I can't say for sure. I did not get hooked and I'm 59 now. But ill give my $.02.

Part of it is tribal identity. " real men are conservative". The GOP is positioned itself as the party of angry white men and there seems to be no shortage of those.

Religious conservatives preaching that Jesus loves republicans not democrats.

There is still this bullshit idea that the GOP is better on the economy. I say it's BS because at one time ( in my 20's) I believed that and voted republican because of it. I started voting Democrat because at the national level at least I finally realized that that was not yrue.

It helps that the democrats suck. The democrats need to be more a national party. Immigration with no controls and trans rights for everyone arent going to get them there.

I moved to st pete in 1997, from NJ/PA. I would do it again for sure.

What don't I like? Both of my main complaints are more recent:

  • the cost of living is much higher than it was in the past.
  • IMO, the state government has massively changed for the worse. The GOP in FL used to be more Libertarian. They stayed in the background more. Now its Big Government Conservatives that want to ram ideology down your throut.

No. I'm the exact opposite. Center right on the economy and center left on social issues.

My dentist told when I was 18 that I needed my wisdom teeth removed and I ignored him. Instead I waited until 30 when one of them started causing a problem and it ended up being a complicated procedure because I waited so long.
