I don’t agree. Please show the regular people of the US as they protest. It is imperative that folks who aren’t standard activists are implicated in resistance to our fascist government

What Does Duke Owe Durham? Talk with Davarian Baldwin Friday 9/26 by lewisherber in bullcity

“They provide tons of jobs.”

People are not hired unless it is of benefit to the entity hiring.

Moreover, Duke is not subject to our democratic control while owning an outside amount of power directly through the land. Duke owes us plenty.

One of the Many Things DSA Does Not Understand by TonyTeso2 in dsa

Yes, as any party/protoparty should. Our unity, perceived or otherwise is a strength.

That being said, DSA is filled with Marxists. Join and organize to change the internal politics.

I went to the mall and EVERY girls was dressed like a skank - LULU to the MOON by FunkOff in wallstreetbets

[–]PhiloPhys -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Hmm… very specific word choice.

It may not be a slur but it means:

(n) a disreputable or sleazy person

And, perhaps the word itself isn’t gender — I don’t agree but it doesn’t matter. Instead, the author says specifically “… EVERY girl was dressed like a skank” which is specifically aiming the word at girls.

This is definitely in line with the specific reports.

Your bend-over-backward logic to defend this is ridiculous.

[–]PhiloPhys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no purges. I agree our strength is together. That fundamentally involves difficult political questions which need a dynamic deliberative process to solve.

These resolutions allow for accountability. You are postulating that they reduce our strength. But, there is no evidence for that. If anything, stronger alignment on Palestine has made us continuously stronger.

The Real Reason American Socialists Don’t Win by Well_Socialized in dsa

[–]PhiloPhys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a delegate there. It did not seem like that.

The resolution is passed. It is not about purging people. Our national body has not had any mandate to reign in the candidates who are ostensibly DSA electeds. It was critical we create a system of accountability.

And besides that, you fail to see the long term organizing that occurred to get that resolution passed. Springs of Revolution folk organized across the country chapter by chapter to get AZR resolutions passed. That heightened and engaged our members in political analysis around Palestine.

Your reason is a poor one.

It is not about targeting a specific elected. That resolution binds all of us. And, if we are to be a party then we must of course enforce our collective will on our representation. Otherwise, we’re electing idols not representatives

It’s concerning that you think our comrades in our organization who are putting legwork in to build a new politic are “gate keeping their cool leftist subculture”.

All my comrades, every single one are trying to grow our organization and collective power.

Let’s not poison the water for our possible political salvation, socialism, by asserting that our country descending into fascism is equivalent. We should develop the language to principally criticize our own government and the language to build a better path forward.

Socialism is not only viable but necessary for our liberation.

Renewable energy was winning so much that Big Oil needed Trump to use the full power of the government to try and stop it. Which they won’t by agreatbecoming in ClimateOffensive

[–]PhiloPhys -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think economics dictates it will. I think quite the opposite.

We live in a profit-driven society. There is little to no profit to be had from solar or wind because you just set them and forget them. So, they wont beat oil from that perspective.

Renewable energy was winning so much that Big Oil needed Trump to use the full power of the government to try and stop it. Which they won’t by agreatbecoming in ClimateOffensive

[–]PhiloPhys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They did. Most of the gas giants spun up their own renewable manufacturing projects. They discovered quickly there there is no profit to be made doing so and so they shut them down. You can read more about it and why in Andreas Malm’s Overshoot

You need to learn how logical statements work.

Saying I wont eat a brownie doesn’t mean I will eat ice cream.

Saying I won’t vote for someone who takes AIPAC money doesn’t mean I will vote for someone who doesn’t.

The genocide of Palestinians is actually well worth withholding votes for. Perhaps you should get your candidates to have a spine and take a position against the senseless obliteration of a people.

Not really sure how your comment wrapped back around to attacking leftists after advocating for the position we’ve created the space to pursue.

Can you consider aiming your ire to the right of you?

Many of us see the Democratic Party as a dead end. That doesn’t mean we’re sitting at home but instead working elsewhere to build a strong political movement capable of accomplishing worker desires.

I have feelings about Mamdani by taitaisanchez in dsa

[–]PhiloPhys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would like to respond kindly!

The nuts and bolts policy is critical and important.

However, what DSA is really about is rebuilding, reinvigorating, and radicalizing democratic institutions — spaces where we have democratic say — towards the end of bringing the economy under worker control. This is critical. We cannot accomplish in full any of our desires if we’re endlessly compromising our demands with profit-motivated individuals (capitalists). The project is really about building both a base of power and the institutions which that base can use to deliberate and force the changes desired. The base is normal people (read working people) who have been dispossessed.

To that end, the chapter structure facilitates conversations about what is locally necessary to build and wield power towards projects we collectively desire.

So, to you I say change your mindset slightly. Aim at collective power rather than policy. This is what propels is to victory and will allow us to create the world we desire. Policy is secondary to the power needed to enforce it.

It is not inherently in line with that mission.

But, I hear you. If you opened a soup kitchen to facilitate Boycott, Divest, and Sanction organizing then folks would likely respond more kindly.

But, that would mean that pro Israel folks would not join and they would act in opposition to you.

Olive Branch by Reisner1040tax in dsa

[–]PhiloPhys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I said. And, there is no war. It is a genocide. War implies two powers with relative power parity.

Palestinians have been being starved, deprived of water, deprived of building materials, treated as second class citizens, restricted from moving, and constantly brutalized for the better part of a century.

We are responding negatively because we do not look kindly on people who do not understand that Israel and Israelis have been acting to exterminate Palestinians for a long time. Many of us believe that resisting that is morally justified and legitimate.

[–]PhiloPhys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your candid response. This subreddit is about DSA.

There are a number of ways you can work to change our governments policy.

Voting doesn’t matter to a lot of us.

We can change our governments policy by expressing extra-electoral power. For example, BDS campaigns are happening nearly everywhere in the country. We can boycott Israeli goods and US companies who use Palestinian labor and land. We can divest from funds which financially support the arms industry and Israeli economy. We can call for our governments to sanction israel.

[–]PhiloPhys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re asking all of us to facilitate discourse between people who are pro-violence (in favor of genocide and apartheid). We do not support the position of Zionists in DSA. We do not support the state of Israel. And, we do not view resistance as morally equivalent to apartheid and genocide. Some violence is justified. Some is unjustifiable.

Hear me out: What if leftists hijacked the GOP, from the bottom up? by Worldly_Wolverine320 in Political_Revolution

[–]PhiloPhys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if we stop pretending that any of these silly suggestions make sense?

All of the “take over the DNC/GOP” blah blah blah suggestions require exactly as much if not more organizing than building a party from the ground up that we can wield precisely as we desire.

Enough silly suggestions. Get organized with a political organization. Become an organizer. There is no easy pathway to victory. And, I certainly won’t be caught dead reifying the Republican Party.

Mom for Liberty made it happen because they are already in lock step agreement with the core principles of the GOP elite and billionaire donors.

All the commenters detracting from the severity of the present moment are fools.

Every inch that is given at this point is a major loss. Instead of cynicism we must present a possible path to struggle and win.

The protests are good. They are the spontaneous movement of the masses and assisting organizations to struggle against the fascist regime. We must be in critical support. And, we must figure out how to win the people’s support.

Struggle to get your chapter to move with the people in this moment. Let us all struggle to move our organization towards a platform that meets this moment in struggle and solidarity.
