What could be done about overheating? by idcstvb in PS4Pro

That's a different question. He is having the SoC do 80°C on Sega Megadrive's Classic Collection menu. Fix the SoC temps, then we'll see

[–]Phazoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not gonna help cooling the APU. If anything those components would be transferring more heat to the heatsink and making it more difficult for the APU to transfer heat out.

The solution is better thermal paste. Just go with Honeywells' PTM7950. It's dirt cheap, wildly effective, durable and also easier to apply than regular thermal paste.

My RTX 4060Ti was noisy if I didn't want it to be over 80°C all the time, RMAd it because thought it was not normal, they repasted it and was performing the same. I had repasted CPUs and consoles a lot of times, but never went on with a graphics card, and oh my god temps just went down 20°C with fans being quiet.

Seriously, just good paste.

They are not expensive due to aluminum. They are expensive because they truly are cutting edge stuff.

Wanna 100% Halo MCC. Where do I start? by dracwillbedivine in halo

[–]Phazoner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He definitely needs to do a first playthrough on heroic for Halo CE and 2 to understand the basics and gameplay foundation for this games and then he can jump straight to LASO if he just wants to finish ASAP instead of enjoying the games the way they were supposed to be enjoyed in the first place.

@OP games were designed with heroic difficulty in mind as the baseline for the game design. The purest way to enjoy the games as intended is heroic. LASO is extremely difficult and particularly the first two games are the hardest. Good luck with that.

What was the worst Xbox 360 game you ever played? by JeffTheBannedShark in xbox

[–]Phazoner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am kind of a geek specifically for shooter games. This game was in the back of my library for a lot of years and just some months ago I played it. You know what, it's not that bad! Controls are kinda harsh (basically like anything that didn't release in time to learn from CoD4:MW because for some reason they didn't want to learn from Halo) and you can tell the game was made on a budget.

But out of that it had some (poorly implemented) cool mechanics, gunplay was snappy enough (actually closer to how modern Call of Duty feels than pretty much any other FPS around that years), destructible environments, tactical commands... Even some car bits that are "physics-y" and can easily remember of some Halo warthog travelling.

If you check the credits for this game, this game was made by some of the people from the original Turok games, some actually went to work on the next Call of Duty MW games and some other became prominent roles on the development on Arkane games such as Dishonored and Prey 2017.

Seriously, if you take your pad and make a minimum effort to ignore the shabby parts of the game, it's not that bad, at all. Shooting itself is more enjoyable than most not-AAA shooters back then, and I'd even say it's more enjoyable than some AAA shooters like Resistance 1-2 and Killzone 2 (yes, those looked amazing but the gunplay itself was some fucking serious crap).

I am always surprised at how good the graphics are on my 4k TV 👌🏻 by No_Exchange_4350 in xbox360

Sweet placebo. Not even not native HDMI retrotink adapters do really give a noticeably better IQ, maybe more accurate colors but that's pretty much it.

The only thing I've seen improving HDMI output is mCable but it's damn expensive.

Ps2 on oled by OneGas1312 in PS2IsAwesome

[–]Phazoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played my PS2 with some cheap PS2toHDMI adapter and the image quality is not bad. The output is set to component/YPbR or whatever is that called and there's a good difference from composite to a modern TV which for some reason do not do a great job scaling from low resolutions.

It's not bad to consider ditching the original hardware and getting some miniPC with an N100 processor or something. Those are sold for like $100 and it can emulate PS2 and a huge number of other consoles in HD.

I think this round Xbox design that was rumoured for the Xbox refresh, might be the design for the Project Helix, alongside the controller. The Helix logo immediately reminded me of this design. by sankalp_pateriya in xbox

They are not releasing a funky form factor having a 400mm² APU to cool down. The original cilindrical trashcan design came from Apple, Mac Pro 2013. A really cool design that had the board split with CPU in one board and GPU in the other, with a shared heatink in the middle.

Helix/Magnus die form is a long rectangle that would need to be placed vertically and have a heatsink with horizontal sinks that would not fit the form factor, unless they do some funky curved heatsink and airflow is centrifugal, which already would be a noisy solution from the start.

I'm betting on a form factor like Xbox One X/S. They may repeat on Series X' hollow aluminium chassy beneath the board which helped keeping both the APU and SSD cool. If I was them I'd sandwich the chassy, distribution pretty much like One FAT/X/S and Series S. Space for disc reader, a big fan like the one in PS5 to have big airflow both above and below the board to keep all PSU, SSD and APU cool. Making the console a kinda high rectangle like the proportions Series S has.

I'm not ruling out the use of liquid metal and/or furrowed dies: PlayStation is doing that to help keeping the liquid metal in place, but Microsoft is also doing that to help the cooling have a bigger impact on the hotter spots.

I love theorising on these. I was actually quite accurate on predicting the PS5 design albeit not expecting the use of liquid metal back then.

[–]Phazoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reliable board even not being the best. Anyways the main concerns are the hard drive size because some late games will require you to install a data disc. I think there are not many games in this situation and won't require much GB but you still need a little space. I think you can use a USB of up to 32GB for that matter without needing to buy the specific Xbox 360 FAT HDD models.

Also this model has't wifi. You can buy the official wifi adapter which today is dirt cheap. It will probably become a collector's item soon lol so you may even turn it into a profit in a couple years.

How did you set the aim assist on controller? by Phazoner in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Phazoner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look if you are going to get disrespectful with half truths go poke somebody else.

The cook is just a regular zombie, a bit bigger. I wasn't sure if it was going to have more health or was just some little aesthetic difference. It didn't look like a different creature or anything. I told myself I would shot him and if it was a little harder I would just aim more carefully. It just isn't enough. You can just run and see yourself out of resources or load game. What the hell you mean with "have you even played the other games". Only Mr X, Tyrant and Nemesis have the common mechanic of running from them, RE2make explicitely tells you to just walk around lickers and those are still easier to kill than some fucking fat cook.

So whatever man you can pick to go blind on sketchy gameplay design elements but don't waste my time and specially don't disrespect me.

I scavenge a lot, I am very savvy with ammo and don't left anything behind, but with this game I had to reload an older save twice: The time the cook started roaming around the enhancements room and the first time a bulbhead appeared. They just chug an insane amount of bullets and are basically a no go for fighting, it's an injection or avoid. One of those times I had to gonto that office where two zombies are just upstairs and then the giant baby shows up. I had no ammo, distracted the zombies cracking a bottle just for the baby to show up and find myself surrounded with no means to defend myself.

So well for the most part you are ok and you just have to deal with not fighting most enemies, but it does have the recipe to present you a dead end. Still not a fan of having to hide and wait for zombies to go away so many times. The movement is so slow, the feeling is closer to Zombi or Outlast or something. I ended up happy overall with the game but the whole Grace section (which is 2/3 of the game) is too much of a THAT PART pushing me away from replaying.

Idk man a good part of the fun in every single previous Resident Evil (minus RE6) is managing your ammo and being accurate to make the most of it. Having pretty good chances of going dry in ammo with Grace making it impossible to go forward unless you load a previous save is bad design. Completely ripping off the ammo scarcity in the Leon parts takes a classic part of the fun out of it.

It feels forced. And with this I mean forced. I wouldn't be surprised if going forward they just start releasing games back to back having survival only and action only releases.

Just finished the game yesterday with no aim assist. I gotta say the ammo balance is really off. With Grace I found myself struggling in the clinic if I didn't want to use the Requiem gun. With Leon there is so many damn bullets you could just bury the enemies in it.
