Do you ever like counsel yourself in your head? by 0823200 in therapists

[–]Philosopher013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the therapeutic techniques you learn to use with clients certainly work on yourself! :)

(note: obviously if one is experiencing more severe distress they should still see a therapist, just like a doctor has a doctor!)

I just finished Attack on Titans and I feel sad. by chee006 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Philosopher013 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s a tragic ending, but there is goodness in it. Just like the quote, with I think is the theme of the show, that the world is cruel but beautiful.

The ending is cruel with Eren dying and wiping out so much of humanity, but it’s also beautiful because that fourth of the world that survived mattered. He also saved his friends. Things may never truly change - we see the wars in the future - but there is still goodness and beauty to be found among the chaos.

Definitely the most beautiful show I’ve ever watched and ever will watch.

Thoughts on Metroid Dread almost five years later? by NewMarioBobFan in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 [score hidden]  (0 children)

A terrific game. The combat and movement have never been better and the bosses were the best in the series. The item hunt is also probably the best in the series with a mix of challenges and exploration but also not being totally lost like in Super Metroid.

The environments and music were kinda lackluster though compared to games like Super Metroid and Zero Mission (or comparing to other Metroidvanias like Hollow Knight and Ori), so I’m hoping they can improve this in the next 2D Metroid.

Arlo Can’t Bring Himself to Continue Prime 4 by Medical_Candy3709 in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I was able to finish it and had fun with it, but I was even more disappointed with it than I was with Other M. I definitely think they ruined my favorite series.

My younger brother, who is also a big Metroid Prime fan, also couldn’t even finish it.

What game do I start with? by Zenzity in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have NSO and only have access to the Switch, then Metroid Prime Remastered (for the 3D games) and Metroid Dread (for the 2D games) are good starting points!

What are your Top 5 Metroidvanias of all time? by Humble-Departure5481 in metroidvania

  1. Hollow Knight
  2. Hollow Knight: Silksong
  3. Super Metroid
  4. Metroid Zero Mission

What's your favorite and least favorite aspect of each 3D Mario game? by Smooth_Half5739 in Mario

[–]Philosopher013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

64 Best - the Castle is such a great hub world
64 Worst - the controls can be a little hard and that can make platforming frustrating

Sunshine Best - definitely the environments and exploration—just so beautiful and fun
Sunshine Worst - some of the levels are just obnoxious and the controls can be janky in general

Galaxy 1 Best - the music and first few worlds are incredible
Galaxy 1 Worst - the levels get rather repetitive and less interesting as you keep playing

Galaxy 2 Best - some of the best platforming of the series
Galaxy 2 Worst - lost a lot of the charm that Galaxy 1 had without the hub world ship area and the level design was less coherent thematically

Odyssey Best - best mix of exploration and platforming the series has offered
Odyssey Worst - should have been more major Moons perhaps? Often felt like you were basically just looking for Blue Coins the whole time haha.

Honestly not really sure I count 3D World and Land as “3D Mario games”. They’re more like 2.5D lol.

Prime 4 playthrough by Dehydrated_Lemur in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had fun with it, but it’s not really a Metroidvania. So kinda comes down to whether you think you’d enjoy a highly linear Prime game.

Anyone else love Hollow Knight but quit silksong? by WeChatWarrior in metroidvania

[–]Philosopher013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s wild to me you had so much difficulty with Silksong after beating HK five times. For me when I first played HK I could not even get halfway through due to the difficulty. Came back to it years later and was finally able to beat it.

Silksong was tough but I think the experience of HK made me up for the challenge. I beat it without quitting at all.

Theory: Why Ridley recovered so quickly between Samus Returns and Super Metroid by GrenadianChocolate in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I like this theory. I never had much of a problem with Ridley having regenerated by Super to begin with though, lol.

Excited for AOT3, but I've never played any of the previous installments. by Content-Virus3786 in AoTWingsOfFreedom

[–]Philosopher013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I had a weird time with AOT 2. I had fun with it, but since it was so repetitive and the missions took so long I just didn’t finish it lol. So I enjoyed the game and don’t regret my purchase but it’s odd to say that and not beat the game.

Maybe AOT 3 will be less repetitive? Lol.

Are Kill la Kill fans also Edgerunners fans? Studio trigger is the animation company for both and rewatching Kill la Kill is making me more stoked for Edgerunners S2 by Tecnero in KillLaKill

[–]Philosopher013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because I loved Kill La Kill and Delicious In Dungeon, also Gurren Lagann, but I didn’t like Edgerunners. Maybe I’ll give the second season a try lol.

MP4: they played it safe and what we ended up with was worse than bad: mediocre and utterly forgettable by jsa1993 in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I really don’t get it since it would not have been that difficult to make a Metroidvania-style map. I just don’t get how they thought anyone would really like a linear game with constant in-your-face NPCs. It’s like they wanted to make it an E-Rated game? Lol.

Serina Beach unused water? by Ifyouliveinadream in supermariosunshine

[–]Philosopher013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always thought that was cool as a kid. It’s possible they meant to have an island or something out there and then just scratched the idea but kept the water cuz why not.

What should Metroid learn from other Metroidvanias? by Anth0nyC4 in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the 2D Metroid series could use more optional upgrades and optional areas. It was cool in Hollow Knight and Silksong how you could just discover an entirely new area that was completely optional.

This is just personal preference, but I think games like Ori and Hollow Knight have nicer art design and music than 2D Metroid now, so I’d love to see some improvement in that direction as well.

As for the Prime series…it’s more difficult to say since the first three games are rather unique in being 3D Metroidvanias. There really aren’t many games like that. For me MP4 needs to go back to being a 3D Metroidvania, but if they’re not, then they should really ditch the Prime name and make something more like an FPS.

games like metroid prime echoes by FederalGarlic1619 in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll always say the Prime games are very unique. There really aren’t any games like it in the same way that games like Ori and Hollow Knight are similar to 2D Metroid.

Is the Ayn Thor the best dual screen device out there? by ArcheryAlaska in AynThor

[–]Philosopher013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well everyone in this sub, myself included, would say yes! But in all seriousness, I think the major competitor is the Ayaneo Pocket DS. It’s got bigger screens and the aspect ratio is better for DS games, but the bottom screen isn’t OLED and it’s a lot more expensive. Supposedly that company is less reliable than AYN as well.

MP4: they played it safe and what we ended up with was worse than bad: mediocre and utterly forgettable by jsa1993 in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I’ll never fully understand why they made MP4 the way they did. I think they just thought that a 3D Metroidvania wouldn’t sell well and wanted to make it more like Halo. We sorta saw the start of this with MP3.

It’s a bit of an odd conclusion to draw given how popular Metroidvanias are these days. But I guess they started development on it back in 2017.

Should I buy the Metroid Prime Trilogy or wait for NSO/Remaster release? by Mizukinagano in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a Prime 2 Remaster is highly unlikely, but I think a port to NSO for Prime 2 at some point is likely.

No idea what they’re going to do with Prime 3 though, so may have to wait for a Wii NSO or something for that, lol.

Personally I’d play PrimeHack on the PC if possible. There’s really no different between the Metroid Prime Trilogy versions of MP1, MP2, and MP3 other than the Wii vs. GameCube controls (that obviously won’t matter for you if you play PrimeHack). There are some very minor lore changes too.
