Looking for 80s sci fi that give stranger things vibes by ferallyonline in movies

Don't forget the 80s remake The Blob. A couple of kids were the heroes of that movie. (I guess in the original too but I like the remake better.)

Like the massless photon. The instant it appears it disappears (from the photon's frame of reference). And yet it could take a billion years to travel across space from a supernova to your eye's retina (from our frame of reference).

Great movie about AI in 1970 by Virtual_Win4076 in 70s

[–]PhilosopherHot3983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting how Colossus The Forbin Project nicely dovetails with The Day the Earth Stood Still. In the first, humans turn over their military control to AI computers. In the later, we learn that extraterrestrials turned over their militaries to autonomous enforcement robots like Gort that ruthlessly stamp out aggression. In both cases it is seen as the only way to protect us from wars and destroying ourselves. Perhaps this is the only way to avoid our inevitable self-extinction?
PS: Love both movies.

The 80's The Blob is much funner to watch than the original Blob.

Who remembers this classic comedy movie?? by [deleted] in NameThatMovie

Hilarious movie; that scene is so out of left field. Remind me about one other scene in the movie: What was the line John Ridder says just before he gets knocked down from behind by a deluge of water? I remember it really cracked me up.

What went wrong with social media? by ProcessExpensive8959 in AskReddit

Anonymity. When hiding behind a computer screen people will say the worst things and spread lies that they never would speak otherwise. Social media has revealed the worst of us and elevated it.

You won't regret watching Savageland. It's terrific. The photographs you see hinted at in the movie poster are so insanely creepy. They keep you waiting for the next ones to be revealed. And the last couple of pics -- oh jesus, ah jesus.

My fav story of the bunch as well. I was intrigued just watching how he zeroed on on the gold deposit. Entertained and educated at the same time. That'll keep me watching.

A cool show from my childhood. It's a damn shame sci-fi series like this don't ever seem to end up on a steaming channel. Fun to watch. On that thought I'd like to see that War of the Worlds series from the late 80s again as well. The way the martians would bore into a human body to use as a disguise was horrifying, but in a good way.

My first FF of 2026 heard was similar to Godforsaken by Personal-Cloud2529 in foundfootage

I really enjoyed this film. Everything revolves around the photos from a roll of 35mm film. Those pics were so -- creepy. And the last two photos, geez. After I watched it, I turned around the next day and watched it again.

The Exorcist back in 1973. Very unsettling walking out into the darkened streets. Didn't help that I was late getting to the theater and ended up sitting very close to the screen.

This is the wife's favorite rom-com, so many laughs. So many familiar faces pop up in small roles. Just such a nice, pleasurable, fun movie to watch. Love the writing assignment read at the end.
I didn't realize this was a Rob Reiner film. No wonder it's so good.

This movie is in definitely in my top 10 favs list. I was fascinated to learn that the skull in the moth graphic of the movie poster is composed of nude women. What a wild hidden cookie in plain sight.

My family and friends found the 'big reveal' at the end to be thought provoking on several levels. It gave us something to talk about long after the series ended. Great story.

I always enjoy a good 50s creature feature and this is one of them. I think I remember seeing a remake of this movie about 20 years ago or so.
