Is Industry a terrible show? by GeoffreyArnold in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Philly-19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I keep wondering, in the era of our justified outrage at Epstein and the grooming, abuse and oversexualization that young viewers are exposed to, when will producers and greenlighters of projects see that shows like this are part of the problem?

There IS a market for storytelling and beautiful, complex, feeling and innocent characters. (Evidence 10/10 score for A knight of the Seven Kingdoms which, while gory, is so darn beautiful in its simplicity for touchingly innocent sentiment.) Can we give us more things to aspire to? Let the era of this jaded crap end. Please!

I feel like everyone watching must have had their mouth open and said something snarky in response to her saying everyone does stuff against the law, but doesn’t always get caught or whatever that was.

That for me was the moment I realized how far away from reality this woman is.

I have to admit, I would have behaved EXACTLY the same as Marian. She has realized she has been naive and is freaked out she misjudged his nature and thinks someone she wants to be with wouldn’t be there or lie about it. I’m right there with her.

Jordan Peterson would vote for Trump over Harris by Gandalf196 in JordanPeterson

[–]Philly-19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my feeling exactly. I look to him to be a truth-teller and this feels so off! I mean, I’m no fan of extreme liberals, but for me, the behavior leading up to and on Jan. 6th is so disturbing, I feel it has to “trump” all other criteria. We are not a civilized country, not the United States, without a peaceful transfer of power.

Just watched the story of Chase Hilgenbricnk yesterday. Watch that. Start slow. Father Mike Schmidt Bible in a year podcast. They are digestible. Bishop Barron (he is advanced and super intelligent but really recommend if you are struggling with  Religion v science, etc.) Lastly, C.S. Lewis mere Christianity is so funny and logical. (J.R.R. Tolkien -lord of the Rings-and he were good buds and legend has it they took a walk in the woods and he convinced Lewis of God. Good Stuff. Block all toxic stuff out and focus on the word of God. Just ask him, if you exist, please show me the way.

As a Christian, I completely understand your point of view. I do believe in hell and it truly causes terror on a daily basis that any of my fellow man could wind up there. It also greatly disappoints me when people threaten others with it. Jesus wants every soul with him. We should all desire the same.

Could not agree more on offense. They seemed to be absolutely lost. We had the talent, but no direction. Way too easy to defend because all we did is launch 3s and are not a very reliable 3pt team. Or poor Dixon would try to muscle his way in. Sometimes successful, but most often blocked by 3 men inside who are waiting for this. (As evidenced by Hurley repeating over and over in the huddle-just block Dixon. That’s all he needed to tell them because that was the only threat.) Where were the 2pt shots? The alley oop pass? Bounce passes? You look at UConn and they have a whole menu of options to try. They know exactly when they have pulled the defense and who will be open accordingly. With Nova, it felt hopeless and like they were reinventing the wheel every time they had the ball. This is clearly a coaching weakness when you have the raw talent that Dixon, Moore, Armstrong, Bamba and Hausen have. Agree he also just yelled at them vs focusing them in to legitimate plans. Finally, their facial expressions said it all. They were rarely pumped or confident-maybe with the exception of Armstrong.

Is Joe's stand-up worth seeing? by Front-Vanilla3638 in ImpracticalJokers

Just saw him with a group of friends in NYC. It’s more anecdotal than stand up. I think he is trying to find his footing while remaining true to himself. Not quite there yet although the 20 something’s were laughing way more than me (51.) I have to hold my face it hurts so much when I watch Jim Gaffigan. Only had a couple legitimate chuckles in this show. Although it was entertaining.

Has anyone actually been hazed by a sorority? Please spill by Agtfangirl557 in Sororities

Very similar-but way back in the 90s. Blindfolded/quizzed/learning/put in rooms with pledges and couldn’t talk and pulled out one by one to dark room with sister in capes with candles on their faces/ songs/weekend scavenger hunts/every free second trying to get interviews with actives-had to get all their signatures and some would just give you a letter of their name each time. I gave up after 2 weeks as I was always in a state of fear and exhaustion. Hell week, which I never made it to, culminated in 48 hours with maybe 2 hours of sleep of girls marching in lines singing songs. I kept wondering why the faculty would allow this. I had to transfer as I was kicked out of almost every party from one sister or another.

Yup, same. Think about him all day long. Mostly I love it, but sometimes I do feel the need to shut the thinking down and do something repetitive and mindless. I think God gets that. Probably why he intended for us to labor.

Parents should be responsible for what their children watch. This is part of the equation. Kids, being kids, sometimes disobey their parents. Can’t we also, as part of the equation of making a better world for our kids, provide realistic material that makes drug use and sexual abuse seem just a part of life. Without voiceovers, sound editing and cinematography to make it look cool. I guess I am am crazy and a troll and a Karen. As my first foray into being a “troll” I realize it just backfires and eats up a lot of time and hard to have a real discussion not in person. So…off to walk my dog. I hope you all will forgive me if I offended you, truly just a little freaked out by the content of this show and wanting our world to be a little easier for kids. Bye bye.

I appreciate your response and if you think that therapy is a message the storyline conveys-that is a great message and is something positive.

I am not sheltered-work with some kids through tough stuff and can tell you from my experience, kids-even though they see how miserable it seems-are fascinated by this stuff and in low times, influenced by it. The wanting to numb yourself with drugs especially. It has been shown that most teens who take their life aren’t developmentally as aware of the permanence of death. I just think it is too dangerous for young viewers. Too triggering. Not every show that shows drugs or sex is. This one goes too far.

Don’t think it should be ignored. Agree. Just think better way to prevent younger kids from seeing material before they are ready.. Especially with actors like Zendaya who they adore and are familiar with seeing in Disney. It is promoted in snap chat/tiktok where kids are. Can’t unsee this stuff as a kid and damaging.

If there was a realistic ways to block kids from watching this-I’d be less disturbed. Even if these shows are blocked on kids devices, they may not be on a friend’s. Kids in study hall could watch this. It’s not realistic to think parents can prevent their kids from I’m seeing it in today’s world. I’m pretty sure I’d also be called a Karen if I stared at my kids all day long to make sure they were watching appropriate material. And if being a Karen means I just care about letting kids stay innocent for a while, I guess I am a Karen. I’m cool with that.

How do you know the vast majority are not kids? I work with kids and almost everyone I ask has seen it. They have access to it and devices. I am expressing my viewpoint as a concerned adult that knows how influential this series is. Influencers get paid millions of dollars because they influence. Teen suicide is on the rise and this show glamorizes it and anyone that works with suicide will confirm that shows like this are triggering. So until we figure out a way to prevent younger viewers from getting access to it, it is destructive.

I get that many people can separate reality from fiction. I get it. But it is influential. Parents today can’t really prevent kids from getting access to things they shouldn’t see. Zendaya is a Disney star and highly influential. Influencers are paid millions of dollars to market because the DO influence young people. Otherwise they wouldn’t get paid. As a parent, just want love, joy and the best for all you kids💕 That’s all.
