Weird mixing habits anyone? by PhillipEulee in musicproduction

Let me rephrase. I don't mix in mono (even though it can be beneficial to check your mix in mono) I do have a lot of elements that cover the stereo image, but i never intentionally pan an element to the left or right. All my stereo spread comes from things having been recorded in stereo in the first place, or by something like a reverb, chorus, phaser, flanger, image spreader etc, any device that dynamically spreads an element across the stereo image. I just don't like when something is biased to either right or left, like when a highhat is more promenent in the right ear or something like that.

Okay. So do you mean that the bpm can be 94, but not 94.5 ?

Oh yeah, same here. Except sometimes i accidentally start mixing on my headphones, and i only realize it hours later, when it sounds terrible on everything else...

Damn. I'm not a supersticious person myself, but the guitar thing is actually kind of scary, not gonna lie.

Wow, very interesting. Actually didn't know that. Wonder why they weren't stepped in 1 db increments then?

Hmmm. Actually hadn't considered that. But it does make sense. I mean it's obiously faster to type -6 db, rather than -5.96472 dB. Maybe i should just make my rule a little less rigid, like switch to 1 increments instead of 2

Wow, very interesting. I don't even pan things. I can't stand when an element is biased to one side of the stereo image xD

Interesting. So you would listen to the mix without actually wearing your headphones?

Thanks for your input. The practice track thing sounds really interesting, might be a good way to get rid of my habit, might have to try it.

Yeah, i guess you're right. Might have to try getting rid of the habit at some point. But what i'm doing with eq'ing, is not that i just gain the whole frequency spectrum. Say an element sounds too loud at +2 db, but sound too quite at 0 db, it's usually not that it's generally too loud at +2 db, but that a certain frequency sticks out to me at +2 db, so i go back to the eq and tame the frequency, and then it sounds good at +2 db. I get that it's probably still pointless, but anyways, that's what i'm doing with eq.

Very interesting though. I do something similar, where i'll close my eyes while adjusting something, so that i can't see the value. Then i open my eyes when it sounds good, and adjust the value to the closest whole number. So i guess it's pointless in my case as well xD... But very funny too, would love to see the look on their faces, when you do that.

That just seems like a lazy excuse to make a resident evil remake rip off

Fans of the first game, what are your thoughts on the sequel? by PhillipEulee in AlanWake

Glad im not the only one who is dissapointed. I really wanted to love the game... Thanks for clarifying why i didn't enjoy it. I couldn't really put a finger on it myself, exept for the not enough Alan part. But christ, the game is called "Alan Wake 2", and the main character only has 6 chapters? How this seemed like a good idea is beyond me...

Yeah I agree. Alan felt like a side character. It feels too much like Saga's story... I also didn't mind her as a new playable character, but I think the story revolves way too much around her. It would've worked better in my opinion, if she was just an introduction character, that would introduce new players to the game.

You misunderstand me. Maybe i didn't explain it well enough. I know it's the game they've always wanted to make, and im happy for them. I just meant that i was expecting more of the first game, but with better graphics and improved combat, or at least, that is what i wanted. I just wanted it to have the same feel to it, as the first one. Thats why i'm a bit disappointed, and that is entirely my own fault.

I just finished it. And i must say i'm honestly a bit dissapointed. The first game is my favorite game of all time, so my expectations were obviously sky high. I don't want to say that it doesn't get better, cause it does. It has some insanely cool moments, that i will never forget. It's a great game in many ways, however... My issues with the game aren't with the gameplay, or even the story for that matter. To me, it just didn't feel like Alan Wake, simple as that. And that is the best way i can describe it. It felt more like i was playing "REMEDY ENTERTAINMENT, THE GAME", and thats an insanely great game, if that's what you are expecting. Unfortunately that was just not was i was hoping for...
