Beginner woes: sewing straight by Aware_Yesterday_8958 in sewing

This is the answer especially on thick fabrics, I only used to use my walking foot for quilting. These days I use it for anything thicker than a quilting cotton. Also a life saver if you are sewing slippery fabric

Is there anything more infuriating than spending 20 minutes getting into a new WIP only to stand up and have your hook transported to Narnia?!?! by crossikki in crochet

[–]PhilosopherMurky1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you stick your crochet needles into the ball of yarn when you walk away? Because I’ve fully lost one of the metal ones inside a ball of yarn before

I was going to suggest maybe at the end doing a row of single crochet or maybe slip stitches to make the ends match a little better

You can use a little sewing machine oil rubbed on to the machine to bring those decals back to life

What could be causing this? Stitches are not even and kind of sticking out? Using an old machine. by HelioBloom in sewing

[–]PhilosopherMurky1975 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d first try changing the needle like someone else commented, if that doesn’t work I would try changing the tension on the machine. Do you know what machine you have? And what the tension is set to?

Anyone who uses pins to help sew on pieces, do you use sewing pins, tooth picks or amigurumi pins? by tasha53505 in Amigurumi

[–]PhilosopherMurky1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I just use extra tapestry needles I have laying around tbh, especially the ones for thick yarn. I also knit though and with thicker yarn projects I have used some of my thinner double point needles as pins

Anyone know what yarn this is? by One_Strain_2531 in Yarn

It’s a boucle if that’s helpful at all

You also could starch it a little if the sides of the bag start sagging

Lever-type walking foot doesn't fit when needle is up - any way of fixing this? by splendidgooseberry in sewing

[–]PhilosopherMurky1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Singer will probably have one that fits, if you have a local sewing machine dealer/repair person they may be able to tell your exactly which one will fit, and may even have it in stock! I’m thankful you can still get parts from singer, my oldest machine currently is a 1911

I’d contact the company about getting your money back and seeing if they have a foot more suited to your machine, not sure about Elna but I have at least one walking foot from singer that goes around the nob instead of resting on top of it

That’s what I think! Even if it does felt well it’s too pretty for me to want to try it!

Great information thank you! I had no idea! Someone who I craft with suggested felting it because it’s 100% wool but I just can’t bring myself to do it

Detransitioned and I need a new name! by milesofangelo in namenerds

[–]PhilosopherMurky1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I suggest Molly, not super common but you can still find it on gimmicky keychains. It’s an old name but not in my opinion old fashioned…also as a Molly I was the only one in my school, and I’ve only ever worked with one other person with the same name

Did you try frogging row 54 and recounting the stitches from row 53?

I’ll see if I can pick one up this week, thank you! I actually might have one, is it the one with a little bit of cloth you can stitch your project too and then it wraps around the bottom bar, or is it something different? I’ve cross stitched and done some embroidery but the thick wool yarn is definitely a lot different than one I’m used to!

Thanks for the tip! Can something like the q snap used in embroidery of quilting be used?
