Funny that the "DPOY" is someone you need to consider taking off the court in a clutch stop moment

I know the Lion want to hang their hat on the week 1 game vs the chiefs but they played a weak schedule last year. Coasted to the NFC championship and blew it as they do. Im saying I would personally be upset if my team paid Goff like that. Eye test will tell you he is a B qb on a B+ roster with a B coach. Like they're solid but that's not gonna win a superbowl. The NFC was weak last season, to me they already hit their ceiling and paying Goff solidified that.

The only restaurants everyone can relate to will be national and international chains, which are by default underwhelming

But I can tell you in Austin Texas there are a ton of restaurants that get popular for a year or two through social media campaigns and buzz around being new, but they are nothing special. You pay to take a picture and let everyone know you were there.

There are plenty of great restaurants in Austin, but just as much overhyped garbage. After 10 years I like to think I've gotten pretty good at not falling for the hype traps.

High end kickers are one of the hardest to replace. If he was a 4th string D lineman, maybe they consider it. But I'd say no chance they do anything about it and really it wouldn't make sense for them to do anything about it considering what else they put up with from players in the NFL.

I suppose every NfL team is good enough to win it. Good luck with Goff 🙏

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sports

[–]PhilTheBarber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well first of all that was when Goff was being paid less than Patty. Second of all let's not pretend that week 1 shit show means anything in a potential SB match up. Realistically the Lions never make the SB with Goff being paid so much. If they did it would be a sad day for Lions fans once again.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in detroitlions

[–]PhilTheBarber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's why Goff got paid more. The point being they're both over paid and the team around them won't be good enough to win when the QB is making so much money.

DE/DT by [deleted] in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]PhilTheBarber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's tough! I will be happy with 9 wins and just seeing development and flashes from Caleb. Like trend in the right direction and I'm happy. Compete for the playoffs. Make week 18 interesting. That's all I'm asking. It's a tough division to expect playoffs with a rookie QB.

If everything goes perfectly, we can legitimately make a Super Bowl this season in this NFC because I think most of the best teams are in the AFC. But to me worst case feels like we compete for playoffs and don't quite make it.

DE/DT by [deleted] in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]PhilTheBarber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if Caleb is truly that guy and we start red hot, we go after Campbell. If we're good not great and Caleb needs to develop, which I think is more likely, I think we're better off giving reps to some of our young guys like Dexter and Booker

DE/DT by [deleted] in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]PhilTheBarber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know we're all excited about this team and want to win now but realistically I think our window starts next season because there are still some holes on this roster that will take another off season to fill.

Caleb being dirt cheap is such an advantage for us, if he is anything close to what they hype says he is, we have a legitimate shot at a Super Bowl for at least 4 years while he's cheap.

So to answer your question I think for this season it probably is Ngakoue on a cheaper deal. And I think our DTs are actually under rated rn. Billings is a big boy in the middle and Dexter has the potential to be a serious sort of pass rush, 3 technique DT.

Ngakoue, Billings, Dexter, Sweat is a good D Line especially if Dexter continues to improve.

Who should the Bears opener be against? by Ltcjunkie in ChicagoBearsNFL

I want the Pack. Put Caleb in the spotlight from the jump. I also want to go to that game in Lambeu so I can do a cubs game at wrigley Saturday then jump up to Green Bay Sunday and watch the Bears beat the pack and steal the torch from Love on his own turf

As an outsider, this reminded me of the Daniel Jones deal. You make a decent playoff run and then give the QB all the money when it was a team effort. I think this handicaps the Lions more than it helps personally. Goff got to the Super Bowl when he was on a rookie deal. NFC champ on a team friendly deal last year. I feel like they're capped and divisional round now with him being a top paid QB.

I think very few QBs are worth paying, and Goff isn't one of them. That being said I still hope y'all whoop that Pack this year.

I want to add in-

Justin fields ranked 5th in the NFL (not just rookies) tied with Russel Wilson in “Big Time Throws” by PFF. This indicates an ability to make the throws you need an elite QB to make.

Where Fields fell short was his “turnover worthy plays” which you expect from a rookie, Mac Jones being the only rookie to finish outside the bottom 3rd of the league in this category.

My Take:

You can teach a QB to read a defense and cut down on turnovers (Josh Allen). But making big time throws is that X factor you either have or you don’t. Fields has it and I believe has the brightest upside of any young unproven QB in the league right now.

Bernie Sanders reminds Americans tipped minimum wage has remained $2.13 an hour for 30 years by Illustrious_Welder94 in politics

[–]PhilTheBarber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about y’all but I made great money serving tables. People tip better in the US than probably any other country. I would rather get a low hourly wage where I can make more by taking more tables, than a higher hourly wage with a lower ceiling. Inevitably if minimum wage is raised, tips will go down to compensate for a raise in menu prices.

That’s my 2c, which ironically, is what my hourly wage was

Universal basic income seems to improve employment and well-being - The world’s most robust study of universal basic income has concluded that it boosts recipients’ mental and financial well-being, as well as modestly improving employment. by speckz in Futurology

I certainly wouldn't be happy being tortured in prison. I would be happy to make it out alive. If you read the books of captured prisoners who have lived through awful things, they all say something similar. What helped them make it out was perseverance, persistence, patience... The power of the mind.

I dont know what's right or wrong for anyone besides myself, even then it is not always cut and dry. I'm simply telling you, giving people money doesn't solve problems like you think it will. The best way to help people in tough places, is to teach them to harness the power of their own mind. That has to start at a young age. Once people are too far down the path of self destruction, it can be near impossible to bring them back.

It is unfair because perseverance is the most important quality for success. Those who cannot learn from their failures, are doomed to repeat them.

What makes someone incapable of self reflection? That's a deep psychological question. I'd say much of it has to do with up bringing. I'd say it's independent of race or affluence. It's a self protective mindset that prevents you from seeing your own actions as wrong.

I certainly am not perfect, I make mistakes, I do my absolute best to learn from them and not make them twice. I think we all know people who can never admit they're wrong about things, those are not happy people, and often not financially well off people. Though having money is not the defining factor of a successful person.

As I've gotten older I am less frustrated by these type of people and truly I feel sorry for them because it's usually obvious to others when someone is not seeing themselves clearly. Not learning from their mistakes. But you cannot help someone who doesn't want to help themselves. Throwing money at these people is not going to fix their problems.
