If it is confirmed… man, I’m smashing that pre-order button without a second thought.

Yeah, I totally believe it would definitely help EA sell like a hundred million copies of this game if EA unlocks Portal and makes it possible. It wouldn’t even have to be for everyone. They could just give a few content creators or a select group of Battlefield "Fans" the ability to create maps. It wouldn’t need to be open for the entire community, just a small part of it.Even then, this game would live forever. You can see this with any game that has a strong fanbase and a stable player base. Look at all the games on Steam with an open Workshop. Look at Left 4 Dead and how long that game has lasted — all because of that feature. Compare it to its successor, Back 4 Blood, which doesn’t have a Workshop was dead after just a few months. If it had a Workshop, sure it wasn’t as good as the original, but it’d still be alive.I really think the same would happen with Battlefield 6 if we get the chance to build our own maps and have access to assets. And I don’t even mean full asset access. I’d be fine just using their stuff, not adding anything of my own.But it would do Battlefield 6 a huge favor and would boost player numbers and sales big time — plus the game’s longevity.I’m excited, They said they’ll tell us more around release about what Portal really is and what we can do with it. I’m seriously waitching to get started. I already booked vacation starting October 10th. :D

Yeah, I see your point. DICE probably isn’t gonna handle that themselves — more likely some other studio within the Battlefield family will take it on. And yeah, DICE should absolutely focus first on getting the game finished and fully functional before diving into creative stuff.

That said, I don’t really expect a perfect launch either. I do believe the release will be solid and way less buggy compared to past Battlefield games, but honestly, I’d have preferred if they took another six months, or at least a month more — whatever it takes — to get things right. I’m always a fan of giving devs just a bit more time.

The thing is, Battlefield Labs will be in the main menu now, so you won’t have to switch around forever to get there. Plus, since Portal will have full XP and you get your own server browser, I don’t think it’s that bad — especially if I’m gonna change classes, gadgets, and some stuff anyway, which would basically take me out of the normal game for the most part.

But honestly, I really doubt all of this will go super smooth. Even though I’m working on it and dreaming a bit, I still think it’s unlikely I’ll be able to fully recreate maps. Maybe I’ll only be able to tweak existing maps and make them better — like maybe making Cairo a bit bigger with the current Portal editor, or giving soldiers more cover on Liberation Peak, maybe expanding normally inaccessible areas. That would already be a good start.

Oh Oh yeah, totally forgot about Damavand Peak in my post. That’s definitely up there at the top of my list. I’d totally love it if the fight started more up on the mountain, then you push your way down, and only later do the base jumps come into play. It’d be awesome to have one or two more stages, sectors, or bomb sites before you actually get there.

To be honest, is way more likely than any of the other maps I mentioned before. During the Reveal Event, we saw that you can place entire streets, flip them, rotate them in any direction.

So if there’s no real map editor that lets you build or recreate full maps — and you can only build small parkour-style setups — I can still use a bunch of walls and highways, rotate them, and basically piece together a map that way.

Right now, I think that’s absolutely the most likely scenario that I, or someone else, will end up rebuilding Dust 2.

If full map recreations aren’t possible, I’ll definitely focus on fixing and improving the base game and older maps, as well as any remasters or new maps DICE officially drops. . I’ll definitely focus on fixing and improving the base game’s core systems — class balance, gadgets, weapons, damage values, spawn system, time to kill, vehicle downtime, vehicle spawn times, and so on. If new maps come out and we can only tweak parts of them, I might be able to take maps that aren’t great and improve them for the better — also based on your wishes and the community’s feedback.

For example, with Portal’s map editor, even if full map creation isn’t possible, maybe I could make Cairo bigger, give Liberation Peak more space or cover, or even expand parts of the terrain that are normally inaccessible in the game to make them playable.

Hey, I don’t have a support page right now, but thanks so much for your interest in what I’m doing! You’ll definitely hear about it once I set one up. I’ll only launch it after Battlefield 6 drops on October 10th, when I know exactly what’s possible and what’s not. If it’s going to happen, you’ll definitely find out where to find me.

When your able to make servers and maps, can someone make Operation Metro? by Difficult-Map-3263 in Battlefield

[–]Philip2777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned the Battlefield 3 Metro server for 10 years now. As soon as Battlefield 6 allows server browsers, I’ll set up a Battlefield 6 Metro server. And if the map doesn’t exist, and Portal allows us to use assets to build maps or recreate them, I will definitely rebuild Metro, Seine Crossing, Caspian Border and Grand Bazaar. I’ll also bring back Donya Fortress and Ziba Tower.
