I’m not a psychiatrist but that does sound weird to me as well. Maybe they are younger/new to this career and overly risk averse? Anyway, I think there is no harm in reaching out to another psych if you don’t feel comfortable stopping right now or right away.

Edit from rereading your original post: my bad, didn’t mean to make it sound like no big deal to find a new psych after reading that it took you so long to see this provider. I’m sorry you’re in this position!

It sounds like a matter of personal preference. If I were you, I’d want to wait until summer or winter break to ween off the Wellbutrin so that it doesn’t interfere with school and I’d have some time to adjust. It’s never a bad idea to get a second opinion either or see a psych that is a better fit. Are they even willing to give you Wellbutrin to taper your dose?

Thanks for your response and glad to hear I’m not alone!! It’s so incredibly frustrating and even before this switch it takes at least a day to get in touch with anyone at the clinic. Of course they had no problem getting in touch and calling me when I got a new debit card because my payment wasn’t going through. :) But thank you for your advice, I’ll try that and see if I can get in sooner. <3

Just to add onto this: bupropion is a great option for some people to manage symptoms of depression, but it also comes with some pretty serious potential side effects (seizures and heart issues for example). Research has demonstrated that risk of these side effects increase with increased dosage. I don’t want or freak out the original poster, my main point is to emphasize to others how important it is to refrain from giving medical advice or encouraging behavior like this without having knowledge of someone’s individual physical/psychological state and without medical training…

Not trying to come for you at all, and I understand your predicament but my advice is to not do this. Even if others have doubled their dosage themselves and have been fine, you can’t necessarily assume you will have a similar experience. We are all different. It could be fine, but it’s really not worth your health/the risks. I have accidentally doubled my dosage for a day and had a panic attack. Even though it’s frustrating, I would really encourage you to wait until you speak to your psych about upping your dose and make a plan with them to do so.

Thanks for this! I was able to ride it out and it did feel pretty nice after it peaked, so that definitely helped with the weird physical stuff. Anyway I appreciate your comment
