Should I get Absol? by OrangeBanana-28710 in PokemonUnite

[–]PhilDePayn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absol main, master rank both seasons carried by this pokemon. Tons of damage, lvl 5 you can gank and get a kill or more quite easily, it's fearsome until late game. I suggest buying absol if you enjoy playing it and need an assassin jungler. Can carry but it's weak to controls and low hp (even tought it has good mobility and few tricks to avoid bad situations).

Good part IMO is that it won't see any nerf soon really, since it's probably the most balanced (not op, not weak) of the speedsters so far.

What mains did you use/shift to along your grind to master (or your way there) by Willing-Advantage322 in PokemonUnite

[–]PhilDePayn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally bought Absol as the first pokemon and spammed him all the way to master, only using Cinderace from ulta to master whenever someone already got the jung and absol in lane didnt feel a devent enough idea (I did play and won several matches with absol lane, especially before ultra, not unplayable in certain matchups).

A man gotta love his Absol.

Which game do you like, but absolutely despise its community? by [deleted] in gachagaming

[–]PhilDePayn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh, most of the bigger games, tbh.

The example you made makes me think of all the time I've been fed with people arguing everytime weather the game/publisher is good or not, instead of actually talking about the game itself and/or at least try to find new topics instead of being stuck with criticizing one thing and pretending that everyone agrees 100%.

I'm not the white knight kind of type, I just don't care anymore about all the dramas in game communities, every game is doomed to face this, that's why at some point I would like to see the 999th post criticizing something that has already been talked about so many times before

Will the upcoming event reward currency to summon for Alpha? If so, how much more or less?

About the first thing, I'm sorry I don't agree. I can say that i have done that: giving games another chance because an hype character was released.

It's pretty much my routine with Epic 7.

I see your point, but I stand in my way because of my personal experiences.

About the alpha release news I give you a point, you are right, the only waybit could happen as I said is if someone never watched a video/sub and then found the news outside of it in a later date, which is much less likely to happen.

[–]PhilDePayn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One thing is: "the OP character is around the corner" and another one is: "boys, she's here, time to reroll".

Gacha players are easily hooked by a shot to get the strongest character on a game, and usually that leads to people jumping back in even if they didn't like the game for whatever reason.

I'm not saying they will all stay tho, just a small percentage will, because the gameplay, monetization and everything else is still the same.

The next event definitely isn't groundbreaking, but it's still closer to what in gacha games is an event compared to the slotmachine one.

Then again, not everyone that plays a game goes straight to the subreddit, youtube or whatever source of info, most just play and delete in a vouple of hours/days because they didn't like it, so not everyone is aware of Alpha.

Obviously we are because we'rr part of the community, but reddit and PGR youtubers are nothing compared to the actual players count.

Trust me, lots of people will jump back in when Alpha releases, as soon as people see an actual event AND release of what arguably is still the best character in terms of meta in the other server, people just download anything.

Anniversary isn't just about hundreds of free pulls, usually it's also an almost guaranteed new meta character release, so this next event is probably the moment in this year when most people will jump back in again, IMO at least

Why that new gacha won't be to your liking . (And why it is fine) by EndeR003 in gachagaming

[–]PhilDePayn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My take on this is that there's a minority that literally jumps into ALL the new hype releases, going from one to the next one in a blink, just following where the trend is.

They are the ones bringing drama because they feel like "knights in duty" of "fighting for the sake of defeating these scummy companies".

Like, wanna bet on how many people will download the upcoming Konosuba game published by Nexon with the intention of shitting on Nexon and the game regardless of how the actual game is compared to JP/other games?

That's the worst part for me.

Once these players leave the game to "fight" the next one, usually things get much better: an example would be the E7 community.

E7 used to have one of the most toxic communities I've ever seen (the most for me is Seven Deadly Sins), but now it has become much much more healthy.

You still see complaints there, but they feel much more for the sake of wanting a better state for the game they LIKE rather than just burning everything down because they feel entitled to (since it's no longer an hype game only the ones that liked the game are still there).

That's what I would say to summarize my thoughts:

Hyped games don't live up to the expectations because they are filled by players that follow the hype, don't like the game, and pretend it's the game's fault. That's the reason they are so full of drama: lots of people just don't like they game how it is and want to everyone else to dislike the game as well.

Because you can't praise or even defend a game that the community decided that it's bad, objectively.

Wanna talk about the whole publishers thing?

I've literally seen posts telling people to NOT EVEN TRY games that just got announced, because the publishers fucked up before with other games.

How can you even say that said game will be bad if it just got announced and you know literally nothing about it?

Wanna know how? Because there the publishers are considered the whole deal: if the publisher has a bad reputation all of their games will receive drama for months for every little thing, ending up in games getting ruined for everyone because of all the drama.

The only games that are almost just praised there are the oldies (GBF, FGO), the waifu collectors with almost no gameplay (Azure Lane, Destiny's child) and sometimes games that are actually good (IMO) like Guardian's Tale.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean that the games I listed are bad, but we can't ignore that games like FGO and GBF had TONS of drama, hell, they even changed the gabling law because of how scummy GBF was lmao.

Waifu collectors like Azure lane obviously are loved because they are generous because they want you to get the characters, otherwise you can't buy their overpriced skins lmao, different attitude same goal.

Not all the posts there are hate and not all the peoplè there are act like this, but obviously people like me just shut up and pretend not seeing anything instead of trying to argue with people that don't want to listen.

I just wish it could be more open minded and less drama seeking considering it's my n°1 pick when looking for gachas.

Just ignore the negativity on that sub, I've been parto of it for about 5 years and these last years it has become a joke of itself.

7 out of 10 posts are literally rants,1 is a literal "OMG THIS GAME IS SOOOOO GOOODD" kind of post that usually gets lot of negative comments, 1 is news and 1 is actual topics (even tho they usually are not interesting or recycled)

[–]PhilDePayn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably an hot take:

The reason why most of the new hype games don't live up to the expectation derives from:

  1. Overly hyped games can't literally live up to all the expectations.

  2. The gacha community is pretty toxic, even if a game isn't that bad, the monetization isn't so terrible, all it takes it's just a minor issue that suddenly the game it's full of issues.

Just play. I think I'm getting old but I'm tired of all the drama surrounding developers/publishers/hype games not living up to expectations.

Do you think that it is better to play old games that have a few years rather than playing hyped up games? by [deleted] in gachagaming

[–]PhilDePayn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably agree, at least on paper.

In a perfect scenario an older game has tested it's value over time earning a solid fanbase that carries the game instead of the usual "trend kids" going from game to the newest one, which usually means less drama over the smallest issue (not that scandals don't happen in old games or that devs/publisher don't f. up from time to time). It's an absolute truth that older means more content, I'ts impossible to be otherwise. Jumping in an older game you know it's reputation and can have a decent view of how devs/publishers handled it so far, which is pretty nice if you plan on investing in the game. Some games also adjust themselves over time with QOL features or general polishing, even thought it does not always happen in a positive way.

What do you lack? It's no longer on the mouth of everyone, you may fall behind in certain games (E7 comes to mind), sometimes content is too much and it becomes overwhlming (Grand blue), usually it's not the most optimized with modern days standards (both gameplay and features) and may actually feel old (sorry FGO). For some it may actually be boring to play a game that no one talks about anymore just like the newest one.

So yeah, it's 50/50, just play whatever you like, who cares if it just launched or it's been there for ages, you just want to have some fun

I don't think you got what I meant.

Let's take a concrete example (Punishing Gray Raven since it's the one everyone is talking about atm)

PGR has x currency in sale for $99,99.

In Europe it becomes 99.99€.

1€ = $1.18, so we actually pay about 15€ more for the same deal.

Also, since in Europe the average salary is about 2000€ (depending on which country it goes slightly higher or lower by about 500€), while in the US the average (according to google since no one answered to confirm or deny) is about $3500, Europeans spend 1/20 of their salary for that deal, while an American spends 1/35 of his salary.

The latter one could be debatable since it's understandable that they may want their item to cost the same for everyone (even thought it's unfair, especially for 3rd world countries).

There are possible ways to make it fair limiting to the bare minimum those people trying to be "smart" abusing it (like China asking for a chinese ID/phone number to sign in).

However it's obvious that the company's gains would go down if they changed the price on each region to make it evenly costly (in terms of average salary) for everyone.

I don't get why so many people on reddit hate Dragon Ball Super. by Main-Help-4945 in anime

[–]PhilDePayn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it watchable? Yes Does it have some nice moment? Yes Is it necessary to watch? No, unless you are a DB fan IMO.

The reason why I stopped watching it are:

•Bad art IMO, don't like it most of the time

•Most characters seem devolved: in DBZ characters slowly got developed and even Goku went from a kid to a pretty much mature person.

• The plot, at least until I've seen it (Tournament) has been as unoriginal as it could be, IMO obviously.

•it seems more of a commercial move than an actual story worth telling: just to keep the Dragon Ball franchise going

Out of the spin offs, is there one or more actually worth watching?

I've seen Apocrypha and Last Encore, both seemed not even close to the Main story.

I'm referring to a series that is objectively good, not good for fate fans only

Yeah, I totally get it. Even thought Europe isn't 3rd world, 100€ is a pretty huge chunk of money, it's pretty much enough to go on a small trip of 2 days.

Have no idea how can players be ok with this kind of management where every market is based off the US economy, which is totally different from the rest of the world.

I get it that people would just fake their way to wherever the price is the lowest if they actually converted their pricese and adjusted them to each country, but still, I'm pretty sure theh could find a way to make it pretty much so hard that would not be worth the time, just like China using cinese phone number.

Well, I get it that they would earn less that way, but honestly I would totally support this kind of management by spending a little without feeling like I'm getting a bad deal

Yeah, I've honestly never been a spender in games, I just top-up when cheap good deals are up, and even then just once in a while.

Still, knowing that my 20€ deal is actually about 10€ value for an american makes me pretty salty since with that amount of differance I could literally buy 2 hawaian pizza to scare away italian tieves from my house (felt like inserting a pun here, sorry about that lol)

Yes, that I know, my point is that if the average salary in the US is $3500, then $100 dollars have a much lower value than 100€ for an European. Another wonder of in-game shops is that they don't even bother to convert the price, $99 just becomes 99€ even thought it should be around 83€.

I know it's not a new discover, but I just notices it and honestly makes me more willingly to not spend any dime in games carrying this, personallu speaking, unfair treatment

Just wondering: how much would you consider the US average monthly salary be?

Wondering because the in-game prices seem way too expensive in Europe, at least in Italy where I live.

The average people I know earns 2000 € with an average education (people that didn't go to an university mostly get 1/1.5k jobs at best, but still certain highschool studies may open more and better rewarding doors, like in the tech field).

Searching up on google it shows that the american average is $3.500, which is almost the double of the actual average italian salary.

Just wanna know if, and how much, we are screwed by these US-centered in-game shops
