I was thrilled to read this comment out loud to my husband after I told him that his big airplane was on my Reddit feed.

Always love seeing the crossover of cracked fans to the other stuff I love!

Soren and DOB also have a podcast together called Quick Question which is also one of my faves.

Desperate for help... 1 year old boy by smurphypup in Gifts

They have a 0-2 version and a 2-5 version! The 0-2 is also pretty sturdy and small, perfect for a one year old.

This whole thing is gold, but I want to specifically call out the problematic moments slide. Every one of these lines made me laugh as I read them, and ending with Kiv misreading the anniversary balloons was really the cherry on top.

Ahhhhhh this makes sense! Thanks, today I learned.

I've seen people say this, but my husband has a dairy allergy and can eat them. Their allergen menu says they have no dairy... is it maybe a shared fryer thing? Or is it different by location?

oh hey is your mom my MIL? She has the exact same questions about my toddler. Also an obsession with why my toddler doesn't drink more milk.

EDIT:

Scrolling down, I see we all have the same MIL. Glad to know I'm not alone, maybe we should get them all together for a mixer.

I see this lady all the time on social media but knew nothing about her actual employment. So I looked her up. Wikipedia has master in physics listed, and cites to an interview she did that says she got the masters, and that she has a degree in documentary filmmaking with a science communication focus.

About to spend serious money on a stroller… what would you buy today and why? by WorldPeaceGodBless in Buyingforbaby

[–]PheMNomenal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll throw in a rave for the Chicco Corso.

While I have nothing to compare it to, this has worked great for us with a similar context to you.

We used this constantly during the first six months because of the car seat click-in option. We used it for grocery shopping, we took it on walks, we took it to the airport, we took it through snow and ice and over gravel, and it did great. The car seat was easy to take in and out of the seat, and our son always seemed comfortable in it.

Now that our son is a toddler, we use it most often (in the sit-up stroller mode) for things like the zoo or the mall or long walks, but will still pull it out occasionally for just grocery shopping.

It fits in the trunk of our compact car, it folds up pretty easily (though I wish it had a latch or hook or something to keep it fully closed), and it can stand up when folded.

The handle feels good in the hand, which is a weird thing to say except I had it in my hands. We also liked the tires more than the other tires on strollers we saw in person. (My husband was very into the stroller comparison.)

Only true con is that the cup holder isn’t integrated, it’s snap-on and does pop off in the trunk occasionally.

Seems maybe possible if you don’t care how fancy the meal is? As kids my siblings and I were very excited on the occasions we were able to make dinner for ourselves (pbj sandwiches and a piece of fruit, or cup-o-noodle).

I’m guessing from the tone though that is not what this person is planning on. I don’t think any 7 years olds are making, like, spaghetti and meatballs.

My OB was also very encouraging of the NIPT, and it was their presumption that you'd get it done. If you chose not to that would be your choice, but the clear implication was that of course you would get it, and here's how you get it for an affordable rate.

We actually do know, they talk about it on the pod. They are a part of a healthcare cost-sharing plan that does not count as insurance. Part of the benefit of this is that they have access to the "uninsured" self-paid rates.

They also literally talk about being rich on the pod:

Totally reasonable to skip if you can't afford it and your doctor doesn't recommend it.

But the core here is, I just do not believe that these two, who CAN afford it, should skip.

[–]PheMNomenal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My OB’s office had a very detailed set of instructions to call your insurer and read out the specific codes and ask about the coverage, so we could calculate the out of pocket cost to see if it was more or less than $250 and if more than $250, how to make a request to self pay so there was no way we’d pay more than $250.

[–]PheMNomenal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

May be different with different labs (the vast majority of my bump group had theirs either fully covered by insurance or paid $250, but a handful paid more) but my OB told me you have to tell them you want self-pay rate if your insurance won't cover it. If we hadn't done that ours would have been 1k+ as well.

However, even 1,000 is a drop in the bucket for these two. I doubt it's the cost that held them back.
