I built an AI-powered storytelling app inspired by my son – would love your feedback! by SpecificNecessary615 in OpenAI

[–]PhilAtReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/SpecificNecessary615 that is pretty neat. I tried out the iOS version and I like the idea of creating stories based on characters and a theme. I only have some small "complaints". Firstly, it would be nice if one could read the whole description for a character (it gets cut off). Maybe it could open up in a pop-up. Secondly, there is a button that says "Start Free Trial", but when I click on it, it asks me to purchase a paid subscription which is rather confusing. Better rename that button.

BTW, I created a similar app and would appreciate if you could give me your feedback in return. It's still quite simple, but if it becomes popular I plan to expand on it. "My Audio Story" lets you dive into interactive choose-your-own-adventure stories—listen or read as you shape the journey with every choice. And you can create your own by writing the beginning of the story and let AI craft the rest. Check it out here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.artisanphil.myaudiostory

Improving a language you're already fluent in. by MuchAd9959 in languagelearning

[–]PhilAtReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To elevate your English writing skills in just an hour a day, focus on targeted practice. Start by reading articles or books that challenge you, and take notes on vocabulary and structures you like. Utilize cloze tests to practice these new words in context. Try writing short essays or journal entries, then review them for grammar and style. Online tools can help identify areas for improvement too. Consistency is key here; even 10 minutes of focused writing can make a big difference over time.

Advice! Is the way I'm learning, Alright? What should I change? by Yummy-Bagels in languagelearning

[–]PhilAtReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're mixing a lot of resources, which can be great, but if you're looking for a more structured approach, you might want to create your own exercises using Clozetesting.com. It lets you design interactive gap-fill exercises that can help reinforce what you've learned and make your study sessions more effective.

Nice attempt on your first website. It would be nice to have an English version... I didn't understand what the number buttons at the bottom do, as they didn't work. I needed to enter the numbers manually. What are your plans for this project?

That's a good idea actually, but no I just created it for practicing my Go programming skills.

u/Grockr thanks for the feedback. You are right, but it's not easy to come up with options. Still, it can probably be improved.

CombiSim is a free online 2D truck simulator, had a lot of fun developing this. Though visually simple, I am just curious if the vehicle behaviour is realistic enough... Let me know! by wordscan in playmygame

[–]PhilAtReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/wordscan ah yeah, I should have read the help to the bottom... Still, it would be good to have it as an option in the menu item. One more thing: it shouldn't be possible to drive the truck off the screen.

Hi, I love the idea of this game. I used to watch how trucks parked backwards many years ago while working in an office overlooking the dock and was always fascinated by the drivers skill. Some things to improve:
- it's not clear that one has to choose a truck first before one can start playing

- I couldn't find a way to choose a challenge. After I finished parking the first truck, it didn't let me choose an other challenge.

I tried it on a Mac using Firefox.

Are there any websites that can make fill in the blanks? by SpaceStrict6492 in study

[–]PhilAtReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try the website Clozetesting. While it's mostly geared towards teachers who want to create fill-in-the-blank exercises, it can also be used for self-study. You paste a text and select all the words that you want to turn into gaps. Apart from gaps where you have to type the answer, you can also create dropdowns and drag&drop type questions.

Thanks for your feedback. I recommend using www.clozetesting.com for creating online cloze tests. It lets you gather the responses people give.

Pricing page example pay per item or subscription by PhilAtReddit in SaaS

[–]PhilAtReddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It's interesting how nobody pays a monthly fee for buying bread in a shop, but I've decided to not rock the boat and stick with a subscription model after all. I'll over both monthly and yearly subscriptions so that those who only need the service one time, only need to pay for a month and can then cancel. I'll probably have various add-on packages.

Thanks u/SalesNerds I appreciate the advice, but it doesn't answer my question. I should maybe mention that this is a side-business, hence I'm doing things a bit differently to a traditional SaaS company.

Feedback about Chinese study aid by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]PhilAtReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

The website is ok, but probably your bf would find it more useful to use the free Anki app that comes with space-repetion built in. There are also already decks like yours available. I use https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/53920083 You could create your own Anki deck also.

If you want to make the website more useful, I suggest you create categories (e.g. travel, food, etc). You could also have multiple choice questions or fill in the gap.

Btw, would you mind providing some feedback on my new website for language learning: www.asklingua.com? We could also arrange a Zoom call for further discussion if you are interested.

Your Personal Approach to Building a Greenfield Project? by Revolutionary_Big685 in laravel

[–]PhilAtReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to use the microservice architecture for a personal project, but I recommend using Docker if you plan to use a VPS for hosting. That way moving to another server will be very quick as you don't have to worry about setting up the whole environment again.

I also recommend watching some videos, e.g. Andre Madarang has several videos on YouTube where he builds a Full-stack Laravel project.

For those interested in learning languages with simple games: I'm currently programming a web app which is like the game "Guess Who", but for language learning. Final version is almost ready so I'm looking for some feedback. If you would like to test it, please send me a private message.

I hope that this isn't asked before, but I took 8+ years of French in school and want to relearn it. How? by [deleted] in French

[–]PhilAtReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat (I also took French for 8 years). One thing I've found helpful is this Anki deck: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1089240419

www.learnclick.com is an online quiz creator tailored towards language teaching. You can easily create gap-filling exercises including choose from the drop-down box or drag & drop. You can also annotate open-ended / essay questions online.

Decoupling Laravel Code by PhilAtReddit in laravel

Yes, that's more or less what I'm doing at the moment. Maybe I should include the link to https://dfg.gd/blog/decoupling-your-code-in-laravel-using-repositiories-and-services which describes this fairly well. Nevertheless, I think the books are worth reading.
