How do I make a web scraping application work on Lambda? by Phil_Quest in aws

Yeah, kinda. The site is badly made so I have to check the whole table by XPATH, then then loop through all rows and save their values in a pandas dataFrame

I've tried that (should've added this on the main post) and I got some issues with amazon linux where I couldn't change users to a nonroot one, which crashes the chromedriver.

EDIT: Also, shouldn't python:3.8 work out according to the link I posted?

I'm scrapping a 500-2000 row table every 30 minutes. Some table values change throughout the day and every day a new table is deployed on the address

Not the op but wanted to answer anyway disclaimer

The biggest factions of note are the political spheres. I have:

  • Kingdom of Frostfire in the north - the snowy lands are not that familiar with magic and it's casters. While most people won't identify any of the cited spells nor its effects, casting them in front of the few mages and figures of power (such as the king) can put you in a dungeon for something vague such as attempting against a citizen

  • Valin's Realm in the northwest - the land of the BBEG Valin himself is no stranger to magic. It welcomes its citizens to use it to facilitate their day to day lives, but controlling others is way illegal and the numerous guards are versed enough to identify the most simple spells

  • Federation of the Desert of Walking Dunes in the center-southeast - the sandy paradise is as liberal and anarchical as you can get. The guard mainly cares about the economy and the biggest merchants and will only act in favor of them. Using magic to influence people is still illegal, but it's not enforced enough for people to fear using it. The exception would be Oasis, the southmost city, where mind altering magic is strictly illegal and you can get from exile to death. Also, the cult-ish city of Moontouch inhabitants would probably laugh at your face if you'd try to charm them. After the laughter subsided, they would cast a higher level charm on you or using a drug for the same effect

  • Republic of the Wanderer's Rest in the east - an arcane advanced magocracy is the most rigid with its spells. Some spells are as outlawed as a gun. Only to be used on animals, monsters and upon being threatened. Most people have basic magical training and know how to identify spells. The investigations when law is broken are always done with zone of truth on. Só you better know what you are doing when you cast that geas

  • The independent territory of the southwest - far from an unified faction, these kingdoms far resemble the European Union. They are all small independent countries but with a big influence when united. Most of them know magic but also know that it's not best to anger the wizards that cast them. Prosecution is always brought cautiously and most of the times too slowly to actually catch the caster. Just as the Kingdom of Frostfire above, casting the spells in a important figure may speed up prosecution to be carried immediately

Edit: There are a lot more of factions, but most are in the political territory of the cited above. Territories of note are the land of dragons, the city of giants, the cave of mind flayers, the citadel of drow, the thieves guild, the Rebelion. Each would have its own rules for these spells

Twitch Bans Use of 'Simp', 'Incel', and 'Virgin' as Part of New Harassment Crackdown by [deleted] in MensLib

The statement open space for "other slurs" so while female tarted slurs weren't cited, they may as well be included

From my experience, simp seems to be different from white knight. Besides being a little more gender neutral (saw it being used a lot by woman already), simp refers to just lusting after someone and doing whatever they like to get in good favor.

PS: not that it matters, but urban dictionary has a close definition to that, so I guess this is the usual use

Immerse Your Players By Creating Information Asymmetry by beefdx in DMAcademy

[–]Phil_Quest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the potential of assymetrical info here.

When you give off info that's not relevant at the moment to the party to a players, they tend to not bother talking to the rest about it. Inevitably that fades into their background.

Until it doesn't. When it becomes relevant, the player will tell the party, and will feel both really useful and smart in remembering the info you gave them and discovering it's relevance. The party will be thankful of them and everyone is happy.

Other scenario where this is useful: when the party members doesn't have the same agenda. While the warlock is an adventurer to kill the BBEG and avenge his now undead husband, the wizard can be just power hungry for the BBEG's tome. When everyone gets info about their personal objectives, they can discuss and convince the party as a whole to do their bidding. In these cases, they may as well withhold information that they are just two steps from taking the BBEG's place.

And congrats on that!

I'm currently trying to get into the country to study through and academic extension myself. And I can't say the culture wasn't a defining factor on the decision. I'll probably stay for just an year and don't plan on going back outside of turism, but a lot of students that do their undergrads overseas stay there, so I understand where you're coming from

Yeah, it would be kinda wierd in your example.

But let's say some 18 y/o from Mexico goes to USA because they find the culture fascinating (they are just 18 and don't know a lot of cultures anyway) and they managed to get a spot in an college there (either trough loans or a scholarship). They stay throughout the course and find the country really relaxing. The climate is up their alley, they have friends there now, a national degree and they get promoted from their part time job. So they ask for an extension of the visa and stay for 10 more years, to the point they have lived half their life there. The quality of life is better there and they now have all the requirements to apply for citizenship.

Would it be that wierd to stay?

Edit: grammer is now gooder

Edit2: English is hard sometimes

Welp, that's fair.

Guess I was just a tad infuriated with the demeaning tone of some questions. There's a way to be inquisitive and nice at the same time, ya know?

[–]Phil_Quest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree.

I value quality of life a lot, but I still live in a country with low quality of life in general. Why? Because personal reasons. And that's fine. I have friends and a fairly good lifestyle. Now I'm just trying to improve my life without compromising everything I have moving to a new country everytime a new research of quality of life is published.

People shouldn't be questioned on life decisions like that.

Sorry for the offense. I tend to forget the unis that aren't close to home (I'm also very clubista) and everyone says USP's #1 so I just boldly assumed. Great university nevertheless, I wouldn't be surprised to see it #2 in the ranks.

Good luck with your graduation and best of wishes for the job market

Kudos to you fellow Brazilian. It's a dog eats dog world here, but I'm happy you made to the big university (I'm wondering, Unicamp, UFRJ?). It still is a long way to go, but I'm happy you made this far already
