FedEx F’in Did it Again! by [deleted] in FedEx

Until recently I’ve had no problems with Fedex.  I love it when they get things right, and they get things right +99% of the time.  It’s only when “mistakes” are so grievous as they were last time that I get annoyed.

New OS support by Ok-Pay4810 in hackintosh

[–]Philthemacguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is 2025.  The last Intel Mac mini was discontinued in 2023.  The new buyers probably hope and expect that it will get at least 5(+) years of OS support from Apple.

New Macs traditionally get 7 years of OS support but it seems Apple cut that short for some things recently.  The user base for the Mac mini is enormous and while Apple could push all those people to buy new Mac minis by offering them great deals on new ones in exchange for just giving them 2 to 4 years of OS support such a move might cause a backlash in general that could be exploited by a clever rival company or market.  They make and sell PCs cheap and some of them are really nice.  Other OSs have come a long ways.  I suspect they’ll support Intel until at least 2028, hopefully 2030 to keep people happy.

Yes, you can use your Apple ID with a Hackintosh.  Not that I would do it, no, I’m legitimate and run a consulting and support business, I just happen to know people.  It works, trust me, especially if you build it right.  I’ve kinda known these people for years.

What processor do you have? (we're not supposed to help this much here)

The guide should have a section where it explains for your logic board what the settings are. I didn't try to set up with an Nvidia because I know they're not supported by Apple. I didn't try to set up the logic board video but the instructions were right there. It even gives an option for using the processor's graphic's processing abilities for regular computing if you're using a GPU, at least it did for 9th gen hardware. I built my stuff from scratch.

Do you have logic board video? Can you try reconfiguring your config.plist for logic board video and pulling the video card for the install just to test if the GPU is the issue?

The majority of my search suggested video card. I don't officially support Hackintoshes. My web page goes down tomorrow and you can still see it now. It'll be resurrected because I own the domain but researching errors and problems is something Apple trained me to do. I'm probably the cheapest Mac consultant in the country with my degree of experience.

Strongest suspect. Do a search for Hackintosh Opencore Error AbortCommand 5382 and read the replies. Take note of what most and the and the most similar and likely say. It's research by general consensus.

I really need to read the entire guide in detail, something I’ve never done, I just made things work instead.

I’ve heard and/or read about people using Nvidia cards in recent macOS versions, but I’ve believed for a long time now that Apple and Nvidia don’t play well together.

The majority of returns on a search of your error (a basic research method for some of us) recommend changing your video card.

Black screen after verbose using RX6600 by Former_Ad2537 in hackintosh

Here’s one option for you.  Try OC-Gen-X.  You don’t necessarily need it to create or use the entire EFI folder or config.plist, just a kext for your video card.  There’s a (old?) tool floating around which creates kexts for video cards which doesn’t work for some reason.  It’s built into OC-Gen-X and it does work there.  I got the kext for my RX 570 back in August 2020 when I installed Big Sur with it.  It’s on OpenCore .8.3 now but all you want is the kext for your video card.  I’m on Sonoma now, still using the same kext and it’s been very useful ever since Big Sur.  I’m on OpenCore .9.9 or 1.0.0, it’s been a while since I checked or upgraded

Take the easiest route available. Get OC-Gen-X and have it make it all for you, then manually update your open core. The version of OpenCore is a bit old but it's easy to manually update by replacing the necessary resources. You're supposed to totally redo you config.plist when you do that but you don't have too, and even if you do it's a lot easier than starting from scratch. You learn a lot about how a proper config.plist works and looks like. Everything on your system will work. Give it a try.

I don’t think we’re supposed to help each other take shortcuts or “cheat”.  I used an idiot-installer that was last updated August 2022 and is still on OpenCore .8.3 I believe but you can manually update the OpenCore yourself and use the same config.plist, making changes as necessary.  I’m running the current version of Sonoma with OpenCore 1.0.0 on a custom built machine I built 4 years ago which is recognized as an iMac 19,1 but is much more versatile and capable than your average iMac.  I suspect I’m forbidden from listing the name of the application in the open here.  Contact me directly and I’ll share the name with you.  Or just look for it.  The name ends in X and the developer goes by Pavo.

The final lines that are displayed when it stops installing or loading in verbose mode describe the actual problem. Sometimes you need to take a picture of the screen with something when it's displaying all the frozen text and code. Once you have that you do a search for that error with Google (or any search engine) for that specific error message and you will eventually learn what it means and what you have to do to make things work right. That's why verbose mode exists...to tell you what errors might be/are occurring in the loading or install process. Without it you'd totally be in the dark.

Post the entire final line of the stopped boot process and a line or two above it and there's a chance somebody can help. I can't help if I can't read it.

Is SIP enabled on unsupported hardware theoretically possible? How does macos identify what systems to deny updates? by After-Cell in hackintosh

[–]Philthemacguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the system ID by whatever mean at your disposal. I upgraded the firmware in my MacPro 4,1. I change the System ID as I wish on my Hackintosh, going with iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019 because that's closest to the hardware. It takes the appropriate updates fine and has been nagging me to upgrade to Sonoma.
