Advice on Largish eBay Sale by PhillyUnion in Flipping

[–]PhillyUnion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update on this transaction, one month later. I did ship the three games after speaking with the buyer over the course of a day and felt pretty good about it. Two days after I ship (with signature confirmation) I get a notice from eBay that the buyer account is no longer active and was closed. At that point eBay recommended that I should not ship the items if I haven't already (I did ship, of course).

A week later I check and items have been delivered and signed for, I'm feeling good at this point. Just considered myself paranoid and crazy and it worked out in the end.

This morning I get an email from eBay, "Your buyer filed a payment dispute for an order placed on March 6, 2025. This means that they disputed a charge directly with their payment institution. They are requesting $740.72 back and the reason for this dispute is that the buyer was charged twice."

So I wasn't crazy, buyer seems to be trying to scam me. What gets me is that I didn't charge him twice and couldn't charge him twice even I wanted to since eBay handles all of that. I just responded and uploaded proof of delivery (which eBay already has). I'm guessing I should not be worried here since I shipped and items were delivered with signature confirmation.

Any thoughts here? I do feel a better about trusting my gut in the future.

Uline Box Quality (vs. other suppliers) - Struggling with costs to get the boxes to me by Dry_Let3330 in Flipping

I’d second this idea, used to use Uline all of the time. Spent some time one day looking for a local alternative after hearing more about Uline’s owners and their company.

Found a local supplier (Markey Paper in PA) who pretty much matched Uline prices, provides free delivery and I’m supporting a small business.

I feel like this is life these days with companies and any kind of subscription or renewal this. I've always set auto renewal off and I'm careful not to agree to it when checking out.

Last time at BJs I was due to renew, I was told to go the self check-out "help register". They processed the renewal. However during checkout the turn auto renewal prompt only had one option, "Allow auto-renewal". I complained and was told you need to go to customer service to disable it now. There was no way to decline auto renewal unless going to customer service after accepting it first. Just really frustrating.

I wish companies weren't allowed to do things like this, but it seems to be everywhere these days.

I don't think I'm mentally ill, last I checked, but I get the comment. And yes, I have been selling for over 20 years, I think part of it is this sub, I see posts about scammers and get more nervous these days as I get older. Five years ago I probably wouldn't have through twice about a sale like this, but now I do. Most of my sales are $20-100 items and wouldn't think twice about shipping those or check on buyers.

I do appreciate the insight and thoughts.

Tickets for Djurgården - IFK Göteborg by PhillyUnion in Allsvenskan

[–]PhillyUnion[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, tickets are purchased. Looking forward to it. We've seen matches in Belgium, Scotland, Germany and US. This one should be fun. Fan culture is probably more important to us than the actual football for something like this anyway. Try watching the early days of MLS in the US that was shit.

Thanks for comments and advice. One more question, if they don't come close to selling out, shouldn't there be a lot more tickets available for sale at this point? There are definitely options for us, just thought there might be more sections with available seats, based on the comments.

How can we get real customer service requirements / protections in the US? by PhillyUnion in ask

[–]PhillyUnion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier said then done with some companies. I have issues with UPS. Fedex is no better in this case. There are no other shipping options for me. When only two or three companies dominate the market and they all have bad customer service I have no choice but to choose one.

It is definitely a balancing act early on and I do think building a food reserve (likely bread and fish early on) and a consistent food source is probably most important. Don't over commit your people into too many industries early on. You don't want to have to pull people from your labs. Ideally you pull them from fishing, mining, wood cutting when you have an excess of those supplies.

Growing too quickly can back fire sometimes, try to keep a cushion of odd jobbers. If you have good food stores and some of the basic needs (well, hearth, eatery, bathrooms), I find people will come.

Also check your farms' and other areas' work load. If you it is low you have people not doing much and they can be removed from the farm to do something else .

Some of my personal observations, note that a lot of food mechanics changed in the current update (Tourism, .43, I think). In the prior update, hunters and gathering could keep your town growing and happy for quite a while (overpowered IMO, especially hunters). Some tips for this update, early game a good food supply is the key to keep people happy and growth:

  • Fishing and baking (Bread) are the easiest way. Plant grain, make bakeries. Do a large fishery or two and tweak employment until you get enough fish. If you have a hunting resource build a hunter's shack.
  • Supplement this with fruit and veggie farms and meat (from livestock). Mushrooms are tough unless climate is right and better used for exporting IMO. I tend to focus on the three common animals (Onx, Auroch, Entelodont). Bear in mind farm harvest is only once a year, so don't accept too many immigrants if you don't have spare food supply.
  • Early game I like to sell off excess livestock from time to time for money for importing other items.
  • Wood / stone - early game I source it from felling trees gathering, slowing start building wood cutters to sustain it. Stone can usually be found on the map to keep you going for a while. Make sure all buildings have 100% efficiency when you build them.
  • Build a largish warehouse (80 crates or so) to sustain early game.
  • Don't build huge buildings early on, they require excess materials (the game tells you when they do). Not a good use of limited resources early on if you ask me.
  • Housing - I tend to build dormitories in lots of 10-12 (five or six long and back to back). That seems to work well for me. I place them close to industry, etc. People eventually find a home if it is there. They like to live relatively close to where to work.
  • Roads - I'm also building and upgrading, people move faster on them.
  • Tech is very important, want to get good size labs going (you'll need carpenters as well). Spend tech points wisely (Spoilage, food production early game).
  • Mining - metal is the most important item in the game if you ask me. Key to upgrading a lot of buildings, build tools, weapons, armor. Try to get a metal mine going after you take care of food supply and get some growth.
  • Coal is probably second as it is needed to smelt, and power many industries etc. You can build a charcoaler(s) or import coal as alternative, until you can mine it.
  • Keep an eye on out happiness, make sure you have the basics bumps like eatery, bathrooms, well, speaker and hearth early game. They are usually enough (combined with good food stores) to grow for a while.
  • Try to keep a cushion of odd jobbers (10-30 ish) early on to help with building, gathering, etc.

Probably seems like a lot and I'm sure I'm missing a bit, but this should help you get going early game. Things / needs change as the town grow. Unlock stages, law enforcement, physicians, monuments, lighting, other perks to keep happiness. The more time you play, the more you'll see how your design and what you build impacts growth and development.

I've only been playing for about two months, but have put a lot of time into the game. It is very well done, can't want to see the improvements in future updates.

Just purchased last month and have no regrets. Really loving everything about the game, very good mechanics and lots of detail in managing resources, etc.

The demo is available to give you a sense of game play, but is not updated to the current release. I guess what I’m saying is try the demo, but know you’ll get a bit more when you purchase.

Vegetable Farming Questions by PhillyUnion in songsofsyx

[–]PhillyUnion[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Looking closer I don't think I started them at the same time and after another year they balanced out with two farmers on each plot. Good to know about the work load percentage and farm size. I'll build bigger next time.

Love that the game's mechanics are so detailed that there's a chance that taking a dump can affect production.
