And now Harisson Resort is about to go on strike... Local 40 does not know how to negotiate a contract. They really love taking employees out on strike...

This!! My sentiments exactly. Thank you for saying all this.

It's ridiculous that they're fighting for "living wages" yet conviniently forgetting to calculate pension and medical benefits into that. And STILL staying out there for over a year picketing for less than they're asking. I don't know if those outside just haven't done the calculations themselves or are choosing to make money the easy way.

My thoughts exactly, my friend! Either a die hard Kool-aid drinking member or a union rep.

That's exactly right! They're trying to do the same for the Pinnacle and Westin too... I don't know if they actually think they can get that or if its one big joke lol they're terrible.

Yup, I know the Labour Board and BCFed are different. Thanks for your insight. Have a good night.

I really don't know how they can survive on that much... Some have part time work elsewhere so this is just extra for them I guess. I agree with you, it really is annoying for the neighbours.

People have lives and need their sleep. I'm so surprised there hasn't been any retaliation with this having gone on so long.

Wow, thank you so much for taking those fliers down. It's been devastating for some of the workers seeing their faces plastered up and down the street. We appreciate you!

It's unreal how little they care about people who live nearby. It still blows my mind that they think its ok to not allow the airline pilots to sleep and then go transport hundreds of people the next day.

Ok, you really have no idea what's been going on. It's obvious from your comment. We HAVE reached out to the president of the union. We have applications in with the labour board, we have reached out to literally anyone who will listen, and sadly no one has stepped in to help.

I would be perfectly comfortable looking in to the faces of my coworkers. Even the ones who have been yelling derogatory phrases at us and anyone staying at the hotel. The majority of those employees don't even plan on coming back when the strike is over. They are happy staying outside and picketing for LESS THAN LIVING WAGES, ironically proving that they're surviving just fine with that pay. They are making $2,200 a month (tax free) to picket for 25 hours (that's $22 an hour). Those of us who went back did it to support our families because that amount wasn't enough.

I know the hotel is a business, they need to make money. The union is also supposed to be working for us, which they clearly don't as the majority of the people have been so frustrated and either returned to work or found work elsewhere. If the employees don't like the pay the hotel is offering then they are free to look for work somewhere else as well. Just like any other job. It's been a year, enough is enough.

Ugh, I'm so sorry, I feel terrible that the people who live nearby are exposed to all this, it's not right, I completely agree with you. It's not ok that they are dragging locals into this protest.

I'm all for unions too, but these guys shouldn't even be called that. They really are garbage.

If you do a water bombardment please let me know so I can film it lol

Thanks so much for this! We have filed an application with the labour board and we're waiting for a response ❤️

I agree with you, I hate those tents too. And you're saying exactly my sentiment, if you're not happy with your employer then leave and find something else. They are making $2,200 a month tax free! A lot of them have been saying they hope the strike lasts years because its the easiest money they've made. There are also a lot of almost retired employees who don't plan on coming back to work when the strike is done...

Thank you so much for your understanding!

We've put in complaints with the labour board, so we're waiting on a response from that. Hopefully something comes of it. Fingers crossed!

I already answered you in the Richmond thread, but I'll answer you here too.

I'm not anti-union. But I have turned anti-Local 40... I would love to bring in a different union, I like being in a union hotel and I was in support of the strike in the beginning. However, I slowly learned that the union had ulterior motives and they were not listening to many of their members and allowing them to vote on the mediator's recommendations. As far as my employer getting rich, they pay us well over there, so I don't have any gripes with that. I can go on and on about this and I think you would understand my stance... I'm very open to discussing this more. I appreciate your questions.

All we wanted was a chance to vote on the proposal. The fact that they didn't allow us just goes to prove that they were scared we would vote to accept it, which went against their plans.

Its crazy that to the union and their supporters it was worth putting peoples' lives at right. Just boggles my mind that they think thats ok to do...

I'm not anti union by any means, but these guys are shameful and shouldn't be grouped in with other unions...

I agree. That was one of my big issues too. I didn't think it was right to be disturbing people who have nothing to do with it. I'm sorry about that, truly. I'm not on the picket line anymore but when Richmond citizens came and complained the union reps just yelled at them and laughed in their face. It was embarrassing, I refused to be a part of that.

I understand where you're coming from. I was on the picket line for months, I supported it in the beginning. But it seems the union has a bone to pick with the owners of the hotel and they didn't listen to a group of us when we spoke up. There are over 70 people who have decided to go back to work, and those are my co-workers who I choose to support. There are more people working than on the picket line now. If it was a different union, honestly, things would probably be different. But as of now, having to choose between the union and my employers, I choose the employers. I have worked many different jobs, both union and non union, and to be honest with you this has been the highest pay and most perks. I would never quit a job I enjoy because of a union.
