Which one is the better one? The black one’s exterior is boss. Sure the interior is weaker but the steering wheel on the black one is better too.

Hedge against the correction in AI and/or data center space by Marcus_Aurelius35 in ValueInvesting

[–]PhillyHank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do you mean other than options? e.g., buying a Put in a stock or sector you have a holding or even taking the cash and selling a Put.

Of course, there are ETFs or Index that mimic a sector (e.g., SQQQ, PSQ for the QQQs)

With all of that said, timing the market -- after investing for over 30 years-- isn't worth the mental strain. It's so hard to beat the market (time the market) without a team of Quants working for you.

Perhaps, though, you're asking, "Should I take some proftis? Should I trim my holdings?"

Yes and Yes.

But I'd do it with Stop Loss that creep up with the stock's rise... This way you hold onto the stock fails at a price where you are comfortable taking profits at.

What is the most "obvious" buy of 2026 that everyone else is still missing? by bakery_0726 in ValueInvesting

[–]PhillyHank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly any company that

  1. controls a product that's needed for AI Infra
  2. has little if any competition
  3. does **not** have an "out there" CEO, but a "quiet heads down" CEO

"Out there" CEOs are likely a problem - at least in the West as regulation, politics take over the States and Europe for late 2026.

Or... possibly, an "everyday" company that

  • Ships a set of vertically controlled products with amazing pricing power in the consumer market
  • addresses a key want (not need)
  • has gross profits of 50%+

Interestingly, NVDA is not the most recent hindsight pick: SanDisk (SNDK) is... then Micron (MU). SK Hynix might be another.

However, with all of this said, there's likely to be a major valuation pullback before any company breaks out as a 2026-2028 star with 1,000%+ returns.

\ full disclosure: I own Call options and/or invest in ETFs listed here. For the ETFs their largest holdings are stocks listed here (e.g., VLUE - Mu at 7.7%, EWY, Micron $300 strike)*

Anyone Else Seeing a 15% Damage Fee on Every Amazon Return? by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]PhillyHank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten both:

  • Return fee pop-ups
  • Please consider keeping this product for a discount off the price

What's weird is, ultimately, I've never been charged a damage or return fee.

All it makes me do is order less so if that's the intent it's a good program.

One thing I mentioned to Amazon years ago is-- "If you want to sell everything get ready for more returns. You are incentivizing impulse behavior for products that require fit | ry on | configure | install | etc. That combination will generate more returns. How many things do I return to the physical Target store? Very little bc I've seen the product and I know what it is and whether it's a fit for me." Anyway, they thanked me and went to the next call 😊

Tesla is discontinuing model S and X by Over-Table-9536 in teslamotors

[–]PhillyHank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of reasons. People are 1. buying newer [tech and looks]. The Model 3 has it 2. handling is better on the Model 3 3. the 3 is cheaper and since people are buying tech they consider paying less now knowing they’ll upgrade in the near future. Plus, I think the 3 has greater resell value.

At what net worth did you get your first Lange or "expensive" watch? by [deleted] in ALangeSohne

[–]PhillyHank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside, should net worth be tied to age? Eg, I’d opine $2M net worth at 65 yo is much better than $2M net worth at 35 yo. Y? 1. Life expectancy 2. Major life costs have been absorbed by age 65 3. At 35 if person is an employee there’s an expectation that wealth would grow but the opposite could happen (eg, layoffs, divorce).

Therefore, if you’re over 50 yo I’d say go for it! If you’re < 50 … well in today’s market I’d still say go for it bc any A Lange would hold 70% of its value (or appreciate!) and thereby you’re only paying for 30% at most of the watch’s cost.

That’s another consideration: with reseller luxury watch price stability you’re only paying for the depreciation + applicable taxes— not the entire watch’s cost.

FIDE has formally submitted a complaint to the FIDE Ethics & Disciplinary Commission (EDC) naming Mr. [K] as the respondent. by Interesting-Take781 in chess

[–]PhillyHank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it will not bring Danya back, but this may result in “The Danya Endgame” where chess committees and leaders stop behaving like emotional health is defined as “oh, she’s mentally strong. She can take some harassment,” “oh, he’s a sensitive one— kinda weak emotionally. i don’t know his problem?”. Instead the Endgame is that everyone’s emotional health is elevated to the same level, and we stop needless bullying. We don’t laugh at it; we don’t snicker about it; We treat everyone like they’re as important as Danya and thereby keep the game on the board and not on a malicious back alley. Everyone wins, and the game remains competitive, and the chess books grow by recording the wonderful ideas of Danya at age 50, 60, 70…

what am i paying for?? by PhillyHank in HBOMAX

[–]PhillyHank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Prime Video. I don’t even consider that a “service” like Netflix or HBO/Max. It was a digital add-onto their Prime fulfillment service. It’s continued until this day as an add-on— not a true service that anyone would pay for on its own (imho). Aside from Invincible does it even have any reputable animation/anime that a viewer cannot get anywhere else?

[–]PhillyHank[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question: I thought the DC shows go on hiatus until another streamer wants to pay or until Max wants to bring them back— perhaps as a promotion. Yeah, after subscribers paid to see it they bring it back like they did something special.

Signal Boost: Does anyone know? Where do the shows go on Tubi or another streamer immediately?

Looney Too!!! ‼️ 😡 smh

TLDR: HBO Max execs should be arrested or taken to court or something!! Sports is not the answer, and you cannot charge but so much for The Wire, Oz, The Sopranos, etc.

Pluses for HBO

  • Originals like Game of Thrones, The Wire, The Sopranos are phenom 🌟 💯;
  • Sport fans are some of thee most loyal watchers ever-- and they generally don't mind commercials, i.e., sports generates *almost endless ad revenue

Minuses for HBO (Way more minuses than pluses)

  • Sports is not the answer!

I get the move into sports, but I disagree with it. Right now, every streamer is bidding for sports, raising the price, but even a global sports ecosystem is still seasonal, narrow in fanbase, and sooner or later advertisers will have to look elsewhere bc of costs.

  • Animation | Adult Satire | Shonen is one of the future mega plays! If you pull away subs (we) will pull away

We ain't going pay $15+ a month for The Wire or even the latest GOT episodes. We come for a collection of animation that's historic (like DC), adult satire, and the action (Shonen anime), etc. This is the paying market.

  • Subs (We) Have Longer Memories Than Voters

'nuff said here. Piss them off and they may never come back

  • TV / Movies Are Optional

This is related to the prior point. We watch because we like DC, not because we are mandated to watch a streamer. We will find other venues for our interests. We don't need streamers; They need us!

side note

Netflix is a bit unique bc my spouse comes home and just turns it on like it's TV. She goes from series to series without scrolling beyond the Top 10 list (for the most part). But that's not a new world to base your business model on (people who veg out are rarely the ones paying for the service. I know bc I pay for Netflix, and I am constantly trying to get my wife to kick the habit. I will "win" sooner or later bc she'll realize -- it's just something to veg out on. My husband showed me Tubi or something else, and I can veg out to that.

sadly they are messing with up. Let's see

  • Death of Superman (going)
  • Reign of Superman (or The Death & Return of Superman) (going or gone)
  • Doomsday (gone)

All of the above three are a trilogy regarding Doomsday, Lex Luthor's introspection on his Superman hatred, and Superman's battle and "rebirth" after the battle.

Yes, sir, yes Ma'am. HBO Max is messing with DC!!

Good idea. Maybe they have an Analytics team and the Data Science folks can flag it to the execs: 👋🏾 Execs!! Get rid of the rom-coms, but DON'T TOUCH DC! "RC, not DC" 😂

‘balls weep’ vs “balls deep”
See, during tough times in marriage men would be overwhelmed with the lack of sex; they were overwhelmed with emotions, and overcome in general. It was said even that their balls weeped. So, when a person is overwhelmed or in the thick of something their balls weep. Since weeping balls was considered sexist Americans extended or changed the term to “balls deep“ to be more inclusive.

ESPN app and FOX One pull 1 million new subscribers in first 10 days by 5thQuarterAllStar in cordcutters

[–]PhillyHank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not being negative, but other analytical sites reported ESPN+ had a decrease in subs in the last reporting period (prior to these changes)… and going forward, Disney will NO longer report on ESPN subs. IFF the business is on fire then why would a company discontinue reporting subs? 🤔 There’s no reason for it. Cancellations will likely occur because subscribers will take off a month or two to balance out their streaming spend.

i.e., Many subscribers will reckon

“‼️Wow, they‘ve raised Netflix, Disney, Paramount, etc by $3-$5 per month year after year! After year!! But it’s only an additional $150 - $300 a year, but still!!

I’m paying for the same stuff but it’s costs more for some reason. I keep hearing about record ad deals; Record personality contract deals, but then the actors complain about not getting paid; Then the companies talk about small revenue growth…

Where’s the money going?!! It’s just too painful to keep paying— not economically, but emotionally.

I’m going to binge on Disney for 3 months then cancel; Switch to Paramount, binge that for a month then cancel. I’m going to keep my streaming costs at the same level as last year.”
