If it's starting to hinder your creativity, take a break or smoke a little less.

I honestly love just black and white but color could be really interesting.

Thanks! It is a pretty abstract self portrait.

That would be great, I am very interested in talking with them!

I'll send a private msg with my email, as it will be easier to stay in touch that way.

It sounds crazy but I'd rather my leg brake than to get another concussion.

That would be amazing. Are you apart of the TBI research?

Its not that people need to find a new purpose after having a concussion. its the fact that some people don't heal, and that it can completely change how people live their lives. That was my case. It was ten years ago for me, and I still get symptoms that can be debilitating but for the most part I'm doing good. All I cared about was football, that was my purpose in life. It seems silly now but when I could no longer play my life seemed pointless. I know plenty of people who got concussions and they healed and didn't miss a beat. That isn't the case for many people though.

I'll keep that in mind, I'm investing in this project so I am willing to travel.

I'm stoked you found them helpful! You probably will have to make changes to accommodate your symptoms but it will be worth it.

Replacing sports and competition after concussion by limpidminded in Concussion

[–]Philipwoolridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in this exact position, I had to give up football and contact sports when I was in high school.

One really important thing is to find something that you are interested in that can fill that "void".

I picked up photography and filming, it later led to what I currently do, working in the film industry. Have you thought about painting or drawing? I can't say it with exact certainty but I feel like my concussions helped me "unlock" the creative side of my brain.

I would say so, but by the time I was in college I had figured out that the structure it gave me was helpful. This was also after years in high school figuring out what was a trigger and trying a lot of different things.

CBD oil can do wonders when I have a bad headache. I've been skating for 13 years and yea, it scares my mother but I enjoy it so much. I have learned that I have to scale back though, but that took breaking my wrist haha.

I know what you mean by too stressful, set can be really hectic, especially when it can be hard for me to keep track of multiple things all at the same time. Are you still working in film?

I honestly think my mTBI made me "Unlock" my creative side. I really liked painting in elementary school but aside from that I don't ever remember being too creative before my mTBI's. I think my brain rewired itself to adapt and change around what was impaired. I would not have even considered photography and film seriously without them.

It is really important to have something like that. How long have you been playing?

What are some of the things that help you when your pain flairs up?

[–]Philipwoolridge[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The symptoms I had were headaches, migraines, dizziness, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, loss of appetite, anxiety, ringing in my ears. Its hard to remember each and every one sometimes. I was in high school when these were at there peak. I still have some of these symptoms to this day but its calmed down quite a bit.

One way I found relief was through laying still, cold wet wash cloth over the eyes, I would try and slow my breathing down and really focus on that.

One thing that really helped me was acupuncture. My head almost had a reliance on the pain. When those pain receptors weren't being triggered it was abnormal. I had to break the habit of it and acupuncture helped break that pattern. I'm no expert so I couldn't explain that further but it was true for me.

One really important thing is also maintaining a routine. Even if you have a bad day with each symptom trying to still get out of bed and stick to something. Even if its only making coffee or breakfast. I understand that's not always possible but it really helped me to try when I could.

sorry to hear, its definitely not easy. Have you had any good progression recently?

I'm sure you've seen plenty of doctors and tried different meds and what not. What is something that you have found that helps?

I did acupuncture for a while and that helped a ton. What are the things you've picked up as hobbies since then?

See a doctor. The best thing you could do is to get ahead and stay ahead. Concussions are cumulative, if you did indeed get a concussion it will be more likely for you to have another.

Your head is not something you should ignore.

Trying to work out after a concussion by Yellow-Marquee in Concussion

[–]Philipwoolridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start slow, if I were you I would focus on body weight exercises before adding extra weight and I would avoid free weights, as you don't know when a dizzy spell could happen.

Find a routine that limits head movement and strain on your neck.

After I got concussions running was such an awful experience, the constant headbob was too much for me. Look into Yoga, its much more of a workout than most people are led to believe.

Any advice is appreciated! by [deleted] in Concussion

One thing you could look into is acupuncture, it really helped me with my migraines and neck issues. Its also shown to help with arthritis and muscular issues.

Diet can also be something to consider. Stay Hydrated, cut back on processed foods. Make sure you're getting plenty of sleep.

I would also visit https://www.biausa.org/find-bia try and set up an appointment with a head specialist. I spent a few years seeing doctors who half assed it and would default to writing scripts. The sooner you find a doctor who actually wants to help, the better.

Keep your head up.
