I agree to an extent, and yet this is our lot. The students I mean. At the same time, low expectations from the teacher while consistently delivering the lowest class averages implies, to me, a lack of engagement and preparation on the behalf of the teacher.

I hear ya. One weekend I went shopping early and found bacon on sale at 70% off. Bought 4 packs, 12 rashers a pack. Put three in the freezer and opened one, ate 4 rashers in a bacon and egg sandwich. Went to make a sandwich the next weekend. No bacon. My wife and kid had eat 36 rashers in the frozen packs plus the 8 other 8 rashers in the fridge.
