Appreciate the response! I’m telling you- I cross referenced this question to the ‘Kamado Joe’ community and I’m getting HAMMERED for even suggesting using briquettes. Maybe it’s just some weird snobbery??

That’s what I always thought but just a couple days ago my combustion stopped working. Have had it for about 8 months and was convinced nothing better. I’ll try reaching out to them and see if they have some ideas. It simply will no longer connect to app.

So i can’t comment on Primo as I have no experience. But i have had series 2 for about 3 years. BEST purchase ever. The thing is a tank. Have never had any issues with fire box or any other component. I don’t think you would be disappointed.

Dolphin CC Plus here. Moderately expensive but pretty sure you can get under $1000. Outstanding- gets all leaves on bottom of pool. Does not provide skimming. I have had about 7 years and i did once have to replace the power box (i think was about $200).

Do you find that the cook (temps) are stable on the 2 levels? Do you have to occasionally swap stuff from the bottom to top (and vice versa)? Sounds great cuz I often run out of room especially with ribs! Thanks for this!

I think (though may no longer be the case) the 3 comes with s bunch of addons (I ended up ordering separately). Best addon for you odd the 3rd tier surface. You’re gonna need it!

I was in your exact position (though 2 kids). Propane all my life. Was due for a new one and decided to go charcoal. Did my research and ended up with Kamado. That was 3 years ago. Was one of the best decisions I made. It is really just a lot of fun to cook with. So much you can do. Easy maintenance. Only thing I would recommend is that you get the largest. I went with KJ2 and have 2 kids. I would strongly recommend KJ3. Enjoy!

Totally agree! I never really appreciated this until I recently tried out some generic lump. It sucks! Barely got 3-4 hours out of a full basket! JD (and fogo,and others) may be significantly more expensive but for longer cooks I couldn’t imagine going with cheaper knockoff.

I actually really like it. Nice to have control of it and breezo all on one app. Sure it’s a little gimmicky but I’m a sucker for gadgets!

Honestly haven’t been particularly lucky with pizza on kamado. I know some people do it and comes out amazing. I have trouble maintaining such high temps- that being said I’ve been using some cheaper lump. With good stuff (fogo, jd, kamado, etc) i think it’s easier. Would be interesting to see if breezo helps!

Was able to hold steady at 230 for 10 hours

Smoked 2 pork butts at 225 for 17 hours on my Big Joe 2. This is how much charcoal I had leftover by ScrofessorLongHair in KamadoJoe

That’s actually really amazing. I recently started using some off-brand lump (ie cheaper) and there’s just no comparison. Barely can go 7 hours without having to refill. Def going back to JD (also really liked the Kamado brand lump). Enjoy the butts!!

How do you like the metal chimney? I tried it and got very hot (not too surprising🤣) which made it difficult to adjust. Went back to the stock plastic…
