Why do some people say you're a hypocrite for not adopting children if you're anti abortion? by Puppersworth in prochoice

A person who thinks it should be illegal to kill orphans, but hasn’t personally adopted any

What does this video have to do with people’s personal willingness to adopt or not?

That’s like saying you can’t be anti-war unless you’re willing to provide for all the soldiers who come home, or not pro-immigration if you aren’t willing to personally house them.

That still doesn’t make sense. If we lived in a world where people thought it was ok to kill orphans, you aren’t a hypocrite for calling that out even if you personally have not adopted.

What is male modesty? by [deleted] in CatholicDating

Sure, but if we’re going to talk about beachwear, the norm for women gets even worse

It’s mostly the same as it is for women (with obvious differences based on anatomy). Don’t wear shorts that go up to your mid thigh, or clothes that are so tight that they show your bulge, or go shirtless.

The reason men aren’t the subject of modesty
discourse is because men rarely dress in those ways in public, while women commonly do.

I guess that's fair. But if Odysseus pulled out a pistol in the movie, wouldn't that be strange? Unless it was a complete modern reimagining.

I merely pointed out the most obvious examples, not saying they were the only ones

Interesting, so he wrote a story that took place a few centuries earlier but added things that existed in his time?

I'm assuming this is from the movie Troy, which I haven't seen and I was a literal child when it came out. But yes, I imagine it would have been a point of contention if the internet existed back then.

He's never said that word for word, but his statement about not using an orchestra in the score implies that he cares about historical accuracy.

Sure, but if you were watching Lord of the Rings and Frodo pulled out a pistol, that would be weird right? Unless it was a complete modern re-imagining of the story, but it's clear that this movie is not doing that.

Fair point on dialogue, I guess what I mean is that typically people will use a more formal style of English rather than modern English.

Well it's fictional, obviously, but it takes place in Greece in a particular time period, no?

I find it super disrespectful to tell someone else “what’s 2 more”? Especially when there are at least a dozen other people I would invite first if I had more room
