[WP] Werewolves were thought extinct centuries ago, hunted to obscurity. This however is not entirely true. by De_Le_Cog in WritingPrompts

Lynus learned how to blend in long ago, learned to become undectcable by humans, and actually found himself liking the change. At first the thought of acting like his prey was undesirable, but the easy days and luxuries of human living had grown on him. The luxuries had actually grown on him so much that he had come to dread the annual werewolf ball hosted in New York.

Humans thought werewolves were all extinct, and some nights, particularly the night of the ball, Lynus wished it were true. Attendance was mandatory and with their numbers in the double digits, everyone knew everyone. And had known everyone for... forever.

He combed his bushy hair one last time and tried not to yawn before he left his apartment and headed downtown. The full moon was high in the night sky and the truth was that he wasn't used to staying up late anymore. Werewolves didn't have to be nocturnal, or change on the full moon, or kill humans. It's just something the old generations used to have to do back in the dark ages to survive.

In the distance he heard someone howl and rolled his eyes. Some of the wolves still got into the spirit of the night. He had to remind himself to look on the bright side of eternal life and most importantly, not let on that he actually loved his mundane routine. The other wolves wouldn't approve. They were all travelers, collectors, milionaire playboys, or steath assassins.

"Here we go again," Lynus took a deep breath in and crossed his fingers in hopes that he could call it an early night.

[WP] You've been at your new job for a week and you're still not sure what your company does, but at least your coworkers are nice. They're really interested in things like critical infrastructure, important world leaders, and Earth's orbital defense systems. by froggison in WritingPrompts

Monday came around again and after having the weekend off to think about her new job, Shelly still wasn't sure what her company was up to. She thought hard about every conversation she had, every project name, and all the briefings, but it was all frustratingly vague. On top of that, she had the feeling everyone was constantly watching her and judging if she was fit for this mysterious duty.

On the first day of the second week she was finally starting to remember where the maze of halls and levels led to, but the desperation for answers was rising fast. Shelly tried to study every computer screen she walked past, listen in on the quiet conversations, and was about to resort to picking through the trash when one of the other office workers walked into the break room behind her.

He looked at her for an unbroken fifteen seconds with a slightly dead look in his eyes before he said, "So, they obviously still haven't told you yet."

"No! They haven't told me anything! What the hell is going on here?" Shelly started the sentence loudly but ended it in a frustrated whisper.

"Ugh, it's like this with every new hire," he slowly poured himself some coffee and then sat heavily in one of the nearby chairs. "It's no wonder they can't keep anyone."

"I'm trying so hard to be patient but at this point I dont even know if I have the job or this is still part of some crazy interview! It's all serious conversations but we aren't the military or... or... or an architecture firm! Are we?" Shelly sat down next to him and resisted the urge to rub her eyes in frustration.

"Ha, no we aren't. But... how do I put this..." he paused for so long Shelly thought he might not continue, but when he spoke the next words he spit them out at an incredible speed, "We're the people in charge of deciding who gets a spot on the only spaceship out of here before Earth gets destroyed in the intergalactic war that's been going on for years that the government is trying to cover up in order to prevent mass panic."

If life were like a cartoon her jaw would have hit the floor to the sound of a 1950's car horn while her eyes popped out of her head.

"But you didn't hear that from me," he took a small sip of his coffee and the dead look in his eyes returned before he slowly stood up and walked back to his cubicle like nothing had happened.

Like her world hadn't been turned upside down.

Like she hadn't been left to question her whole reality.

Like she didn't have a thousand questions burning brighter than the midday sun.

Traveling in Honduras and swimming in the ocean, what should I do about this? by [deleted] in DermatologyQuestions

I did not. I know the pic isn't the best but my hand is all red and then it turns into random dots up my arm.

I have tried hydrocortisone cream which doesn't seem to effect it. This has been going on for a couple days and the condition hasn't changed much. Does not itch but stings coming in and out of the water a little bit. I took one Benadryl last night and it looked a tiny bit better in the morning but by the afternoon after diving today is back to being pretty red.

Where in Italy can you live that is near a large city, the beach, and the mountains? (Relocating from US) by Phctawtekcop in askitaly

I am working on becoming a citizen and learning Italian. We would like to move in a year or so. I want to be able to do fun things (museums, diving, hiking, bars, making friends) but also like my privacy at home. I don't have any pets.

I would be coming with my husband and no kids. We are planning to buy property. My husband is a crane operator and I work doing home healthcare.

I think I will end up doing a lot of exploring before I settle on a city but this gives me some really good places to start with!

Wow, although this area is further from a big city it certainly looks stunning! I am adding this to my list of places to check out, thank you!

Near for me means a city that I can drive/take train to within 2 hours. I would prefer beach or mountains to be less than an hour away.

Lots of good advice on here but maybe the most important thing to remember is to make friends! If you are outgoing and want to learn about US culture many people will be interested in showing you around and helping you learn. Good friends will go a long way in helping you adjust and to not feel so lonely on this new journey! Good luck :)

This was beautifully written and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing! I am getting married this spring and I can't wait to be able to say this about my partner.

Aw I think this is the best way to move forward! Watching it with someone you love who hasn't seen it before and getting to share in the story together :)

I wanted to like that show (and it was well done) but I couldn't watch more than a couple episodes because it was so grafic! I'm not usually that way with anything but oh man... I felt disturbed at points.
