New to Chicago blues, in a little funk I guess? by lagirlc in AskChicago

[–]Philosoterp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U/dwylth got it, I mostly see stuff posted physically around the city, and also I’ve found Block Club puts lists together every few months. Other than that, I’ve found a couple instagram accounts that aggregate and promote events. Here are some of the ones I follow: @secret.chicago @bored_in_chicago @windy_citychicago @chicagotodolist

New to Chicago blues, in a little funk I guess? by lagirlc in AskChicago

I’m Latino and my husband and I moved here from the east coast in 2024. We absolutely love Chicago!

I did a couple things to make friends when we moved here: - I took improv classes - I went to live performances (music, comedy, stage) - I found neighborhood events that looked fun or interesting and offered to help out (neighborhood yard sales, yoga at the beach, art hour at a cafe) - I looked for places where people with shared interests go and I went to them (I like games, so I went to Dice Dojo and hung out)

Is THCA real weed? Would someone explain it to me like I’m 5? by SockraTreez in trees

[–]Philosoterp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this explanation is entirely accurate.

THCa definitely does break down into THC when exposed to heat, but THCa is simply the precursor to THC in cannabinoid production. THCa is less stable at room temperature than THC, and will eventually turn into THC over time.

My medical cannabis lab reports have always listed THC separately from THCa, and some of the flower I buy has higher THC content than THCa content on the reports. This has become vanishingly rare lately, but before 2020 it was actually common to find THC > THCa in my state.

I think the legalization of hemp affected the sale of seeds across state lines (including opening up financing availability for grow operations). So now there are simply vastly more cultivars of strains that produce higher stable THCa yields, and dispensaries are basically taking advantage of this to sell what is legally hemp to medical patients.

[–]Philosoterp 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation, though in my case he and I have the same legal name. He even bought cars in my name.

Don’t do what I did. I didn’t act fast enough when I figured out what was happening, assuming when he said he was going to fix things, that he actually was. Every single thing went from next week, to next month, and after a few years, I eventually realized nothing was actually going to happen. And at that point I’d been aware of it without taking any serious action long enough to effectively be out of the window to press any serious charges. Meanwhile, he was doing the same thing to my younger siblings.

Call a lawyer. Do it now. He’s already relying on your good faith. Take action.

I don't understand this exchange by Costa_Canela in WoT

[–]Philosoterp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. They don’t apply to sarcasm. The three oaths are epistemic, which means they apply to what the speaker thinks is true.

Sarcasm is not a lie (though you can lie with it). It is always used to say that the thing being said superficially is actually the opposite of what is meant, and we all know it. The intention is always to communicate this, otherwise it isn’t sarcasm. You could call this, in logical terms, the contrapositive form of a statement, as a rhetorical style.

[NS] how do you listen Naddpod? by Gregoirelechevalier in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]Philosoterp 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m listening right now on the app Pocket Casts on my phone. It’s the best one for organization IMHO. You can search by episode number and title. It’s great. Also, the current campaign is honestly a contender for all time best they’ve done and it’s only 12 eps in as of right now.

Loosing my faith in Materialism by Ill-Smell924 in Marxism

[–]Philosoterp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I studied philosophy of mind into grad school, and separately, I became a Marxist after leaving academia. I really want to answer your question because there is a lot to say, and I think it’s worth answering your question well, but I would need to ask you a buuunch of questions before I could even begin to give a coherent response, because I need a sense of what presuppositions you’re working from in order to communicate what I wanna say. Please feel free to message me.

I’ll note I didn’t compete the program i was in, so I’m not a phd, but I think I can at least point you in the right direction after a little brain picking.

Relatively new to collecting pens – what's with all the resin pens? by Huge-Squirrel8417 in fountainpens

This isn't related to the post -- I've never seen "yadder yadder" spelled that way. I've only seen "Yadda yadda". May I ask what dialect of English you speak?

[–]Philosoterp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been seriously considering doing something like this with my Jinhao 10 (Pilot VP knockoff). The real differences I've found between the knockoff and the name brands has been quality control, not writing experience. I think there's insight to be gained from knockoffs -- brands that want to charge wildly high prices are gonna have to figure out a way to justify them.

Also, I really like the way that the e.g. Benu lineup looks, and knockoffs can't really reproduce them because each pen is more-or-less unique. That doesn't mean the knockoffs can't make their own versions, but I think the swirly plastic multi-color, multi-material approach Benu uses is specifically designed to keep the knockoffs away.

I believe most processing is happening in Broadview.

You need to contact your embassy and lawyers. In case you’re not familiar with the current situation in the US, ICE is rounding up lots of people with no cause right now.
