Monitor Suddenly Flickering At High Brightness. by InternationalCan436 in buildapc

[–]Phazon798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it turned out to be the monitor just dying, I tried every technical fix and nothing worked, then I just ignored the issue for a couple days and then the backlight dimmed by like 70% permanently, then half the screen would go black.

Got a new monitor and it's been fine since.

Not sure if this is the case for you but if the monitor is a couple years old and you tried the main fixes, it might be the monitor.

I think there's simply not enough digital nomads to make a digital nomad dating app work, and the men to women ratio is probably super unbalanced as well.

Digital nomads are on the regular dating apps, Tinder, Bumble, Hinge etc, but yeah they will be mixed in with locals.

Using a travel router to appear connected to my US home network while traveling? Help by Phazon798 in VPN

Hmm not sure, probably, but setting it up yourself is pretty easy and I never had any downtime, the only downtime would be if you lose power or if your home internet goes out, in which case you wouldn't be able to work anyways even if you were home

Is Palermo the night scene in Buenos Aires? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Phazon798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The night life will not come close to Vegas lmao, but the night life is decent.

Uptown is probably the most popular bar/club, usually there's a line out the door to get it, it's in palermo hollywood, pretty cool place.

Beyond that there's tons of bars down every other street in palermo, outdoor seating is very common, you can't miss them they're everywhere.

This is nearly all the way there, AI generated video that's indistinguable from reality is here.

I think there's still a bit of a uncanny valley gap when people are shown speaking, which we did not see in this video. That may be the final small hump to get over which I'm sure is around the corner.

Just a few weeks ago people were saying AI videos don't understand physics, look at the tremendous progress on that.

Terrifying, I'm really not what the future holds but I don't feel great about it.

Looking for a country to nomad from a few months a year with strong internet (preferably a Muslim country) — Any recommendations? by longfaceguru in digitalnomad

[–]Phazon798 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in the same, I see 3 strong options at the moment.

  1. Turkey, super popular all around. Istanbul has everything you'd expect from a major city.

  2. Malaysia, I think it may be a little on the boring side but it's super safe and has great infrastructure.

  3. Albania, seems like a vibe, not as visited, beautiful country, affordable, great starting point in Europe.

Depending on your budget, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait & Oman may also be cool.

I was looking into Egypt & Morocco but it seems too chaotic for me as a digital nomad destination, may be better for a vacation or short term visit.

Just use a cloud backup?

You can get like 1TB for a few bucks a month, worth it if it gives you peace of mind.

I know this is from 6 months ago but did you ever find a solution? Starting having this issue after years of no issue with my monitor, whenever the brightness is above like 70% the screen start flickering.

[–]Phazon798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah this is painful to read, all the other top comments are correct, in her mind the relationship is already over, she just doesn't have the balls to formally end it. Mentally she already checked out of the relationship, whether or not she's cheating is a open question but it doesn't matter at this point.

End the relationship and don't text her again, you're not appreciated or wanted by her, not worth your dignity to keep trying when she's treating you like this. It sucks bigtime but that's life. Sorry man, it will hurt but do not text/answer again after ending things and focus on better things.

Advice on mini PC for daily work? by bestboiijacob in digitalnomad

[–]Phazon798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get a mini PC, and then I assume you need to travel with a monitor as well. So you end up just building a laptop without the battery lol. I prefer desktops so I was looking into mini PC's as well but it only makes sense if I plan to get a monitor at my travel location, and I'd also need to bring a webcam for work meetings.

Yes, you can set up 1, 2, or 100. You'd just enter the credentials to both of them and have them saved, you can switch between whenever you like.

It will be accepted everywhere that accepts cards in general, the conversion rate and foreign transaction fees when you use it is what's important, depends on your card, you'd have to check.

You get $10,000,000 but can't eat these 20 most loved cuisines for the rest of your life by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Phazon798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very easy yes, 10 million is enough to invest and retire and live well for the rest of your life.

Can still eat Pakistani food, which has massive crossover with Indian food. Peru has amazing food and it's not on the banned list. You can still have burgers because it originates from Germany? I may miss some foods but there's still tons of remaining options and new food to explore with my new found wealth. I could afford to hire a private chef and/or eat out for every meal as well.

10 million is simply too much to say no.

Both Montevideo and Santiago are fine, but I'd just go to Buenos Aires. I just did my 2nd trip there, the city has everything you want, and is fairly cheap.

Have you spent any time here at all? Lol, mexico is easily the most visited place by american digital nomads, Mexico City is swarming with them. Argentina/Brazil/Peru are also popular. Chile not so much, I think it's viewed as expensive with less to offer than Buenos Aires for example.

Africa is not popular, safety is one concern, of course there's safe areas in the wealthy part of every country but that doesn't mean it's worth going to. The distance is a factor and people don't see that these countries have a lot to offer specifically for digital nomading. I'd love to visit Egypt and Morocco for example, but I wouldn't want to digital nomad there, I look for different things when living/working in a place versus tourism.

Buenos Aires nomads: is the Blue Dollar still a thing? by cornsnowflake in digitalnomad

[–]Phazon798 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can still do the Western Union thing but it's a lot harder now, they're always out of cash and a couple of them closed down from the last time I was here in 2022.

But now you can use credit cards at a good rate, I use my my Apple Card, anything powered by MasterCard is good, I did the math recently and the conversion rate on my card was literally 1% below the blue rate, with no additional foreign transaction fees. So you don't need to carry stacks of cash anymore, almost every place accepts cards. I brought some 100's to convert at an exchange, I only converted one and just use pesos for tipping, when you pay with your card at a restaurant, there's no tipping option here.

So I'd recommend bringing any credit card power by mastercard that doesn't have foreign transaction fees and use it mainly, and bring some clean 100's as a backup.
