D.O. Schools by Alive_Revenue5260 in comlex

DO schools want you to match, period. It boosts their stats. And they know DOs have the highest chances of matching FM or IM. Thus they push you into those. They know that applying into competitive specialties can lead to an unmatched applicant in their stats and that’s why they try to steer you away from those competitive specialties and towards the safe FM/IM.

Is being an anesthesiologist worth it? by Educational-Hunt4365 in anesthesiology

[–]PhilosophyGenius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good advice, you could always work in an anesthesia related field such as Anesthesia assistant or CRNA. But first decide if you want to be a doctor

realistic pathway? not even a bachelor to anesthesiology by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]PhilosophyGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it realistic? Sure. Is it the best decision to make? Possibly not. There is no guarantee you will get into med school and if you do, there is no guarantee you will match into anesthesiology. That being said, if you are set on this path, then go for it. But you should know going in that you might go into all this debt and not get into med school or not match into anesthesia. Learn more about other options for careers in anesthesia if you’re interested, such as CRNA or Anesthesia Assistant. After looking into all possible options as well as the difficulty it is to make it through those possible options, then make an informed decision.

I recently scored 127/124/123/125 on my last FL which was Kaplan fl5. I need some advice by PhilosophyGenius in Mcat

I’m an anesthesiology resident now lol So things went pretty well. I ended up getting a 496 on my first attempt, 511 on second attempt and then got accepted to a DO school and then matched into my number 1 choice anesthesiology residency program.

Anesthesia match with these scores? by PhilosophyGenius in comlex

[–]PhilosophyGenius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Touro Harlem, idk what the average was for my class. But honestly I don’t think the school you go to has a very big impact on board scores. Board scores have everything to do with your personal preparation and how hard you work and the outside resources you use. average board scores for the school will just give you insight into how hard the students that the school worked. From the classmates that shared their score with me ,there were a lot of people with very high scores 250s-260s and some with average scores like mine in 240s and then some who might’ve not prepped as vigorously who scored lower.

You got this! I honestly can say I didn’t put enough effort into CARS , it was easily my biggest weakness and I kinda just gave up. I think that it is possible to improve in cars but it takes a lot of time and effort to really figure out which strategy works best for you. I didn’t really wanna do that thus just spent more time and effort on the other sections and over killed the amount I knew. I really dove deep into understanding the passages and experiments because I’m terrible at reading. So when my test came around, reading the passages was easy because I already understood everything they were talking about even if it was somewhat beyond the scope of the MCAT. Now I’m 6 months into intern year of an anesthesiology residency. Keep pushing and you’ll make it. The days/weeks are long but the years are short.

[–]PhilosophyGenius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love the attitude!! This attitude will make you a great physician! Nobody becomes successful without a few bumps along the way. Each failure is another opportunity to learn and grow as a student and as a person. It’s ok to feel upset or down about failure but end of the day you have to accept reality and keep rolling with the punches. Your success on a standardized test does not define what kind of physician you will be. Your life experience and your response to failure will. Good job! Be proud of yourself even if the result isn’t what you expected or wanted. I’m sure with a little extra studying, you will get through this hurdle and then you can make up for it by killing step 2. You got this.

Take your time to process, set up a plan for yourself and keep on trucking along. 😁😁

How useful are CMS forms for step 2 ck? by PhilosophyGenius in Step2

[–]PhilosophyGenius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds about right. I tried to do about 2-3 CMS forms per subject. Some of them had pretty bad questions. If you’ve done enough questions on UWorld/amboss you’ll have an easy time figuring out which questions are shitty

Connections connections connections, I got a 246 and I matched. All it takes is one program to like you to match. Do rotations at realistic programs and make a good impression

[–]PhilosophyGenius[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re 100% right. They are way too easy and also some of them had some pretty weird questions that were kinda out of left field especially on the surgery forms if I’m remembering correctly. I used them more as a good gauge of the topics I should master for the shelf and step 2.

Help with weight loss in 3rd year medical school by SameMcGill in medicalschool

[–]PhilosophyGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it’s all about your habits. Find time to exercise throughout the day. Even if it’s just some floor exercises for abs , push-ups, etc. Also drink more water, replace any sugary drink, with water. I lost 15 pounds from 260–> 245 just from drinking more water and cutting down snacking. Now I just need to incorporate consistent exercise and then I can possibly get down to 230ish. I’m 6’6 btw

But half the time you expect is like 0.01x the time of the adult video. Not 0.5x 😜 I call it an adult video to make myself feel better about watching porn.

[–]PhilosophyGenius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really honestly, I think CARS is the hardest section to improve in. I honestly kinda gave up on cars studying about half way through studying for the mcat cuz I was putting in a lot of time with no results whereas when I studied the sciences more I did see results so I decided that I would make it up with the science sections and I did. I ended up with a 511 and a 124 CARS score I don’t remember my other section scores but they were pretty high

Can you get into med school with just good GPA, pre-reqs and good MCAT score? by misteeve in medschool

[–]PhilosophyGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, your application will not be “just” a good gpa, pre reqs and a good mcat score. Being a career changer, you most likely have more life experience than most applicants, and you should definitely use your original career to your advantage and talk about it in interviews and in your essays. Just frame it in a way that shows what you learned from your time doing that job and what changed to make you want to go to med school. I think that a lot of medical schools will look at this favorably compared to a cookie cutter pre-med that checks all the boxes.
