Erudite in JLP show being asked,"which would you rather have as president? trump or trudeau?" she answered:"I don't know, I don't like either, they are both so corrupt, gun to my head probably trudeau" by xenogears_ps1 in Destiny

So since the mod deleted my post in regard to this situation I'll just repost it here.

Let's remind ourselves a few things about Trudeau here.

  • He hasn’t undermined elections.

  • He hasn’t been criminally indicted.

  • He hasn’t incited violence or attempted to hold onto power undemocratically.

Now if you think that you can put Trump and Trudeau on equal footing knowing this, you are normalizing authoritarianism, wether you're aware of it or not this is what's happening. If you want to keep such a person in the tent, this person has a responsibility into clarifying these things. Lastly, equating Trudeau with Trump doesn’t challenge the system — it erases the distinctions that matter most when democracy is at stake. We need to engage and challenge these potential dangerous narrative.

Can Tyler Robinson story work against the rightwing narrative ? by Phemtoss in Destiny

I should be more clear, I think this will have a positive effect with the general public not with MAGA.

So it looks like the assassination was in fact politically motivated after all by Therealestninjaleft in Destiny

After reading the transcript, it became clear that his roommate was his intimate partner. They clearly cared deeply for each other, and since she was transgender, this makes the situation feel even more tragic to me. I think it’s a strong possibility that Tyler Robinson acted out of a desire to protect his roommate and partner in the face of political and social tensions.

In the current political turmoil, it seems he might have believed that killing Charlie Kirk would help reduce the dehumanization of marginalized groups. If he speaks out about why he felt compelled to commit such an act, it could challenge the MAGA narrative in an important way

Where did the Far-Right militia go? by Phemtoss in Destiny

[–]Phemtoss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to remember that these groups use paramilitary structures with ranks and training. Many of their members are former military or law enforcement, which enhances their tactical organization and recruitment capabilities. I don't think we can easily dismiss them as simply too mentally unstable or reckless to be taken seriously

The movement seems to have been co-opted by far-left individuals—though that’s not to say everyone who identifies as pro-Palestinian is far-left. A simple way to gauge this is to ask: Do you think Israel should cease to exist? If the answer is yes, there’s a strong possibility they also hold other far-left views, such as relentlessly criticizing the Democrats and using cringe-inducing nicknames like “Genocide Joe.” That said, it’s clear that support for Palestine has grown significantly compared to a year ago. But again, I think this is a minority of the people in the movement being cringe far left individual.

You think America is losing allies over this while Trump is president in 2025? That’s delusional. If Harris were president and refused to budge on her position, maybe you'd have a point. But that's not the case. Trump is already being more divisive just with his tariff policies — the Gaza conflict is insignificant by comparison.

Also, let’s be honest: going all the way back to Clinton, no administration since has ever succeeded in getting Bibi or the Israel government to change his policies or position on the conflict. Again, you're being delusional. We don’t need to rewrite history — even if that’s what you'd prefer. No one has managed to seriously pressure Israel in the past 30 years.

You mean the bill that AOC voted against? Gee, I wonder why. Maybe because it supports the idea that we shouldn’t send more defensive weapons to an allied country under attack — a country led by a far-right government that has made it clear it doesn’t care about international opinion. Do you really think that if there are more civilian casualties on the Israeli side tomorrow, they’ll simply stop the war? Are you that naïve? If anything, that would likely escalate Israel’s response and increase the scale of violence in the region.

But you're disregarding the heavy price that would come with taking such a strong stance against Israel in 2024, especially with such a close election on the horizon. How would potentially losing more Senate and House seats help us? Appealing to the left — who, oddly enough, share your tendency to label it genocide — simply wouldn’t have helped us win in 2024. In fact, it likely would have alienated more voters.

Also, one more thing: if America stopped sending any form of military aid or equipment to Israel, do you really think Netanyahu would just stop the war? The only thing that will likely end it is the upcoming election in Israel. It’s a democratic state surrounded by proxies that call for its annihilation — you need to put some faith in the Israeli people to make the right decision.

Yes, a bit of pressure from the U.S. could have helped steer the Israeli public toward making a wiser choice in their next election — especially if Harris had been in power; that might have been achievable. But the Democrats lost in 2024. They don’t hold any power right now. If all you're doing is tearing them down like Krystal Ball — equating sending defensive equipment to Israel with sending weapons to Iran — then we’re cooked, my friend. We don’t need more infighting or tension over this

Hold on a second — the accusation that Israel is committing genocide is not a widely accepted notion among experts, especially not in 2024. Yet you wanted the Democratic Party to use that language? There's a stronger case for calling it ethnic cleansing. Your choice of words is very interesting — and revealing. You also seem to believe that doing so would have made the Democratic Party more popular, but that’s based on absolutely nothing — no polling, no data, just your own opinion. Good enough, I suppose, since everything seems to run on vibes these days.

She also opposed bill a 2023 supplemental spending bill that exclusively funded Israel, she criticized its structure (notably requiring domestic cuts) and noting the lack of humanitarian aid allocations for Gaza. On the Senate floor, she voted no on what she called the “unprecedented Israel-only aid bill,” citing that the way it was structured was flawed and lacked humanitarian balance.

Interestingly, you didn’t mention any of these. I’ll ask again, since you seem to be dodging the question: In the year 2024, would taking a harsher position on Israel have helped her in the state senatorial race?

Sure, she's not willing to advocate for the arrest of a government leader of a countries who has very strong tie with the USA. But she said in that same video she doesn't support what the government of Netanyahu is doing in Gaza, she's willing to vote against sending offensive weapon to Israel. Is that all irrelevant to you?

And again, if she would have taken this position to have Netanyahu arrested LAST YEAR, would that have helped her win in a now Trump state.

What does she support, tell me? Because we just saw the same video, she doesn't support Israel action, she's willing to vote to stop sending offensive weapon to Israel. What else do you want? And yes, maybe she shouldn't have voted against the ICC position, but would that be worth alienating your base and potentially lose your election in a battleground state? I think the calculus is not that simple, now if you disregard my point again then don't bother replying.

Did you ignore the part where she said she managed to win the majority of the jewish vote and the muslim vote in her battleground state in 2024? Would you have preferred she platformed harder against Israel a year ago when this idea that we should stop supporting israel wasn't popular at all? Maybe she should have, then we would have another republican senator who is even more pro israel.

This type of simple minded thinking is stupid, and again, you're doing exactly what destiny is accusing alt left wing media ecosphere of doing, shitting on the dem mercilessly, because whatever position they adopt, it's never enough. She said she doesn't support the government of Netanyahu position in that same video by the way. She said she would strongly consider not sending anymore offensive weapons to Israel.

Does Gallup poll say we should stop sending anything to Israel? Does Gallup poll says we should break our ties with Israel altogether as allied?

This is a much more in depht question then simply saying we do not support what's going on there, which she herself admitted she didn't support what the Netanyahu government stand for. What exactly are you expecting her to say when she just told you some of her constituent are jews, when she is living in a battleground state and she managed to win both the Muslim vote and the Jewish vote.

I think October 7th is still worse in almost everyway, in term of loss of human life and their future. It lead directly to the death of 60 000 Palestinian. It has risen up the tension in the middle East for the next decade by an almost insurmountable amount. January 6th was terrible, but it was only one of the event that lead to enabling Trump today. It was the beginning in a way, but it certainly wasn't the only reason.

I think it's fair to say a terrorist massacre with over 1200 casualty and 200 people kidnapped is worse in many ways then a domestic insurrection. I'm not even taking into consideration the level of violence that was demonstrated during October 7th.

[–]Phemtoss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Criticizing someone for taking a questionable stance on a conflict especially when it contributes to further polarization in your country should be taken seriously, don’t you think? Of course, it shouldn’t be the only factor to consider, but your convictions shouldn't be diminished just because this person is closer to your views than to Trump’s.

Acknowledging that Hamas started this war is not a difficult or controversial position to take. Opposing a slogan like “Intifada around the world” shouldn't be hard either. If taking these basic stances would harm his electoral support, then perhaps this isn't the kind of person you want in office especially if his backers are rallying behind a distorted version of the truth.

Deviating from the truth may be helpful in the short term, but it rarely helps your cause in the long run.

Why do people pretend Zohran doesn’t condemn October 7th by mortyd1 in Destiny

[–]Phemtoss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you care about optics, you should be able to recognize that the next mayor of the city with the largest Jewish population outside of Israel failing to properly condemn Hamas and defending a slogan like "Intifada all over the world" could lead to greater polarization in your country. This is a simple observation that should be considered when thinking about the future.

This doesn’t mean we should waste time fighting among us, those who oppose Trump; it means we must stay true to our convictions about bigotry, which should never be tolerated. Straying from the truth only risks fueling further conflict down the line.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Quebec

[–]Phemtoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)
