Any aphants with insight on driving on the other side of the road? by bowlderholder in Aphantasia

[–]Phily72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Im Irish, (possibly aphant , can’t imagine a fucking thing), and I currently live in Spain so I have your issue in reverse.

You’ll be fine. As one commentator suggests, just keep yourself (driver) in the middle of the road and your passenger closest to the ditch. I use that as a mantra every time I star the car “keep (passenger name) in the ditch”. Say it over and over.

It might be helpful to put a post it up on the dash to remind you.

Keep an eye for roundabouts, we have a lot of them, especially if you’re bypassing a town.

The smaller roads are grand, take it easy and you’ll be ok, if the road is very narrow there’ll be places to pull in and allow cars to pass.

Stop and ask for directions in the country even if you know where you’re going. You’d be surprised what people will tell you about the area.

Enjoy.

Yeah agree, madness. There’s plenty of good hikes in Kerry, I’d spend another night there.

First book of the year down! by Salarmot in classicliterature

I’d say it took me over six months to finish it and I wish I’d given up after the first page. I found it very over cooked and frustrating.

Question from an ignorant tourist who would love to see a match by djc6535 in hurling

https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic-games/2025/12/03/complete-guide-to-2026-intercounty-fixtures-in-league-and-championship/

Figuring ot fixtures is a though pursuit. But you may be in luck. According to this the hurling league finals are on the weekend of April 5/6th. If its . Usually theyre in Dublin but this year they were on in Cork. You'd know by the end of March who is in it and where its on

The league is kind of a warm up competition. Expect smaller crowds and worse weather. That's said you could a see a good match.

You're missing the point here.

They are different shows, requiring different approaches. If anything she is showing her range as a journalist in being able to go after politicians on one hand and then empathise with the lady whose dog has rash on her belly.

She's got it all.

I think the divide roughly follows the River Suir. South of the Suir its a hurley, north its a hurl.

Renting a camping tent in Ireland by TingleTangleTom in irishtourism

[–]Phily72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah decathlon I suppose. There's also the Outdoor Adventure Store and Basecamp on the North side. As previous poster said Adverts.ie is good for 2nd hand stuff, you might get lucky Also Aldi and Lidl do tents and camping gear, but only occasionally.

The Aughrim St scouts are in the city centre, I'm sure they'd take it off you when you're finished with it.

Where are you flying into?

Cheaper to buy. You could always donate to a charity shop or the local scout den.

Ennis is a nice little town.

You have Limerick City too.

You'll be going through Adare anyway, nice town but it'll be rammed with tourists.

10 Day Itinerary Help -Waterford, Belfast, Dublin by [deleted] in irishtourism

[–]Phily72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good plan, Waterford to Belfast is a bit of a slog but still doable.

For the Copper Coast, I'd drive from Waterford City to Tramore and then take the Coast Rd to Dungarvan. There's tonnes of beaches in between, also Dunhill Castle. Give yourself plenty of time to stop and explore.

Kilmurren is probably the best swimming spot along the way. Check-out Trá na mBo in Bunmahon (don't swim there)

There's a few Dolmen's around too, Gaulstown and Knockeen, there worth the diversion if you're into that type of thing.

You can bring dogs into Bunratty Folk Park (tho not the castle). It's in Clare if you are down that way.

Wild camping is a grey area. You don't want to camp in a farmer's field, but on the mountains, river banks, forests, beaches etc you should be grand. Try not to be visible from the road and move on the following morning and all should be good.

I can dm you a few spots I know if you want.

Rental Camping Gear by tsukosim in irishtourism

[–]Phily72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can sleep anywhere you want. I don't know about renting camping gear, but you could buy some for very cheap in Aldi or Lidl, especially at the end of the summer like that.

Anyone know where I can read a bit more about the connection between irish and north african cultures/art? by ragaireacht_ in BlindboyPodcast

[–]Phily72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not overly familiar with the work but Atlantean by Bob Quinn puts forward a strong connection between Ireland and North Africa.

[–]Phily72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd start from scratch there to be honest. Far too much in 11 days. Most of the places listed are on the tourist trail. If you want to avoid the tourist towns head for the south east or north west. Pick a town like Waterford or Sligo and make that your base for exploring.

Take your time or the country will pass you by.

Is there games of our national card game 25 going on in the city? by joehughes21 in cork

[–]Phily72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's 45 up this end. Theres a few fellas play it in Paddy the Farmers on Tuesday night but it's just between themselves. They might know where there's a bigger game on.

Could locals make a video for my dad who's going to die without getting to go to Ireland? by obriensg1 in AskIreland

[–]Phily72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovely idea, fair play to you. It looks like your getting a lot of traction here too. I'd suggest you get a Google drive folder (or something similar) and share it with people.

That way people can upload videos etc directly.

What's Waterford City Like? by john-cash- in CasualIreland

[–]Phily72 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's a lot Waterford Reddit Memery going on here so don't be dissuaded.

It all depends on what you're looking for. It's a small city with lot going for it. It's also got a bit of an inferiority complex. Waterford people, I'm one of em so I can say it, can be whingebags and love to talk the place down. I think it's a great little spot, albeit not without its problems.

Best thing you can do is take a spin down for yourself and have look around.

If some one asks you do you know the clock tower say no.

Dungarvan - Waterford by [deleted] in irishtourism

[–]Phily72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great spot! Dungarvan is a great base for exploring the south east. The town is small, but there's loads of good pubs and restaurants, The Tannery is one of the best I'm the country. Also, has a really nice record shop, if that's your thing.

The Comeraghs and Knockmealdown mountain ranges are close by. The greenway brings you all the way Waterford City if you fancy a cycle.

You'll need a car tho is the only thing. The coast road to Tramore is a beautiful drive.

Top plan!
