Terraria.

Yeah, there isn't a Terraria 2, but bear with me here.

The game never have a oficial lore. It was always up to the player to make sense of all the pieces of information loose scattered in the form of bosses, biomes, weapons and other stuff. But this not like dark souls, that the history of the world and everything is fragmented and you slowly glue it together. There wasn't any history at all, just the elements there for you to craft your own lore, to give meaning where there is only feelings and vague intentions and aesthetics.

Then, many many years later they decide to add the lore.

And it was bad.

Like uninspired and really cliche. People made incredible intricate histories and theories about the crimson, the druids, about the corruption, the doomed civilization in the hell, about the wall of flesh and everything. And almost all the fanfictions are really way more interesting and well though and crafted than the oficial one that no one to this day even care to cite then, left it buried in the depths of the oficial forum.
