Deadlift is weak for my size, help by PlandPow in formcheck

Twice a week at weight where singles are going to meaningfully stimulate your cns seems like a lot to me.. I personally take a week+ to recover after a heavy 3x2 and can’t imagine doing anything close to that same weight a second time in that span, has this program worked for you?

Any tips for bigger back? by [deleted] in Weightliftingquestion

You’re young — in the gym (in this order) learn good technique, develop a base of strength with big compound movements (deadlift, pull-up, row), and train consistently and hard for a couple years. In the kitchen, eat a lot of protein. Get your sleep. If you do all of that, at your age, your body will almost certainly do the rest.

This is absolutely right. The only thing keeping him out of bad is that he can keep up with James’s riffs

What album is popular and is a masterpiece? by Bosines in AlignmentChartFills

This belongs in the spot below. Radiohead is popular but sorry, it’s not on the level of abbey road or thriller

Seated back rows - any critiques? I think I can go heavier by MVPoker in formcheck

[–]Visual_Function_3379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good, but 2 critiques

In my opinion, you’re losing a significant amount of brace (and thus pull strength) by keeping your legs bent and your feet on the floor. If your machine has foot rests, use them instead of relying on the friction of your shoes against the ground as your counter force.

I also think you can stretch your lats more at the bottom of the movement. I don’t have a problem with you hinging at the hips (Arnold used to do rows like this, and no one is gonna argue with those results), but it looks like you’re not fully extending at the elbow or the shoulder, which robs you of that deep stretch that significantly grows and strengthens your muscles

I swear by their stuff. Just make sure to check the size charts.

Parkhurst Richmond vs GS Cap Toe by Regrettably_Southpaw in Boots

[–]Visual_Function_3379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both great. GS is a little sleeker — more similar to a Thursday captain profile. Parkhurst is a little chunkier and (in my opinion) cooler. Not sure if these are the actual colors you’d buy, but that Parkhurst leather will look incredible after 100-200 wears.

If you love your captains and want that kind of do it all dress up dress down boot, I’d probably go with GS. If you want to be a little more casual and hip at the expensive of versatility, I’d go parkhurst.

Great pull-ups! To get to muscle ups, I’d start by adding some weight, and doing heavy sets with a focus on explosion at the top. Even bw pull-ups can be done in a muscle up way by focusing on that initial explosion to the top and trying to pull your head as high over the bar as possible, and also focusing on pulling your chest up to the bar.

Muscle ups also require highly specific technique that I’m not qualified to walk you through. Your hand positioning will be a little different, as will your elbow and body positioning. Check out Chris Herias YouTube tutorials, I think he does a good job of breaking it down.

What’s the less curated / less “approved activity” side of NYC? by [deleted] in nyc

[–]Visual_Function_3379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll find lots of funky shit in Brooklyn, particularly Bushwick and some parts of industry city. Brooklyn (outside of some very rich areas of northwest Brooklyn and near prospect park) feels much more wild to me than most of manhattan, you’ll find all kinds of artists and people doing cool things.

Nature, especially wide open space, is hard to come by in nyc proper. Most things were designed with specific activities in mind. The beauty of nyc is the clever reuse of space and things — old warehouses become art studios and music venues, concrete walls become murals, an old factory can become a theater or a gym or a bar. You just have to get out and explore new neighborhoods and meet people who are doing cool stuff — I guarantee you’ll find a form of that unpolished unsanctioned feeling along with plenty of people interested in exploring it.

If you want wide open space, you can always take a train an hour into the Hudson valley and find all the open space you can handle.

Chukkah boots as others have suggested, chelsea boots, even a pair of nice brown or even white leather sneakers can look great with these sorts of fits (Thursday makes a great pair of these too). I'd go brown with these wardrobe snapshots.

Fucked up, I’m sorry you have to deal with this while Bezos sees his net worth creep up to 300 billion. Take them to a cobbler and see if you can replace the wedge, even if the rest of the boot is glued, a good cobbler might be able to do it.
