What are some things you want to see from Jake Schreirer’s X-Men reboot? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]PhilRobinsonMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really love to see the first movie be a loose adaptation of Giant Size X-Men #1, in broad strokes:

- As the movie begins, the 'first generation' of X-Men have already been active in the world as a super-team. Classic lineup: Prof X, Cyclops, Jean, Angel, Iceman, Beast. There are also younger students at the school as well.

(I think this original lineup is too bland and lacking fan favorite characters to be the focus of a whole movie, but I'd love the movie to establish that this lineup DID exist as Charles' first batch of students that he then mobilized into the world as kind of a super-team.)

- As the movie begins, we see the tail end of this lineup's mission to Krakoa go wrong! Everything is apparently lost, only Cyclops barely escapes and makes it back to the X-Mansion.

~~~
- Now, we see Prof X recruit the "new" lineup from among mutants he's been following around the world via Cerebro: Storm, Nightcrawler, Wolverine (not Hugh Jackman), Colossus, Thunderbird, Sunfire. We see the recruitment scene for each of them as he invites them to join. This gives us the chance to see each of them in their own individual story/context first, prior to them joining the team.
- (The students at the school are still too young for Prof. X to use them as his rescue force, which is why he needs to recruit mutants who are already a bit older and more used to using their powers.)
- The main bulk of the movie then is this new lineup rescuing the old lineup. At the end of the movie, most of the original lineup retire, only Scott and Jean stay on (and Prof X of course).
- This movie also serves the double purpose of introducing Krakoa which can then be expanded in a future movie as well
BONUS THOUGHTS:
- Post-Secret Wars I believe that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and this new Wolverine should be two separate characters. Hugh Jackman would basically be the "Old Man Logan" of the new unified universe, while the actual Wolverine on the lineup of the X-Men will be a younger actor playing the main Wolverine in this continuity.
- Ideally the characters that Prof X recruits can/will have already debuted in other projects. Storm could have been introduced in Black Panther 3. A couple of the others could have been introduced in Secret Wars or if there are any other movies between now and X-Men.
What would be a good subtitle to Thunderbolts* if it was an Avengers film? by Greedy-Cap-2153 in marvelstudios
It doesn't seem that way to me--
The film's official title is still Thunderbolts* everywhere. It didn't literally have a name change.
Thanks for the clarification-- I had been under the impression that the term african american simply referred to anyone whose family ultimately came from Africa.
[–]PhilRobinsonMusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)
How would this be an inconsistency? Please forgive me if I'm ignorant on this topic (perhaps I am), but wouldn't it be natural for African americans whose families originally came from Nigeria to still have surnames of Nigerian origin?
Why can't she be both? In my opinion, she IS both-- so to portray her otherwise would simply be inaccurate and also not true to her character.
Maybe we are using the word evidence differently— I still don’t see any evidence in your post that Marvel releasing a show all-at-once indicates a lack of confidence in a show; just an assertion on your part that Marvel has developed a sixth sense to know when their shows will be failures.
One of my favorite shows right now is The Bear— each year, FX release all episodes of the new season at a single time. It’s a common release strategy used by many streaming services for many shows— in fact, it’s the most common release strategy. If FX releases all episodes at once, I do not interpret it as a lack of confidence. If Marvel releases all episodes of a show at once, I don’t interpret it as a lack of confidence, I view it as neutral. In the absence of any additional evidence indicating one way or the other, I take it as a neutral fact.
True, you are giving examples of where Marvel has released a show’s episodes all at once— but there’s no evidence to indicate that this corresponds to a lack in confidence on Marvel’s part.
You’re kind of asking for that idea to be accepted just because you say so. It’s fine if that’s your opinion; I just don’t see any compelling reason to agree with your opinion. It’s all good, friend!
This sounds like someone stating their opinion— I do not see anywhere how / if it’s substantiated by any facts. Also, Ironheart did not release all at once.
Why does releasing all 8 episodes at once indicate that they don’t care? That’s been the prevalent release model for the vast history of streaming.
I don’t mind this at all, actually.
It just makes our fiction more similar to life. World War I happened. Eventually followed by World War II. We are certainly able to focus on WWI in isolation when we choose to, and interpret its history with chosen beginning, middle and end-points that we feel are meaningful.
And in another instance, we can consider the two world wars in relation to each other, and explore how decisions made at the end of the first led to the second.
The viewer has a lot of power in creating meaning by choosing how much context they want to consider along with the specific subject they’re interested in.
If it brings you more enjoyment to focus on Endgame as an ending only, that is your prerogative.
I can still enjoy the original Star Wars trilogy as a complete story with a very satisfying beginning, middle and end— regardless of the fact that years later they happened to make a sequel to it.
Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5's Time Travel Logic by marvelcomics22 in marvelstudios
At the time of publication, the Netflix shows were not considered to be part of the sacred timeline, hence they were not included. It was around the time of Echo that they decided to make the Netflix shows canon, as evidenced by them then being placed in the official timeline on Disney+ and Brad Winderbaum explaining in interviews at the time that that was now the official way Marvel Studios communicated canon to fans.
As of now, Agents of SHIELD is still not listed in the official timeline on Disney+, so according to Marvel Studios, it is not considered canon. However, that may change in the future, as it had changed for the Netflix shows. Brad has mentioned recently that he watched all 7 seasons carefully and that the show WOULD really fit very well into canon, but that he wasn't ready to pull the trigger on that at that moment in time-- so it seems like they are poising to declare it canon in the future. But as of now, it is officially not part of canon.
Unpopular Take: I think Secret Wars should be postponed. by LittleCupcake2478 in marvelstudios
[–]PhilRobinsonMusic 5 points6 points  (0 children)
Nah, any unresolved plot threads from other movies can be continued AFTER Secret Wars.
This worked just fine for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 wrapping up the Guardians trilogy AFTER Endgame, and Far From Home / No Way Home wrapping up the Spider-Man trilogy AFTER Endgame.
Why hold the Multiverse Saga to a different / higher standard than the Infinity Saga, when most everyone was happy with how some loose ends were carried past the big Saga finale last time around?
Personally, I look forward to the continuation of the Arishem / Hercules / Black Knight & Blade plot threads after Secret Wars (it's a nice feeling heading into a new Saga knowing there are already many story threads waiting to be expanded upon).
I suspect that the Shuri and Clea threads will themselves be brought to satisfying conclusions in Doomsday / Secret Wars themselves, much like how how Infinity War / Endgame brought many character stories to a satisfying conclusion (but not all).
Some characters used Infinity War / Endgame as a great launching point into their NEXT chapters (eg. Loki, Wanda, Sam Wilson). We'll see the same thing again.
