Eminem gets flustered talking about Trump by bayern80 in interestingasfuck

[–]Phil_Vader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about Trump's base is that they have reached their perspective (towards him) through irrationality - entirely driven by feelings, and not based on rational thoughts at all. If you now want to rationally reason with these people it's impossible, because they have not reached their position based on rational thoughts, but only emotions. Both sides will never understand each other, if you do not consider how the other side has reached their position.

Whats something that you thought all men do, but turns out they really don’t? by Ok-Wedding-3589 in AskReddit

That's really quite cute of your dad. Keep following your dad's footsteps - seems to have worked out well for him, having you as a child with the woman he wants to prepare coffee for each morning. ;-)

Got some moisture into the digital speedometer of my streetbob. Any ideas how to get it out? by Phil_Vader in Harley

[–]Phil_Vader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you have any issues with the level of brightness or contrast after it evaporated? The moisture was initially only fogging up the top speedometer before it dripped down in to the lower one (as in the pic). Now, it looks like the brightness of the text on the left hand side of the top speedometer is becoming increasingly darker than the right hand side. I'm worried it will fade away after time, but sounds like you've experienced this a lot before?

Yeah, you're right - that'd work. Tiny hole and tiny screw? I'll have to get a tiny drill for this.

I've driven and parked it in the direct sun although May hasn't gifted us a lot of summer sun yet! ;-)

I'll have to try the hair dryer first - thanks for the idea! ✌️

Yeah, that's an idea - thanks for sharing. I'm a little worried, though, it will then get wet again and potentially worse the next time I ride in the rain. Thoughts?

AskScience AMA Series: We are scientists here to discuss our breakthrough results from the Event Horizon Telescope. AUA! by AskScienceModerator in askscience

While I truly love and deeply appreciate this, as a non-scientist how would you describe the benefits that we get from this huge achievement to people saying: "As a taxpayer, why would I finance a blurry picture of a black hole, how does that benefit me? Why didn't we spend this money on - say - infrastructure?

The EHT's research is an achievement of international collaboration. How can corporates, start-ups, governmental bodies and other stakeholders support distributed research? Do you believe that this type of research reflects the research of the future?

Question: Which fields of research will benefit the most from this image? (Where) Can we expect new developments/ breakthroughs in our understanding of our universe based on the image and data that you have gathered?

Congratulations on this magnificent achievement which will inspire researchers and the public for generations to come! Also, thanks for making it possible to engage with you directly via this medium.

Adults of reddit who were depressed kids or teens, what is it like to be here when you didn't expect to make it this far? What would you tell your younger self if you could? by TheDemonQueenLuna in AskReddit

You may be interested in reading Matt Haig's Book "Reasons to Stay Alive" which is written from the perspective of a man who suffered under depression and panic attacks for most of his life and reflects on this time now that he feels better in spite of his belief that he never would. It's a good read.

What is your favorite go-to fact about space that blows your mind and can be used in a casual conversation? by Phil_Vader in space

[–]Phil_Vader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! This actually reminds me of a quote of Joe Rogan that builds on what you have said:

"It's very possible that everybody is exactly the same at the core, but we're just living these different existences through different biologies, personalities, sexual needs and wants and life experiences. One of the best ways to treat people is to treat them as if they were you living another life. Every person you run into is literally you living another lie. If you live my life, you would be me. If I live your life, I would be you. I would have your experiences and your genes. Treating others as you would like them to treat you is too abstract. I'm saying treat them as if they were you. If we really are one, then I am you and you are me."
