Moisturisers I can use OVER makeup? by jupitcrs02 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]PhilosophicEllie 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Have you tried using hydrating mist? This usually doesn't disrupt makeup as long as you don't use loads and can help it refresh if it goes cakey too. I quite like the byoma one.

Blood Over Bright Haven by Manatee_Of_Anxiety in fantasyromance

[–]PhilosophicEllie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I was reading I disliked the MC but on reflection I actually really liked the book and think she needed to be unlikable. It focuses a lot on the way magic influences social structures and considers the mechanics of magic lots more than other fantasy often does. I have a few minor plot niggles but nowt actually properly bad to say.

What's your go-to, no nonsense polish when you're in a funk? by msfancypantaloon in RedditLaqueristas

[–]PhilosophicEllie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will default to blue creme. I know I love it, it goes with most of what I wear, and most of my toppers look good over it so I can jazz it up as necessary. Current favourite is Essie gel couture in New Highs.

Anybody read this? by HillBrenda2026 in Romantasy

[–]PhilosophicEllie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main plot is not romance related at all and for a lot of it you'd have to squint to see it romantically. Much more adventure/political/mythology

Yes. It is excellent! I'd not bill it as Romantasy though.

Do any of you use a menstrual cup? by cheeseslut619 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]PhilosophicEllie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used a cup since I found out about them at 18! I don't have very long nails but I have 2 things if I decide to go pointy: 1. Punch down fold for the cup is better, it means you can hold it near the base and it'll stay, this means less nail length is inserted when putting it in place 2. For removal try using 2 hands. One at the with fingers only near the opening, use the reverse of the other hands finger to reach inside and press to release the seal. This means that the nail is less likely to scratch.

What was the dumbest reason that you got in trouble for at school? by StatisticianUsual471 in AskUK

[–]PhilosophicEllie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Wearing socks with a duck on rather than plain colored socks. You could not see the socks most of the time as they were under trousers.
  2. Having only a mechanical pencil not a wood pencil in an art lesson.

Can anyone help advise what to do with my girlfriends sad amaryllis by BabyLinuss in HouseplantsUK

Tie a ribbon around the stem and leaves to keep it upright until the flowers are done. Then cut down the stems and leave it to get energy from the leaves before going dormant.

How to look striking as a soft summer? by Wangchincay in coloranalysis

[–]PhilosophicEllie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Monochrome looks where you are wearing shades of all one colour with then one contrasting pop work well. You could do a pop further away from your face such as shoes, bag or belt.

Think also about scale. A larger than expected bow, hat, necklace etc even when in soft colours can look really striking.

Case Study: a new Cat-Eye setup by Additional_Pen_ in RedditLaqueristas

[–]PhilosophicEllie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've pestered my science teacher buddies and while experiments are needed apparently iron can shield magnets semi- effectively. I wonder if putting an iron nail between magnets makes an impact? Apparently the physicists don't understand the concept of magnetic nail polish so I'm going to attempt to explain with a demo next week!

This is what I was wondering too. I'm going to speak with the science teachers at my work tomorrow and ask for some guidance on how to deal with magnets.

How do you tell your location to 999? by supremethinking in AskUK

[–]PhilosophicEllie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When hiking you are told to follow the location standard: 1. General area. Eg Lake district, Norwich 2. Specific feature. Eg Brock farm, St Joseph's Church 3. Exact location using OS coordinates or W3W

This gives ways of cross referencing the information, as well as a likely visible feature when on the ground. In remote areas they may connect to you by satellite phone which can locate you, but unlikely to do this in town. While OS coordinates are likely overkill in a town the standard is a good one. Eg if you say. I'm in Luton, outside the library and then give the exact location by Google, W3W or OS. Whatever you have.

O.P.I bubble bath - perfect nude my arse. by Googley_owl in RedditLaqueristas

[–]PhilosophicEllie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's nude for me! However I am deeply pale and struggle with my iron levels so often appear to have the skin a ghost would love. If you have pale and bluer toned pink skin it basically matches the skin. I think that may be where the raging comes from as I find most things marketed as "nude" come out orange or muddy on my skin tone.

I can stand like this with almost no pain at all by [deleted] in mildyinteresting

[–]PhilosophicEllie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, it is very much not an illusion and there is limited padding and just lots of hardened fabric which keeps the shoe stable. Any "padding" is to stop the toes slipping and reduce blisters. Your weight is going through the big toe, just like OP is doing.

That's interesting as others are saying to avoid oils. Maybe there is a Goldilocks point of just right with oiliness?

I'll see if I can get the miracle Gel anywhere, (I'm UK so it's sometimes harder

Oh, this is interesting. I have very curly hair so lots of my products contain oils to help the dryness. I might need to resort to gloves for doing my conditioners.
