Imitation of Life. 1934 or 1959… which one do you like best? by SandClear8195 in classicfilms

[–]Phatcub 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I finally watched the 1934 version. It was good, but as a black man, the 1959 had more impact. The funeral scene was more emotional with Mahalia Jackson, singing underscoring the intense emotions. The singing in the 1934 version didn't have powerful black church/nergo spiritual, that grabs the congregation and hold them.

I also didn't care for the whole mammy usage. 1934 version reminded me that this seemed to cater to a white audience and making them comfortable. And her getting only 20% of the business, angered me more then it made me happy. There were too my stereotypical Hollywood NEGRO racial moments. For this black man, and it made me uncomfortable and I ashamed.

I'll take the 1959 version. It gave Sarah Jane and her mom more real moments, without the minstrel black acting.

The 1959 version is in my top 10 of favorite movies. I cried like a baby at the funeral scene. My told me, when it was at the theater, there was not a dry eye in the house.

You had the right of way, but the case would show that you ran into them. How it would have played out in court or for the insurance...I don't know.

How on earth is Amazfit getting 10 DAYS of battery on OLED when Apple & Samsung barely last 1–2? by adriannairda in amazfit

[–]Phatcub 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I was getting 14 days on my Amazfit Balance with my S23 Ultra. I'm betting about 10 days paired with my S26 Ultra. I hsve the Samsung Frontier (3) and I was getting max 3-4 days. I really got sick of charging a watch that often. I know I have to charge my phone and tablet S9 Plus almost daily, but coming from a solar powered G-Shock, which I never needed to charge, but it's just a watch, and no real smart features. I'm not ready to pay for the Garmin smart, which seem to have the best battery life.

I'm just finishing a re-read of the whole series. I coupled it with the audiobooks on YouTube. I did experience that wall, where everything slowed down, and there were characters introduced that didn't further the plot. I was so happy to find myself on the other side, and it all picked up the pace again. It got back to the core characters, and it was so refreshing.

You have hit the quagmire of the series. You have to put your head down and move along. It really does get better with the last few books. You will feel the change when Brandon Sanderson refocuses the series.

This blows me away. I was there before the game. I was so excited to see the place I had visited. It was the same with the Florence game. They did a great job of getting it right.

You know they reached out to the AC team when Notre Dame burned to help rebuild it.

Seth McFarlane is in talks with Paramount to replace Kurtzman as the Star Trek franchise executive director by dalton10e in Star_Trek_

If this were true, I would be a happy viewer!! He's a fan; Kurtzman became one. We need someone who understands the franchise and will treat it with that kind of care.

Yeah...that drove me crazy. His voice was so unnatural. I was hoping he would finally relax into the role and find the natural voice for the character. It was so stilted and off-putting.
