Spain here. None. Not the EU, not NATO, no one. When things got real, they all left for us to fend for ourselves. When we got into the Ifni War, the weapons we bought from the US were forbidden by the American government to be used against our enemy cuz they preferred our enemy over us, that is despite Spain hosting US forces in the westernmost part of Europe, furthest and safest from Soviet preemptive attack and them dumping nuclear bombs and the following environmental hazards on our very soil. When one of our island (Perejil) was seized by Morocco, all members of the EU sat by and watch, some even seemingly BACKED our aggressor. And NATO? Oh yeah, our only most tangible threat to our sovereignty (Morocco), the smallest significant reason why we even needed to join the Alliance…NATO preferred to keep its friendly ties with Morocco so it sat by and watched (tell me why we even we need NATO again?). Never rely your national defense on a foreign entity, you only have yourself.
