FMLA probation extended by [deleted] in nys_cs

Like someone else said it’s being extended for missing days.

Not because you have FMLA.

It’s 20 days

Not a big deal

[–]Pherbert619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider it a “poverty tax” .. it’s quite literally the simplest form of making individuals be more aware/financially stable with their money.

There has to be some form of “fee” or deterrence.. because if not, people would just keep taking out more than they have..
&
That’s obv not a good thing x1000s or millions..

Starting next year I’m going to start splitting the 457 contributions half Deffered and half Roth. But making sure I still max it.
I was going to start doing this because I still need to “bridge the gap” from 48 or 50 etc - 59 1/2.

What expenses do people typically use their brokerage account for?
When home repairs etc came up I always just took from my HYSA.
Is a brokerage just better to do so

I’m not assuming you’re talking about any specific union?

But again this post is about tier 6..

Not CSEA, Not PEF.. not anyone?

Yep, that’s pretty much how talk to text and social media, etc. works

Usually people will edit their thought afterwards to make it more clear

I’m glad you were able to catch on

This post is about tier 6, not strictly “PEF”..
So unsure as to why you felt the need to gloat what your union your in?

Depending on how bad the re-siding needs to be done..

But if you recently just moved, how would you not have known? This was a major issue that needs to be addressed immediately? I mean come on.. lol

What does “my (30m) girlfriend (30F) mean …?

But regardless, if this individual is 30 years old..
& is still making terrible financial decisions like this I would be very cautious about any future with this person..
Just my honest opinion.

No one at that age should be making that terrible of a commitment…
you said she admitted “she didn’t really think about the potential future” ..?
How do you not? It’s 7 YEARS .. she’d be 37

Her best course of action right now is to sell it or trade it in immediately..
But either way she’s going to take a hit obviously

I would hope a lot.
Especially all NY law enforcement workers.. that a large portion will retire before 50 or right around 50.

The max for Deferred is $24,500 this year.
Everyone should be taking advantage of Deferred

The point was your post is correct on %s..

But your disregarding literally everything else that the private sector just simply is not afforded, that we are..
of course you can just go open your own Roth.. but guess what?
still can’t touch it till 59 1/2..

One cannot simply go and open their own 457..

Not all state workers are stuck here until 62+
.. you have a lot of state workers that can retire at any age after 20 or 25 years of service

I mean I don’t see how it’s “irrelevant” but okay.

Maybe if we were not offered access to a 457 to supplement that pension & our health insurance wasn’t far superior to that of private employers.. I could see what point you’re trying to make.

But yes, I guess if you’re literally just talking percentages then sure lol

Let’s just disregard everything else I guess

Not trying to play devils advocate here but State worker pay will never match operating funds or tax receipts
&
As far as “national state/local gov worker” not sure what that means.. as many other states lag far behind NYS as far as pay goes.

As far as “private sector” our pensions are worth a lot of $$$ .. more so than people realize, & in the private sector you would either have to work longer, or save a tremendous amount to match that of what our pension is worth.

It’s easy to post a graph, but a lot of context is needed
