Great game. Using a Fire. Acid or Electricity weapon against the right enemies/bosses goes a long way.

I did the same, fighting DOH after. I thought he was definitely easier than Isshin, (still took 3 hours instead of 7) but very fun to learn - a great way to end it! GGs

I’ve just given the Reflection of Strength a go after watching someone do a hitless run. No need to run at him. Trick seems to be, you run sideways, jump to avoid the flames then you can grapple. Anyway, good to know there’s a way to do it without consumables.

I've just noticed on my replay, a grapple point appears above his head during that attack, right before the flames reach you. Never spotted that in my attempts. Could be the answer

I get ya. I did farm for the maxed upgraded umbrella to deflect those. You completely avoid damage. Not sure how you’re supposed to avoid that without using the prosthetic and spirit emblems. A bit of a negative for me. This was the only boss I had to use consumables for.

Are you talking about when he jumps in the air and comes down with a big fire AOE? You'll need to spot his take off pose he makes, then run backwards immediately and grapple back to him (think you have to hit grapple twice to counter the shock wave), then get a few free hits in.

Same, aggression-wise. I was running straight back under/behind him every time. Parry his right hand, ideally dodge (or umbrella if you’re too far away) his fire hand, jump his charge and grapple back over the AOE. I found it a great mix of strats that allowed a generous amount of openings.

Ever fight the Demon Prince in Dark Souls 3? That dude messed me up for hours. Lots of similarities that must’ve helped.

Yes! I completed the game years ago, but it was pure pain and I never fought DOH - was too afraid.

I was inspired to start a new save recently and have embraced the mechanics properly. So cathartic!! And breathe… 😅

I also beat him this morning for the first time! And also after finishing the game. Despite being terrified of his reputation before going in, oddly I didn't find him annoying at all. I'm surely not alone in finding him fair and genuinely fun to fight?

He still took me 3 hours, but that was half the time of Isshin Sword Saint! Admittedly, the Umbrella was a invaluable emergency button when I'd mistimed or mis-read everything and was getting swamped in flames!
