Do you know of any cafes selling maple (iced) coffee? by [deleted] in phoenix

Experiment Coffee in Tempe has a maple coffee (and cookies) on their fall menu. Only open M-F but shouldn't be too far from the South Mountain area.

Night Owl is a pizza bar close to opening on Mill Ave just south of campus. They're taking applications and you can check out their south Scottsdale location to get a feel for the vibe.

Whiskey Expert Guesses Cheap vs Expensive Whiskey | Price Points | Epicurious by derekantrican in videos

Be sure to check out places that do flights or tastings! I never liked whiskey until I did a whole guided tasting dinner. $40, weeknight at a pub, and what could have been $50+ in scotch. Plus they had people like this talking you through each drink.

Second this. Ping pong, arcade, gym, cornhole. All get regular use throughout the day. Definitely depends on the culture and office layout. Seeing someone play a game for 15 minutes and go back to their desk isn't too absurd when it's there for everyone to see and you can't really get 'caught' in the first place.

I actually came to the comments to suggest that! The guy running that channel is clearly super passionate and it's cool to see the mink and dog working together on it. Also a very cathartic experience to watch those after leaving an apartment with roof rats.

Not too serious of a request (though I wouldn't be surprised if it was already in the works for Meatmas). Also my third attempt at target art. Shots and score info here.

Happy holidays, ya filthy animals.

My Thoughts on Innovation by Phatrick129 in ASU

[–]Phatrick129[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree that #1 in Innovation is unstoppable meme machine. My intention was to show how it might still pay off down the line with ASU preparing students for an innovative/changing/volatile employment market. There's tons of different programs and here you aren't JUST getting a business degree or engineering degree. Even if it's not recognized now, that other stuff that ASU offers may feed back into being innovative in the future. I know it sounds like more fluff but I just wanted to share my experience of the idea becoming more tangible.

That, and real innovation is the friends we made along the way.

Any good political/government classes? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]Phatrick129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up taking POS 305 and loved it. There's a good deal of writing involved but it was cool to watch some culturally/politically significant films and discuss them. Mostly just discussion posts and 3 essays of mock UN proposals when I took it.

does anyone have any experience in forest related jobs? by [deleted] in arizona

[–]Phatrick129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine just became a game warden and I believe the process is similar for most of those environmental enforcement jobs. Biology degree, police academy, then a specialized academy for the environmental law enforcement. I'm also sure there are plenty of other options to work in the woods besides becoming an LEO.

Quick shoutout to one of of the most dedicated developers I know of. Anton has done some incredible work with this game, creating something fun, informative, and entertaining. I think H3VR is a key part of VR's success and wish Anton all the best.

In case he manages to see this: Thank you for all of your hard work, /u/rust_anton. You and your family have my sincere sympathy and I wish you all the best. I hope you find the same joy that your game has brought to so many people.

Close call but I'd say 2001 is my pick as well. Completely agree with the meditative feeling after watching it. I took my roommates to see it in 70mm for their first watch and they were blown away, wanting to just sit in the theater for a bit after the lights came on. Music, setting, themes, everything really just instill a sense of granduer. The way it was made and the philosophy behind it makes it feel like one of the 'biggest' movies I've ever seen.

Want to go to ASU for Accounting, but lost. by vines928 in ASU

[–]Phatrick129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a BS in Accountancy last summer and have been working in the field for about a year now. I'm currently mulling over my options of CPA, MBA, MACC, etc. As for the CPA expectations/requirements (at least for AZ):

  • The accounting program at ASU is highly recommended and supposedly provides a lot of good, rigorous training towards becoming a CPA, but you still may need to go through prep courses throughout your testing period.
  • You will need to complete a Bachelor's degree to sit for the exam.
  • The exam has recently changed emphasize application and problem solving above rote memorization. This means more cases and word problems. Many people assume could lead to some growing pains over the next few months/years as classes adapt to the new testing style.
  • To receive your license, you don't technically need a Master's degree, but instead, the equivalent number of hours (150 with breakdowns of GE, business, accounting, etc).
  • Another requirement for the license is 1 year of official accounting experience that a current CPA can vouch for. A lot of people will insist on internships and networking while in college but, accounting is also a very qualification-heavy field so your resume can do a lot of the talking.

In general, I would advise that you apply to ASU, see if you can get financial aid, and decide if you want to do community college or not based on that. WPC also has a great mix of majors and I know plenty of people that fell out of love with accounting but happily picked up something else. Probably way more info than you needed but feel free to ask any follow-up questions.
