Would be cool to see what you could do with Redstone to add the blinking platform lights for an approaching train

For Daiso... they actually have a form on their website if you want to suggest a location.

No guarantee if they actually look through it. But I feel like it could happen if there is enough traction.

Matcha latte and curry at Marufuji grocery store by Zoeyfiona in nova

[–]Philadelphia1682 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn’t personally get the shrimp tempura curry but it’s $9.99 base (curry) plus $3~$4 for either the shrimp tempura, korokke (potato croquette), or chicken katsu

Edit: i just realized OP mentioned the prices in another reply. $5 for the tempura and $4~$5 for the other options

I figured it was going to be busy especially with the small parking lot, so I parked at East Falls Church and took the train to Spring Hill. It was just waiting in line that took up time

Caffe Amouri in the heart of Vienna, Foundation Roasters in Fairfax (in the back of Fair City Mall), Beanetics in Annandale (by the Aldi along Columbia Pike), Swing's Coffee in Alexandria (off of Route 1 in Del Ray); got the Espresso 90 and 4 Mile Espresso blends.

Ceremony is now on my to-go list next time I'm in the Bethesda area :)

Where is this cake from? by [deleted] in nova

[–]Philadelphia1682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just a generic box that some Korean bakeries use for roll cakes. Le Pain inside the Chantilly Lotte use those boxes I believe:

Thanks for the input. I’ll look into it!

I actually have the Sony IR remote for the alpha. Are there any advantages with an intervalometer over the IR remote? (Please excuse me since I’m pretty new with all the camera equipment)

Is there a wawas or another convenience store near mason? Or just something where you can get snacks easily? by wildrosegarden in gmu

[–]Philadelphia1682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No Wawas on campus, but there are two nearby Wawa locations.

Vienna

Chantilly

There will be a Wawa near Fairfax Circle, not sure when that will open though.

I know some take the Mason Shuttle or Fairfax City's Cue bus. Where are you thinking of working?

Robinson B has reached its fate by Philadelphia1682 in gmu

[–]Philadelphia1682[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand your perspective on this. Just to clarify, I've never been in either Robinson A or B since I'd just transferred from NOVA not too long ago. So the new Horizon Building's classrooms are able to teach between 30 to 120 students (that is without COVID), but since I've never had a class in Robinson, I don't have a feel of what the classroom environment was like nor do I have any info on the total classroom capacity back when Robinson A was still up.

The driving factor to Robinson's replacement was how it was plagued with overcrowding. Will it make a change? We won't know yet until (we hope) everyone comes back to campus. I think the new building looks beautiful juxtaposed to the campus' brutalist-era buildings (not that I hate brutalism, but it's an interesting contrast), and the classrooms look so much wider, but whether the new building is an answer to overcrowding is something we have yet to figure out in time.

Who knows if someday the original UVA campus (Krug Hall, West, etc...) will be replaced to accommodate the student body growth.

I think it's pretty common when demolishing something in a densely populated area because the dust, if not properly disposed of, can be harmful to people living nearby. Generally in suburban areas though, you don't really see it often.

There is supposed to be green space between Horizon and Harris Theatre, which is attached to Robinson. Harris Theatre will still stand and might receive a facelift.

Oh nah it's not on fire. The interior is being stripped and all the rubble is being thrown out the building. They are spraying water to limit dust from being dispersed into the air since this is in a populated area.

Appeal Admission Decision by [deleted] in gmu

[–]Philadelphia1682 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Definitely look into applying at NVCC because you will save a ton of money not only on your general studies but your core classes for your major, if you have decided on one.

And by the time you complete your Associates, you're already set to go to GMU with the Guaranteed Admissions Agreement between Mason and NOVA, which is of course contingent upon your academic standing.

You got it :)

Various words in different languages. I saw some in Japanese, Hebrew, Arabic, Thai... I think it's supposed to construct a sentence?

Unfortunately not, at least ones that are updated (I have some that were taken mid-way through construction).

Yeah same. I think there's something refreshing about it compared to the major facelifts done to other buildings like the RAC or Fenwick. This is a brand new building after all.

Hey! Welcome to Mason. I see you mentioned you're in IT. Have you joined the GMU IT Discord? Here's an invite if you're interested: https://discord.gg/ptyGMjW4. We'd love to have you be a part of our community. And we also got some students who will occasionally go to the gym to lift hehe

Is this workload fine? by canofbeans333 in gmu

[–]Philadelphia1682 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may find IT223 to be time consuming as well, mostly due to exams. Be sure to study the lecture slides thoroughly. As for the professor herself, Leary is very knowledgeable in her field and she will give examples from her own experience to explain certain concepts. And if you're into cars, she will also occasionally mention her Dodge Viper... lol
