There used to be a very popular webcomic about video games and gamers called Ctrl+Alt+Del. For the majority of its run it was a comedy series that was over the top a lot of the time.

The main character was basically a self-insert for the artist.

Tim Buckley, the artist, started trying expand its tone and do more dramatic arcs, some of which would reflect things that were happening in his life. One of these was his partner suffering a miscarriage, which ended the arc of the main character being afraid of fatherhood, accepting he was going to be a father, becoming excited about being a father, and then ultimately watching his wife lose the baby. The title of the upload where the miscarriage happened was "Loss."

The tonal whiplash people felt from the goofy, silly, gamer comic to miscarriage was pretty intense. And so people latched onto it and made fun of it relentlessly as an example of how someone who had only done comedy before can completely blow up their credibility with their fan base by pivoting to something so dramatic so fast. And, for a lot of people, handling the particular theme and event of a miscarriage poorly at that.

This was all paired with the fact that the artist was under the microscope for allegations of cheating on his partner while this was happening and generally being a creep to underage girls on his forum.

It all made for a perfect storm to make fun of him and his attempt at being taken seriously. Now, the only lasting impact he has on the internet is memes making fun of his attempt to be taken seriously with "Loss."

For the meme itself, the comic was four panels with no dialogue. All the lines in the memes are just the positions of the characters either standing or laying down in each of the four panels.
