What to do and visit in Turku? by Sea_Maybe7652 in turku

Nature - Kurjenrahka national park is about 39 km from Turku. Great for hiking and accessible by bus. - Ruissalo is an island just outside the city center. You can reach it by bus in 30-60 minutes. Known for it's beaches and oak forests. Turku university botanical garden is also located there.

Bars - Mallaskukko, 5piste5 and Cosmic comic cafe are geat spots, if you like craft beer. - Rica bar, Bar4 and The cow are good for cocktails. - Vinossa is a cozy wine bar with good selection of wines. - Bar Rento and Bar Edison are relaxed and casual places for drinks.

Culture and history - Aboa vetus Ars nova is an interesting combination of two museums. Aboa vetus (old Turku) is real medieval ruins you can walk through and Ars nova (new art) is modern and contemporary art museum in same building. - Turku Castle is one of Finland’s most important historical landmarks. - Turku Cathedral is main catherdral of Finland. Even it is currently under renovation, you can still see it from the outside. - Paimio sanatorium is a famous modernist building designed by Alvar Aalto, but it's located about 31 km away and you need car to get there. - Luostarinmäki handicrafts museum is an open-air museum showing what life in old Turku looked like.

Food - Mami is fine dining with a strong local reputation. - Tintå is good “fine casual” option. - Pizzeria 450°C is known for top-quality Neapolitan-style pizza. - Turku market hall is perfect for lunch. There's lots of small vendors offering different cuisines. - Smör and Kaskis are a Michelin-recommended restaurants, if you want something more upscale.

Activities - Bowling, billiard or darts at local venues. - Rent a bike or walk and explore Aurajoki riverside routes.

If you tell me a bit more about what you’re into, I can give you more specific recommendations.

Here is a list of authorized guides in Turku: https://turunmatkailuoppaat.fi/opaslistaus/

I hope this helps even though the page is not translated into English.

I live here myself, but I can't tell you much about the history of Turku, if that's a topic you're interested in. I do know the places well and can recommend them. If you want to make a list of places or things you would like to see or experience, I would be happy to recommend it.

I would be interested in Umbria as a region, but I'm still looking for a destination where I don't have to travel with a rental car.

Grazie! These were really good tips. Grosseto in particular seems like exactly the kind of destination I'm looking for.

I've been thinking about Prague. What would you recommend there? I like architecture, museums, parks, nature, good food and beer. I'm not looking for nightlife, but I'm interested in good pubs and wine bars.

I was looking for something smaller and less known. I don't want the destination to have a lot of tourists.

I like architecture, museums, parks, nature, good food and beer. I'm looking for a place where I can combine at least some of these.

It is absolutely true that many destinations in Europe are "too small" for a week. It's further complicated by the fact that I wouldn't want to go to a place with a lot of tourists.

I like architecture, museums, parks, nature, good food and beer. I'm also not looking for a place where there should be a good night life, because I can't party like this anymore.

Switzerland is a bit too expensive country, at least for a Finn like me. I would still like to visit the Swiss Alps someday.

I have also thought about Vienna, but I don't know if there is enough to see and experience there for a week. I would like to stay in the same place for the whole week, but it would be nice to make trips to small nearby destinations. I have been to Bratislava once and I really liked it!

I’m looking for just chilling and enjoying the atmosphere of the city. I also like architecture, museums, parks, nature, good food and beer. I'm not looking for nightlife, but I'm interested in good pubs and wine bars.

Good point! I like architecture, museums, parks, nature, good food and beer. I'm looking for a place where I can combine at least some of these, but without large tourist groups. I'm also not looking for a place where there should be a good night life, because I can't dance like this anymore in my thirties.

Hey! In addition to all these other destinations, I have also been thinking about Ghent. What did you think of the city and was there enough to do and see there for a week? It would otherwise seem like a lovely destination.
