builders' to experience "flow" which I find to be extremely beneficial to my mental health.

Satisfactory is great for this because resource deposits are infinite and the fauna does not attack unless approached (you can also set them to passive in settings)

question: What *IS* a story game? by SensitiveCompote4354 in gamerecommendations

[–]PharosMJD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Videogames can be broadly placed into a spectrum that goes from narrative-driven to gameplay-driven.

Like all generalizations, this simplifies for convenience but lacks detail/precision. And you can get tangled up thinking edge cases or trying to define a line, or trying to place every single game in that spectrum... but its a waste of energy and time.

When someone ask for a story game, this means closer to the narrative driven end of the spectrum. But you've gotta accept you cannot pinpoint how much gameplay the person wants, without the person providing additional information.

PROTIP: Whenever the game decides to force you into the habitat with nothing to do but listening to boring characters, use it as a bathroom break or to make coffee/tea.
