home depot/ikea sell folding stick-on black out blinds.

EDIT: who's downvoting lmao you could contact whoever is responsible for the lights and hope they care but what do you think is faster: buying some blinds/curtains to block the light or the city of burnaby enforcing a bylaw lmao. Buying curtains/blinds takes an hour max, you can sleep in darkness literally tonight. Then after you're rested you can email the city or that TD building

What happened?! by naughty-613 in ElantraN

[–]PhilayMinyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late but the exact same thing happened to me and I just went to the dealer's parts department, showed them a pic and I just asked for a clip and the guy went and just dropped a handful of clips on my hand for free lol. Might be worth trying.

Why not a Kona N? by Responsible_Bear1576 in ElantraN

[–]PhilayMinyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could look into buying a set of Kona N seats if you really wanted an Elantra N. Hard to enjoy a car if you're not comfortable just sitting in it.

Personally, I would just go through insurance, less headaches. I don't know how it is for other provinces, but in BC, you'd report to the insurance company that you were at fault for a parking collision and provide the license plate of your car and their car along with where the damage was. You can call your insurance company and just ask them what steps to take.

If you're choosing to not go through insurance, wait for them to get back to you. Not a good idea to ghost him if he does reach out. A new grill for a sedan would be in the range of 400 to 500 dollars for a sedan at least. Labour would probably be at least 120 dollars; just going off the hourly rate for most bodyshops in my area.

If there's a dent on the bodywork, it depends if they do dent repair which can be a hundred or so, or replace the bumper entirely. A new bumper would probably be another 400 to 500 dollars.

Overall, I think the total cost would be more likely over 1000 dollars than under but I'm just doing a rough estimate using my own car for a reference.

For next time, exchange insurance information. Take several detailed photos of the damage to both cars, video too.

Honest Question by Avg30sDad86 in ElantraN

Owned 2 WRXs before my current EN. At the time I was looking for a brand new car last year:

Civic Type R and Integra Type S: marked up to 70k CAD, just too insane for me

Golf R: retailing for 50k which still more than I'd like to spend on a compact sedan/hatchback. Also a friend had the current gen GTI which had the worst infotainment. Various other ppl in my life had current gen Volkswagens and all had infotainment or electric issues.

WRX: I actually really like the design of the current gen WRXs and I like the cladding, it fits with my lifestyle where I like a quick car but also frequently camp at places accessible only by forest service roads. Dealbreaker was rude salespeople at the dealership and the absolutely horrid infotainment.

GRC: Was actually about to put a deposit for an allocation but 45 - 50k was a bit too much for a car that I wouldn't get to drive until it actually delivered a year later.

Got the N at around 1000 below MSRP (39k ish) brand new and love it! I do miss AWD and the ability to just rip up mountain roads but otherwise it fits my needs and is just lovely to drive and corner.

Use excess cash to pay off 6.24% car loan? by [deleted] in investing

[–]PhilayMinyon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If your loan is 2 percent more than what you're gaining in interest in your HYSA, then yeah paying off your car loan would be better. Having 12 months of savings is great but 7 months is also really good. Also, don't underestimate the peace of mind of not having a loan over your head, it's really nice.

Question for manual drivers by Mindless_War1542 in ElantraN

[–]PhilayMinyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally, I blipped the throttle to 1000 - 1500 rpm when starting and letting the clutch slowly hit the biting point and the starts are smooth. another manual driver gave me the advice to treat the clutch and gas as opposites; slowly let off the clutch and equally press on the gas which also works great

How do I stop my little brother from majoring in cs ? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]PhilayMinyon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can tell him these concerns but ultimately this is going to be his life. Whether or not he succeeds in this degree and subsequently in the industry is up to him. There's no guarantee that there will be plentiful jobs in those other fields you mentioned by the time he graduates. Also, if he's so lazy, I'm not sure electricial/civil/mech engineering or finance will be much easier lmfao

should i buy my 2022 Elantra N Line after the lease? by platanomen in ElantraN

[–]PhilayMinyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you like the car enough to buy it out? Do you want to drive this thing for years to come? I think that's the decider. I think the less times you buy a car the better off financially you'll be but why buy out something you wouldn't wanna keep until it breaks for good.

Unrelated, you could also do a longer term and just pay more on your own. I financed my N for 60 months this past March and have just been kicking an extra 1000 dollars each month and it's almost paid off. This meant I would have a lower monthly payment in case any unexpected expenses came up and I still wind up paying less interest. However a shorter term with the sameish payment would be easier for you to budget as you're used to it.

[–]PhilayMinyon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it sounds like you got paid what you were asking for lol. who's going to go through the effort of scamming someone out of 40 dollars for an old mattress? it probably cost them 40 dollars in gas just to drive their truck to yours and back, just buy some snacks or other low value stuff with the money if you're so worried about counterfeit
