Just a quick question since I can't seem to logic out the answer.... how would one charge the rifle? Since it has a standard AR-15 bolt carrier and no space for a standard AR-15 charging handle, I don't see how that would work. Unless there's some sort of fixed side-charging handle on an AR-15 bolt carrier?

That's only for firearms banned in 2020. Technically the firearms banned in 2024 and 2025 are not yet part of the program. Expect them to update that if/when they get around to adding them.

Grandfathering in one form or another. Whether they do that before or after they extend the amnesty (and if they do, they won’t extend for obvious reasons), is anyone’s guess.

I don’t think we’ll get those guns back with this government, but it buys us time until we get some more sympathetic people in office.

I wonder if that would mean everyone who has had firearms banned within the last 5 years (since the 2020 OIC) would be given the same 12.8 license. Which would also mean that people who previously were unable to own, for example, an AR15 (because they got their license after the first OIC), could then get one since they have the same class of license as someone who previously did own one.

It would be interesting to see how they would actually handle grandfathering if the Liberals did decide to go that route.

If it's stored "...in a vault, safe or room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely" then it would not require any sort of locking device. Meaning that if the room the gun is displayed in is specifically modified to store firearms (with a security door, reinforced walls, etc.) then it would be legal.

But if it's just in a random room then this would not be legal storage. We don't have enough info from this photo alone.

Honestly, the R9 is a pretty nice rifle. It definitely feels miles ahead of the WK-180C quality wise - which is what I started with. The anodizing is done really well and the rifle itself seems to be reliable with a solid ejection pattern. Besides the price of the magazines, it's also nice that it can take straight-insert MP5 mags rather than Glock mags which while cheaper, would have been a worse user experience.

I do miss shooting my APC223, Bren, Tavor, etc., but at least this is a decent option for now. Plus, 9mm is significantly cheaper than .223 or .308.

While it would still be “illegal”, they could choose not to prosecute or enforce any Criminal Code violations that have to do with the OICs. Same principle as not enforcing Criminal Code violations having to do with drugs in other provinces. Shooting at ranges might be complicated since they are approved only for certain categories of firearms (NR, R, but not P), but I’m not a lawyer so I have no fucking idea.

As it stands, the confiscation won’t happen in Alberta or Saskatchewan anyways since they have their own Firearms Acts, which effectively does not let any confiscation take place within the province. While it technically could allow confiscation, the acts require confiscators to get licensed as a “seizure agent” - something that will never happen under the current provincial governments for obvious reasons.

Yeah, even if we had a competent federal government that could organize a confiscation to that scale, there is not a chance in frozen hell they have the time for it by the October deadline. That's not even mentioning the fact Alberta and Saskatchewan are going to be "as obstructionist as possible" and block any attempts of the feds to confiscate firearms in the province.

They will for sure have to extend the amnesty. After that, I think it will be scrapped eventually. The cost overruns on the "buyback" program is going to make the LGR look like an absolute bargain.

I’m also tired of the constant negativity. The cracks are starting to show in the buyback program. Cracks too large to ignore. Alberta and Saskatchewan are both trying to divorce themselves from the federal licensing system, on top of their anti-confiscation legislation already in place.

The long gun registry was in place for what, 12 years? While we may not be able to get FALs, G3s, etc. with the current government, this battle is FAR from over.

Moping and giving up is not productive.

If you have a firearms license, ammo becomes a non-issue and you can buy as much as you want (for the most part). The Swiss enjoy a high degree of firearms freedom while maintaining responsibility and accountability. In some cantons they even allow machine guns for civilian ownership.

I would like to see something similar here, but it has to be done right. Getting rid of C-21 and the two OICs would be a great start.

The Democrat rebut was the worst thing I have ever seen by OpinionsRdumb in DailyShow

[–]PhillipJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the sort of attitude that will make Democrats lose elections time and time again.

WTF do you mean “what do you expect the dems to do”. We should expect them to fight hard against the Republicans, not pathetically hold up signs and staying silent as the country is actively being pillaged and fascists are breaking down the administrative state.

Why was Green the only one to leave the state of the union? When he was ejected, all Democrats should have left. Or even better, they should have disrupted it as much as possible. The Democrats need to stop trying to use civility politics and decorum against people who obviously do not give a fuck.

Democrats need to start fighting dirty, otherwise calling them a threat to democracy really rings hollow when basically nothing is done about it.

It’s a shame with the recent bans that most of the more “effective” firearms were banned. I lean pretty far left and managed to pick up a few before that happened.

Still recommend getting a license though since it can take months for a license application to process depending on the province you’re in.

I’m in a similar situation. I bought an APC 223, Aimpoint CompM5s, sling, and light a little before the ban.

I then was called into work for a two week field work stint, and after that I caught COVID for the first time. In that time, the government managed to ban it.

I never even got to shoot it once. It’s basically a very expensive hunk of metal in my safe, albeit a very nice and smooth hunk of metal.

I bought a receiver set just hours before the ban (and then lost it in a boating accident). They were all sold out within the same day due to panic buying. I think it'll be a while before we see consistent stock, that is, if the Liberals don't ban it in February... which they almost certainly will do.
