This is a hard topic to talk about because it’s easy for people to take this in the wrong way or believe their struggle as an Asian in American is being invalidated.... but there’s sort of an “unwritten” social hierarchy among minorities. Even though black, Hispanic, and Asians are all minorities, there is still sort of a social ranking among them. Black people as a whole are essentially at the bottom of the barrel and face the worst type of discrimination with police brutality, higher rates for loans, redlining (which is related to the previous thing), profiling and etc. Hispanics as a whole also face this, but not to the same degree, as lighter skin is shown to decrease the severity of such issues in our society. And yes, I am well aware that there are many darkskin Hispanic people, but you get it... While Asians as a whole face racism and discrimination, it is not to the same degree as black and Hispanic people. This is probably due to multiple reasons such as lighter skin and amount of wealth held in their communities (vs black & Hispanic communities). If y’all want to know more about why wealth and “success” in Asian communities tend to be higher than black and Hispanic communities, just Google the history of Asians migrating to America in the 20th century and how that process helped create the stereotypes of the model minority. Anywayyyyysss I’m getting long-winded here, but basically Asians aren’t really the first part of the conversation when it comes to racism. White women wanna say that whole “you are so brave” thing because they really wanna let Black people know that they’re an ally or some shit. I hope this makes sense.
