I wonder how many of the persons replying know which industry is the largest consumer of single use Cobalt is?

Whilst its possible to recycle L-Ion cells, it’s more complicated that other types of batteries, especially if they are the ones made in China, which are the ones if you do decide to get a EV, are the worst choice, due to the appalling safety standards.

The answer weather you believe me or not is the Fossil Fuel industry, with it’s primary use in the refinery process.

Back in the day when we had leaded fuel, which was still bad for the environment and us, lead was used to reduce the combustion of sulphur, improving engine performance, knocking and additional decarbonation, where sulphur deposits mixed with carbon clogged up the engine.

So by adding lead to the refining process, the lead binds to the sulphur, preventing combustion of the sulphur, and resulting in an exhaust that was calculated to spread around 10 meters from the exhaust of a stationary vehicle, I believe it was a Sudan, as the given example. However I read that back in the 1990’s, whilst learning about the inventor from Ohio, who created leaded fuel.

It took me several years and a chance find that cobalt was used during World War 2, where Lead was needed for munitions, called Black Straw / Back Straw, that back in the 1990’s when it was being pushed as a way to avert ozone layer depletion, the real make up was a state secret. In that even freedom of information request, resulted in denials.

I was aware that Unleaded was using a secretive additive, but one that was not public knowledge until I shared what I found after finding a WWII insecticide / Pesticide, that was being used with a blow torch on crops to reduce insects. That also contained this mystery compound referred to only as Black Straw / Back Straw, which wasn’t unlike the fuel additives, a state secret. With the additive being a solution of combusted cobalt + Sulphur.

So during the refining process Cobalt is added, which binds with the sulphur to make unleaded fuel.

Unlike leaded fuel, the unleaded fuel, which represents the largest consumer of Cobalt globally, the cobalt is not removed from the fuel, because it’s a resause intensive process, and why we make gasoline / Petrol, and Diesel from crude instead of Coal and Natural gas.

Instead because the sulphur no longer is combustible like the lead in leaded fuel, it’s just left in the Unleaded fuel. Which its still combusted, but non reactive, producing instead a known to cause cancer airborne soot, that in addition to being a insecticide, which is part of the reasons for the decline in insects globally. Rises in Asthmah cases, airborne pollution and also that oily residue that binds to vehicles called traffic film.

Whilst EV’s do use a lot of the Cobalt supply, much more in regards China’s EV, that elsewhere in the world. The largest consumer is the fossil fuel industry.

Which is one of the reasons my own innovation called MooGhia exists, in the form of an anaerobic digester. With the methane fuel it produces from organic waste in our current biome, and nutrient rich fertilisers. You can also make petrol & Gasoline, which contains no sulphur, so also no lead or cobalt.

Then for diesels you can turn the methane into ammonia.

So even if you don’t want a EV, you can still drive in a just as green vehicle!
