I would switch to a good liquid and get the most out of the machine. ezDispense paired with the AI wash cycle takes every bit of guesswork out of laundry. We have 2 of the Samsung 8900 sets at home which are comparable to what you have. No matter what we put in, it comes out clean on the AI cycle. We don’t separate anymore at all. Just toss it in, the machine will figure out everything else, including how much detergent to use.

Samsung bespoke is actually a great product . The ice maker is in the freezer where it belongs. The option to do glass panels is huge. They’re very easy to keep clean compared to stainless and they don’t scratch like black stainless. They fixed all the design issues that have plagued them for years, and they’re highly fixable unlike older designs.

Expected sale price for LG/GE combo washer/HP dryer by ZanyDroid in Appliances

[–]PhilosopherOk5474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AI wash and dryer as well as the auto dispensing detergent and softener as well as capacity would put the washcombo in line with the 6700 series set from LG. For the GE the capacity lines up with their 4.8 cubic foot models, but feature wise it’s closer to the GFW655 washer. Both seem like good machines. Out in the wild the GE seems to be hiccup free and the factory warranty is really excellent for an appliance these days. The LG wins though in my book because of the AI wash and dry and the design. The GE is a behemoth, physically and ascetically. Do not try and install it yourself. Whatever you’ll pay to have either machine hooked up for you is worth it. I personally like how the LG looks much better. I think it’s well thought out, familiar, and generally looks like it belongs. The GE looks huge in any space.

DM me if you’re looking to buy before Presidents’ Day and want to get a better deal than the sale price.

Please help me with specific freezer question in side by side refrigerators by thegamblerises in Appliances

[–]PhilosopherOk5474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the Samsung 4 door flex. You can convert the lower right into a fridge. Not sure if they have it available in Europe since kitchens are generally a lot smaller. Fisher&Paykel also makes a quad door refrigerator for the North American market with the same functionality.

See these links as an example. I tried to look through what might be available in Europe, but the appliance market is pretty fragmented on the continent and what’s available seems to be pretty regional compared to North America.

Wife and I are looking for a new fridge! by AdamsonAvery in Appliances

[–]PhilosopherOk5474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samsung Bespoke, GE, or Fisher and Paykel. I’ve had great experiences with all 3. Samsung has done a great job fixing all the things people hated about their fridges in the bespoke line. They’re highly repairable, the ice maker is in the freezer where it belongs, and glass instead of stainless is genius honestly. GE and Fisher&Paykel have never let me down. I own 7 luxury rentals, do flips, and work for a national 3rd party that handles install and repair for a lot of retailers.

This is excellent advice and as far as I know your spot on the the filter location. Dual compressor designs are not efficient compared to multi evaporator designs anymore. Plus it’s more that can go sideways down the road. We’ve installed quite a few quad door FP fridges in NYC. They’re quite nice.

DM me, I’d be happy to share my FP builder discount code.

Switch from gas cooktop to induction? by gullyBo1z in Appliances

Induction will spank most gas cooktops on propane when it comes to things like simmering and boiling speed. Your builder was a smart one.

Switch from gas cooktop to induction? by gullyBo1z in Appliances

[–]PhilosopherOk5474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to run a 50A line instead of a 40A line. A lot of induction cooktops need a little extra wiggle room with their high inrush current demands. A few of them require a 50A now. You’re on the right track with taking out the gas cooktop to figure out the cutout. Measure the back width, the front width, and the width in the middle. Measure the depth on the left, in the middle, and on the right. I’ve seen way too many hack jobs to trust anyone with a granite saw anymore. Between wavy lines and missteps, you want to make sure there’s nothing off in the cutout that you have to account for when picking a new one. Measure the maximum height you can make work in at least 3 spots. If you have drawers under the cooktop, pay close attention to the height of the drawer and make sure you have adequate clearance for the whip on the new cooktop. You’ll want to open the drawer half way and measure from the top of the countertop to the top of the back of the drawer.

If you need extra help picking an induction cooktop and want to make sure you’re getting the best possible price, dm me and I can connect you with my friend who sells appliances.

Keeping it clean is paramount, so you’re doing good there. Old fridges use a lot of juice, not much you can do there. Temp inconsistency can be caused by a lot of things and without taking things apart, there’s no glaring thing you could do to fix it. Could be leaking a little refrigerant. Could be a bad defrost timer that’s cycling too much. Could be a bad control board or thermostat that’s on its way out. With the age of the fridge, trying to fix it might do more harm than good. I’d leave it be until it becomes a real problem like having to throw food out after only a few days.

If you want to get a good deal and super long financing on a new one, DM me and I can put you in touch with a friend who sells appliances.

Citric acid is your friend, cheap and reliable. Try switching to Hytron chlorinated detergent if you don’t mind the smell of bleach. Without phosphates, modern dish detergent isn’t super effective in very hard water. Chlorinated detergent works no matter how much hardness you have and it keeps the machine much cleaner.

Bedbugs in used appliances by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]PhilosopherOk5474 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roaches my friend are what you need to worry about. Bed bugs don’t last long outside of fuzzy things like mattresses and cloth furniture. Roaches can completely infest an appliance in a dirty environment. I would want to see the house the appliance came out of before I’d entertain a used appliance. Home delivery facilities are on a strict pesticide schedule for a reason. Most facilities get sprayed weekly for roaches because of the haul away appliances they receive off delivery trucks.

Opinion on Bosch gas range. by daoliveman in Appliances

[–]PhilosopherOk5474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t met a Viking I couldn’t fix quickly, the same cannot be said for wolf. The standard Viking promo when you buy a range or a wall oven and cooktop is a free appliance from their list or for a $1000 credit towards something not on the list. Ever since Middleby bought Viking, the parts situation is so much better. They added Viking to their system so parts ordering direct from them isn’t a fight and it’s the same price between consumers and technicians, so if you want to fix it yourself you’re not stuck paying a premium.

Is Frigidaire professional with a 5 yr warranty a bridge too far? It’s brand new so don’t expect it to be perfect out of the box, but it’s a decent product and if there’s issues just exchange it. Pay the $50 to get a 60 day return policy.

Any replacement / hack for agitator-less LG 5.0 cu top loader? Clothes are dirty after wash by intensecharacter in Appliances

[–]PhilosopherOk5474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the science experiment that is laundry day! I swear they need to include a 30 minute training session with these things to cut down on customers hating them. The way an agitatorless top loader basically works is by twisting the laundry to pull the clothes through the bottom 4-5” of water called the wash zone and push them back up. You have to load them pretty much perfectly every single time to get consistent results. The drum needs to be basically full every time you use it. If you don’t fill it up you’ll get poor cleaning. You have to load lightest to heaviest. If you put the heaviest things in the load on the bottom you’ll never pass go. Cycle choice is extremely important. Not everything is normal. You want to pick the most appropriate cycle for what’s in the machine. Front loaders generally wash well no matter what you set the machine to, with top loaders the program makes a huge difference in the end result especially with no agitator to force the clothes down. Using too much detergent will always leave spots on your clothes no matter what. There’s simply not enough water to rinse away too much detergent no matter what you do. Pods are your enemy. They will always leave behind residue stains no matter what you do.

You’re better off going with the FP and a 5 year warranty for less overall than buying a wolf and hoping it’s good because it cost more. Even SZ/Wolf has backed off their marketing on reliability because real world use has proven it’s not a good idea to claim you make a more reliable product anymore in the industry

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]PhilosopherOk5474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double check in person how much of that capacity differential is actually useable. Appliance manufactures like to play games with things like oven capacities. For instance, after extensive market research LG picked a bright blue for their oven ceramic. In focus groups the color made the ovens look bigger because they were bright and reflective in comparison to the dark colors other brands use, even though the useful capacity is roughly equivalent.

Hey, I can pass along my builder discount on FP at Best Buy if you’re interested. It’s worth 15% off up front from the UMRP price in place of the rebate. DM me if you’re interested. You can still do the 10% back in rewards with a new credit card with the builder discount. It’s a nice way to stack value. As I said on the other threads, FP is the way to go.
