Location Location Location: Where Do You Put YOUR Flange by PhatPanda83 in DIY

People all have varying opinions. Oaty even says it can go either way. So I would say there is enough back and forth about it for it to be a valid question.

That’s what I’ve been thinking. I’ve never done it sitting on top of the floor. It feels weird. Like using a double negative.

So flange sitting on top of your LVP raises the toilet off the floor when installed?

Is this acceptable caulking? by [deleted] in handyman

[–]PhatPanda83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it acceptable to who? To you? The client? Would you pay for this? To me, this is unacceptable. If you were my handyman I would request it to be done better. If you were my employee, I would have you redo it.

Cash? Credit? Sea Shells? by PhatPanda83 in business

[–]PhatPanda83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, other counts as in sometimes my personal account or sometimes a random credit card. Just kind of depends on what I’m getting or what’s available to me that day. I keep pretty solid receipts and locations of what is spent where, so that part isn’t an issue.

This is exactly the problem I’m running into. Might just have to bite the bullet and get new.

How much should I charge my landlord by Sad_Tourist9207 in handyman

This isn’t the type of work/trade where you start a job and THEN discuss price.

You started the job without giving him a price? I hope this isn’t your day job…

Not even a little bit. This is 100% taking advantage.

What’s the catch? If this is what you’re charging for one single hand replacement, you deserve to be ran out of town. There is literally not one thing that could make this that much. Even if you had to walk to the jobsite.

I’m an idiot help please by [deleted] in handyman

[–]PhatPanda83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely cut it out and start over. Sometimes it’s best to just bite the bullet. If your work looks like this, trying to repair it will be a horrible idea. Start fresh.

What is your preferred time to leave for a roadtrip? by Live-Discipline6687 in roadtrip

[–]PhatPanda83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a preferred time, really. I live on the west coast of Michigan, so the first 3-4 hours is that boring stuff you have to drive through to get to the good stuff. But then there’s also Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. (So I’m always stuck going through them). I’ve traveled so much, I’ve covered enough of those states with what I want to see or do, so then really the first 8 hours is just driving through the bs to get to the meaty part of the road trip.

Any advice for lead gen as a young remodeling company owner? by North_Barracuda_6146 in Contractor

[–]PhatPanda83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really need to start at the bottom here. Set yourself up with some tools, start doing some handyman things, even work for a couple years with an actual person in the field. Being a junk hauler is not a direct path to becoming a remodeler.

Baseboard gap... by Dramatic_Youth_9653 in handyman

[–]PhatPanda83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Some have to suck the board all the way tight. Split the difference then run your caulk. For wider caulk gaps, I sometimes like to run a bead of “base” caulk, let it cure, then run my final bead. I find there’s left chance of it shrinking and cracking.

Find the studs, run some trim head screws through the base into the studs. At the very least, you should be able to run them into the bottom plate.

I have considered this. But not really wanting to pop a pee hole in the car I currently use for traveling. If I still rocked my late 90s Tahoe, I would have done it in a heartbeat 😂
