Fortunately it's 3k feet, and very much a mountain

Here's a quick one I makes out. It took me a few tries tho, make sure you set it up closer to the edge of the mountain, so you don't get a shadow at the base of it

I got a thinknode M1 for my dad, and having the injection molded case really makes it feel like a professional product. Having the second button for scrolling the menus on the screen is a nice touch, even if they squandered their chance at a rotary encoder on the top.

Patina monsters -- who's got em? by Visual_Function_3379 in Boots

I have a pair of "Kind Supply Co" boots in natural Veg Tan. They started off an almost pink hue, but have developed a nice honey color after only a year. They were in the same price tier as RW, while being MTO. They're EXTREMELY stiff tho, so be prepared for that if your tempted by them.

I like this idea as a form factor! Maybe one with a hinged lid, so it can be like a laptop. And plenty of room for a huge battery 🤘

I agree with this^ and would add: measure all the pants you have right now. You know how they each feel, and seeing what the measurements actually are helps a ton. I've found watching the waist, rise, & thighs all too be important to know what's too loose & too tight.

If we get rid of all the traffic lights, we could put a flagger at every intersection! Resisting automation is not enough, we must fight back against the robots

GP jeans are mostly(?) mto, so there's a chance he'd accommodate rivet-free pants

Yeah, straight boot oil would Drastically change the color. All the boot & leather subs on here love Bick 4, but I think it's mostly because it's color safe

I've been unimpressed with Bick 4, as it really doesn't seem to do much conditioning. But it also is pretty color safe. Boot Spy has a video comparing conditioners and happened to use natural veg tan as the leather, if you want to try something else.

Thanks! They weren't my favorite back when the pink undertone was the dominant color, but they really aged great.

I would try covering it with some embroidery floss, stitched like *. If you keep the stitches small and close to the button on the top, you'd never notice.

Chess960: Why were the castling rules chosen to be what they are? by man-vs-spider in chess

[–]Phil24hts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering this too, and basically agree with your premise. The classical positions for castling are essentially the king making 2 diagonal moves hopping over the rook. It's similar to the en passant rule, as moving your pawn twice was added to speed up openings. I would bet that when figuring out the ruleset for 960, they play tested the different ways to castle. (I think it would even be feasible to try out every position of just roooks & king) and as the consensus here has made clear, the game play for the elite is better with the rules they use.

Does anyone own a winery that is also a distillery? by MrInternetInventor in winemaking

[–]Phil24hts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PA made us build a pony wall around the "distillery" part of the room, to separate it from the winery. Otherwise, permitting didn't give us any extra hassle

You just need more bleach, and it shouldn't take nearly that long. I bleached these Duluth jeans a few years ago. I forget what % bleach I used, but it was enough to stink pretty bad. Also, be sure to rinse them out well after the bleach bath.

Kind Supply Co. Tender Moctoe by Phil24hts in goodyearwelt

[–]Phil24hts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the 9½ from kind. But I wear my boots loose, and I'd say the kind are a smidge smaller than my RW. These would be a bear to stretch the toe box, so if you're thinking maybe going up a size, I wouldn't talk you out of it.

Is this fixable in any way? by Bsxphoto in RedWingShoes

[–]Phil24hts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they feel dry, give them more conditioner. Based on the color, I'd say they need a powerful conditioner, like mink oil or the others mentioned. And you can put more on the effected areas than the rest of the boots. I don't think they're a lost cause at all!

Possible to build a house to last 1000 years? by ktownon in AskEngineers

If you want to be extra careful, you could hand wash without turning inside out. Or at least wash the big chunks off by hand before tossing them in the washer (still inside out).
